Also remember that while your photographer might seem expensive, you are not only paying for the pgk/# of shots they give you but also travel, editing, equipment maintenance, etc. There is a lot of behind the scenes that a lot of people don't think about. But after everything gets calculated in, your photog is basically making $8-10 per hour. Also, feed them. Please feed them.

Great advice! I offered my photographer a meal or anything she wanted and she thanked me kindly for the offer. Out of all the events she had done not even one person offered her refreshments or food. Sadly she declined as she wanted to continue to snap pictures and didn't have time. SF

Ehhhh. They should be paid well for their time and probable experience. However, the behind the scenes stuff you're referring to is less than one day of income from shooting a wedding. I subscribed to Photoshop after watching months of videos about editing and then purchased a very high quality printer and used my high megapixel camera on my phone (as all new phones that are name brand have high quality cameras that supersede the quality of slightly old cameras) to take shots...all of it came to less than the near $1,000 many photographers wanted to charge for one day. In my own experience, they take advantage of people having money saved up for a wedding. Last thing, I've photographed many big days for people I know and edited in fake depths of field, smoothed skin, added lens flare, etc...all for free. My point is, I agree they should be paid for their time, but not as much as what I've seen people charging online.

just a little thought, putting a card on the seat is cute, but cannot be the only "warning". my friend just did an unplugged wedding and she had her minister (it was a friend of the family) basically tell the guests that the bride and groom would really appreciate for the guests to turn off their phones and put away their camera to enjoy the ceremony. she said there will be lots of professional photos and let's just enjoy the moment (which is really what it is all about). however, the friend over did it during the reception stating it again before the groom and bride entered. you do want the extra photos during the reception with all the fun photos that the photographer might not catch. but the ceremony without the extra ipads in the air was just....amazing (had to sit through a ceremony earlier that month with ALL equipment in the air..) :)

Never thought about unplugged wedding..but it's true that official photos look much better without million of cell phones! Besides the fact that it's a way to ask people to be focused and present..more than reasonable....best wishes sharrah! Sf

Fantastic idea! It is very distracting for the photographer but also the other guests. Your idea of putting the info on their seats is good. Another idea would be to put it in the invite if you haven't already sent them. SF

We had several of our major photos ruined because of an amateur photographer friend with a bright flash. I wish I'd had an unplugged ceremony! The chair idea is great because there's no way anyone is missing the request.

Personally at the weddings I go to nobody seems to take they're phones out :) however at my cousins wedding they also gave us a link to a website with all the pictures taken that day, which was really nice

Sharrah give some examples of how you would word the card on the seat for the guests. I think it is a great idea, but need help with the wording. my daughter is getting married in November.

You could say that the professional photographer will be working hard on beautiful shots that will be shared with the guests. Mention that you want them to be present and keep their phones tucked away until cocktail hour
