It's crazy how many people played this game and didn't know you can switch the active character on the fly.

You don't even have to hold in L1... unless you mean L2 for the support characters, but yeah, just the dpad and then hold L2 and then dpad again for the character you want to swap in, but this only lasts for the current battle, and resets back after

After putting some hours in, i agree. I love even more that if you already have the items, you can start and end the quest in the same conversation.

@@RedRobinTitan very true, something else i realized that is awesome is ending the battle directly after the finishing hit, then displaying the results on the screen after you exit the battle. Really saves time as well as defeats repetitive Berseria-esque conversations.

@@duncanpackham5330 : The problem is that the more you play, the more locations you have where they can pop up and the number of possible things you might need to do to trigger the next step just skyrockets. There's also the lingering question of 'can I continue this yet and I'm just looking in the wrong place? or can I not do any more yet?' I've always felt like the ideal would be to leave things open to discovery, but give people a solid in-game way to 'reveal' anything they might not find on their own just by working for it somehow.

Yeah the demo really put me off, got overwhelmed straight away. Full game eases you in alot better

@@themarchinggoblin8294 agreed. Playing the main game is a lot better at grasping the game’s battle system as an evolution of Berseria and Zesteria. I honestly forget how Zesreria plays but I remember Berseria, i played it a few months ago. Yeah, demo you get the tutorial prompts and just experiment.

It seems more fleshed out with finer control too for the strat system in comparison to past Tales.

subquests don't provide exp, but they do give a large amount of SP and Gald. You don't even get a reliable method of gald gain until much later into the game

This actually isn’t true, just like the missable owls, there aren’t any. If you check at the fire pit you will see that green exclamation by ones you missed or had no idea about, check it out and thank me later. Guides are really screwing that up

I hope that I can unlock new members early in story. Masked one and gun girl dont look very original. Why every review main them, when there is a shield and pole-stick?. Visuals are fine but I need some non sparcly combos to actualy jujdge how character plays.

I do to, but only because every other game wants in most other series you to play the main character so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Played tales of symphonia (the legendary one) back in the day , then abyss. Just bought this 5 minutes ago , really glad they are moving this franchise forward and from all the reviews/comments it looks like it might be the best one in the series

Just play on hard. It's still pretty easy since the baddies are thankfully less damage spongy in higher difficulties compared to other namco games, but at least you have to dodge sometimes

@@harrisonmakris1376 It was more of a meme about being OP before the 1st boss because you did hella sidequests but yeah I'm on Moderate and the challenge isn't too bad. First lord was rough because I AI wasn't dodging and then I wasn't dodging well either lol, but otherwise I've been able to handle it fine, so I may go up to Hard.

@@mrbastos Hards a lot of fun because it actually does make you pay more attention to the gimmicks of each character. I just got rinwell and trying to figure her out on hard is a lot of fun because she doesn't really make any sense, once you figure out how to combo with her, if there's any art using character on screen she's OP as hell. She just is a straight nuke. I really like how each character seems to have their own specialty so it makes you want to switch to them

I've noticed the exp diminishes after a bit so I'm just killing everything on the map and moving on. Going back only for materials. I'm also playing on hard mode and only the bosses require strategies, can't just overpower them

Any difficulty below Hard I’ve found that you really don’t need to worry about farming outside of materials

@@warrxnt even hard so far I've been matching up with the enemies levelwise. It's honestly good to be slightly below the baddies level just to actually get something out of the battle system. I mean, this one isn't as easy as zesteria, but it's definitely not a hard game. Which is good too because in the past tales games hard just meant damage sponges

@@harrisonmakris1376 exactly it allows you to focus on all aspects of the game

You can alwys go back and grind but you actually dont get stronger by leveling up you get stronger by earning SP(skill points) and unlocking skills in exchange for your SP. The SP numbers you get from enemy mobs are surprisingly low im glad they're kinda fixing the problem of being overpowered than the upcoming boss. FF13-2 is a literal cakewalk i wished the added a hard mode tbh

from what i've heard, it's apparently pretty easy on normal so playing on anything higher than normal would be good. though it might be best to stick with normal then increase it once you get a feel for the difficulty and systems.

At the very least moderate if you don't want it to be too easy, I'm a few hours in on hard and still having no issues.

This outfits is part of the waring states costumes and it bundled together with the premium costumes dlc. This dlc pack can't be bought separately unlike the beach and school dlc.

If you’re talking about the costumes/equipment. In the main menu there’s equipment (armor icon) and costumes (top hat icon). The former effects a character’s stats while the latter only changes the look of a character. All you need to do is equip any armor you like for those stat boosts in the equipment menu. Then head to the costume menu to change a character’s appearance. If theres a costume equipped, hit the remove button. That will leave the character with only their equipment appearance. There’s no need to uninstall any of the bonuses. Hope this helps. :D

@@lunebadru5997 Well for the ultimate edition there are also costumes. I don't really care about that so it's not missing out for me, but if you do care about costumes you might feel like you're missing out. The deluxe edition comes with the preorder bonus costumes and I guess an item and cooking ingredient pack which I don't really see the need for. Certainly not worth the extra $25.

There is, it just separates the attack/combo part from the swapping characters part. Basically during battle each character has a meter that fills up and when it's full you can tell that character to do a special attack that will extend combos, refill some of your arte gauge, and each character has a special effect that's unique to their attack. For example, Kisara stops enemy charges and boosts party defense while Rinwell can stop enemies casting and steal their spells. You can do it with any character whether they're actively in combat or not, the ones who aren't currently active will do their move then jump back out of combat. You can swap characters during combat in the menu, but it just changes who's active without any special attack related to it. Basically it's Berseria's switch blasts but better.

Yeah tales of bersaria is awesome still would go back and replay it

@@ansalem12 in Berseria you could switch characters without an attack involved by holding guard and pressing the appropriate switch direction. In this game you can switch active party members without opening the menu. This has been discovered since the demo came out. Why do you people misinform others without looking stuff up.

@@PSNMirru I wasn't intending to be misleading, I just didn't think it was important to explain every detail of each game's systems just to get across the fact that it has similar systems to Berseria but different in some ways. The things I said are true, I just didn't explain all the intricacies of each game. Maybe I made a bad decision, but I didn't need to look anything up. I'm well aware of how each of the games work. But the question was whether or not there are switch blasts in Arise, and I didn't think writing a detailed tutorial of how combat switching works in each game would be necessary to answer the question.

I didn’t ask you to give an intricate answer I simply stated you were wrong and you can switch on the fly without opening the menu. So what are you getting at? You started breaking down Boost Strikes when all the person wanted to know is if it’s possible to switch on the fly like the switch blast from Berseria

Martial arte; arcane arte

Those artes usually require more than one AG. (The blue rhombus shapes that dictate how many artes you can use in one combo)

@@GcorpCoPrez in this game any arte leads into mystic artes. Except the level 2 arte that requires you to use a 5hit arte combo before initiating it

Late, but answering in case someone reads this and still needs a answer. There's a crossover artifact from Soul calibur that puts all damage to one. Just go into the artifact menu and click it off. Damage back to normal

The problem is actually micro transactions in all forms, and are one of the absolute worst things about the gaming industry these days.

Back in my day, we didn't complain about grinding for 5 hours for one level, because that was our only option. Micro transactions that affect your actual gameplay/stats, etc are one of the single worst things to happen to video games. Ever

Tales of Arise is an independent story. This is a GREAT time to get into the series!

Why would you play on auto mode, unless you're backtracking through an area or farming or something, in which case, does it matter that much unless you're dying constantly? Idk I'm just starting out but I'm not new to RPGs or JRPGs but maybe I'm missing something

@@Zakhar597 it sucks you have to revive the ai nonstop because they are too dumb to react. The developers did terrible programming. You can't play as all 4 characters at the same time. That's why you have to optimize their combat so they'd be effective in battle.

That's a hard question to answer. Arise is slightly more accessible in how it works and the gameplay is faster, and the game heavily promotes using all the characters instead of just the protag through how the mechanics work, but it's still fundamentally the same character based run around and combo things until they die system. I don't know what you didn't like about it. The break system is much simpler in arise and that could be what you didn't like because berseria did rely on that too damn much. Arise is actually pretty good about not over relying on it's gimmicks. That's been a problem with tales for the last like 4 games, but arise is layered in a way where nothing is straight up a mandatory way to play. Like I like it better than berseria and it's just miles better than zesteria, which just was straight ass, but if you fundamentally dont like what the battle system is, then you're still not going to like this. It's definitely smoother and more accessible than berseria, but you can look at it, it's still essentially building on that system

@@Kingsnax12 Arise is a little better. Basically you can mash until things die, unless it's a boss. Arise plays out more like a fighting game where your rewarded for consistent combos with what is essentially a burst damage special move for free. The way character boosts work in arise is literally the exact same as marvel vs Capcom. The difference is it's not a fighting game. You can't cancel anything so mashing just gets you smacked and you cant combo infinitely (kinda, but especially at the beginning) because there is a recovery period at the end of a characters string. The way around that is obviously to use an assist, which fills the gauge so you can use your specials to cover your recovery then repeat til you run out of assists, but certain assists help with specific enemies like flying, shield, charging, magic, so maybe it's better to save them instead. Each character also has a gimmick they get to play with on top of that and generally does well against a specific enemy type, but it's not necessary to switch if you don't want to.. It's actually a really involved system that plays out well, but only on the hard difficulty. On anything less, it's probably kinda wack because you don't need to do any of that

Then you would be doing it wrong 😂😂. I jest. It just seem like most JRPGs release on PS only. I think of Xbox more as a "western" console and the Playstations as more "eastern".

Combat is typical JRPG - they're all like that. Don't forget, these games are mainly for the Japanese market - it's a different culture to the west.
