Im a charlotte fan but thats true rebuilding for 20yrs hahahahaha. But hornets is better that Kings. To be honest. Atleast hornets last playoffs is 2016. How about the kings
Ya never know if a player will blossom or crumble thats the beauty of any professional sport tbh its a gamble sometimes.. at the time, Knight was definitely more established and a safer bet at the time so you can’t blame them, but their hindsight was definitely pooooooooopy
As a Pistons fan I will kinda defend Jennings on the Pistons because after the Pistons cut Josh Smith, Jennings had the best 9 game stretch of his career resulting in a huge Pistons winning streak until he tore his achilles in I believe the last game of that streak. Idk how much differently it would’ve gone but it felt like he was breaking out during that streak into a solid PG
Too many teams do the same mistake. They start from the bottom eventually draft a good player and then get stuck in mediocrity because they cant build around him( they are not bad enough to be at the bottom, and not good enough to be contender), the player leaves in free agency because he is fed up and the club is back at the beggining. Instead of doing that they should build around that player for few years and then at the peak of his value trade him for assets, start the rebuilding again, sooner or later find another good player and then have both the assets from previous trade and the good player that wont leave because they are stuck in the middle. Its literally that simple. But the problem is NBA is business and owners are greedy they want ticket sales and they are not willing to look into the future. Team like Charlotte is a perfect example. They started from absoulte 0 in 2010 they started floating around playoff spot with Kemba in later years, and instead of trading him for assets and rebuilding with those assets they go full delusional mode and then lose him for nothing and have to start all over wasting 10 years in the process.
And also, besides the Knicks and Bulls, they are from small market teams. Those kind of teams are usually, not very appealing for top tier free agents. If LeBron wasn't from Cleveland and felt like he had to bring a title, the Cavs would be on this video for sure, because apart from going back home there's 0 chances a small market team that struggles to make the playoffs lands a superstar.
@@Mr.Sax. You have the Knicks struggling forever and team like San Antonio in the playoffs for last 20 years. And San Antonio is a small market team.Times have changed. Primarily nobody wants to join those teams because they are bad. Not because they are small market.
I would include the Cavs rebuild around Le Bron James after drafting him. While there may be those who argue that they got to the Finals and had a lot of playoff success along the way, most experts agree that this was due to the brilliance of Bron and that if he had better players surrounding him, he would have achieved more success. It seems he agreed with this assessment and left for Miami when his contract was up. But why would I include this rebuild if it achieved so much success? Because anytime the player you built around WANTS to leave, you know management screwed up.
you are spot on my man, another one could be the Magic, while they were great when Howard was there they couldn't get him a whole lot of help, they haven't been good since he's played there
Though part of it is LeBron's fault for strong arming the Cavs into resigning Tristan Thompson and Jr to bloated contracts that ultimately crippled them after 2017.
That is why I’m really sad to see the Lakers today. Because after LeBron it will be really painful to watch after they traded all their assets and future rd picks.
Uncle "Spliffy"! Loved Cliff on the 2001 to 2003 Pistons! Especially that 2001-02 Pistons team; It was their breakout year of sorts and it's a miracle they won 50 and made to the East Semis (even when the east was awful) the starting line up was: 5 - Ben Wallace 4 - Uncle Cliff 3 - Michael Frickin Curry 2 - Jerry Stackhouse 1 - Chucky Atkins. That line up won 50 with Corliss Williamson as 6th man of the year off the bench and the absolutely beloved Jon Barry contributing big minutes too. That team, before Rip, Tay, Chauncey and Sheed still holds a special place in my heart. They were the underdogs of underdogs. And Uncle Spliff always was a steady force.
@@YoloTB Clifford Robinson! I'm assuming you're a younger fan as his career spanned 1990-2005 and his only all star year was in 93 or 94 I think. He had his most profile during the Clyde Drexler led Blazers. Actually if you look up the "Jordan Shrug" from the '92 Finals it is Cliff on the left side of the frame on Michael's right. He was also one of the only players to wear a headband back then before it became very popular in the early 2000s. He also made an NBA all defensive team in 2002 while on the Pistons. He was also ahead of his time in term of his range. He was 6'10" but took and hit threes quite often. He doesn't get near the credit he deserves as being one of the precursors to the Rasheed Wallace types with that range. Uncle Cliff will never be forgotten by us Pistons fans for helping getting us out of the cellar and starting something special in the early 2000s.
@@saylessnocapx7781 sad to see, kind of a good idea for a small 'what if' video on if he didn't get hurt, I'll look into that and may make something on it
Dreamers chasing dreams 101 hard for a super quick small guy to hang in the league if he loses even a little bit of quickness. like IT and johnny Flynn
12:00 No they dont A team that has been trash for years making bad free agent and draft decisions doesn't deserve to magically get kd kyrie and zion all of a sudden A team lile the nets got out of a terrible situation making the playoffs meaning that deserved to get star talent the knicks just tild themselves well its ny lets just hope a star wants to play on the knicks instead of the nets
And they decided to pick as coach Tom Thibodeau, which happens to be recently known for strugglin to develop young talent and not managing the personalities of his stars. He's also very good as GM. I wonder how long will it take before he demands Deng and Rose to be sign.
2013 -2019 Lakers also should be top of the list. Ingram, Ball, Randle, Russell, Nance Jr., Clarkson... unlike Wolves and Kings, Lakers had good signings in Caldwell Pope, Rondo, Lou Williams, Lebron and surprise Kuzma development, but all just nothing.
I feel bad for kevin love man... The guy would be one of the top power forwads had minnesota seen him like a superstar(which he was). Even their GM didn't look at him like that. A few winning seasons was all he needed, i remember when he got drafted I was rooting for him.
He stayed in Cleveland too, I always felt bad for him because he was the one that got stuck with the mess & continued to waste away. They got robbed out the playoffs this year unfortunately.
The Kings waste everybody prime . This team has been terrible for a longtime . They haven't been good since Webber and biddy and Divac and Peja Stojaković
I think this started out as a video about rebuilds, but the segment on the Kings seemed really out-of-place. The point you made was simply that a superstar (DeMarcus Cousins) wasted away his prime on a bad team. There was no discussion about the Kings failures to rebuild after trading him.
As a Raptors fan, I still think that 4 bounces changed their fate. I feel like they could have won in OT, and taken the Bucks (not sure about the finals, injuries or not). That being said...it never happened, and they just couldn't recover.
The process is good but it could have been way better the sixers could have had a starting lineup of Simmons Tobias Harris Jason Tatum Kristaps Porzingis Joel Embiid
Knicks have been rebuilding since most of us aren't even born yet and Andy is still hopeful that they would improve in this lifetime. That's like at least 2 generations of wasted ticket sales.
A successful rebuild requires management whose willing to give youngsters a fair chance, no matter if they were the first pick, last pick, or Un drafted. Look at the Bucks as an example. Kris middle was a second round pick, but has become one of the Bucks most important pieces. Malcolm Brogdon is no longer on the Bucks, but was drafted in the second round and was ROOKIE OF THE YEAR. Same goes with the Raptors and many other successful teams.
I remember seeing Josh Smith in Brooklyn one night when he played for the Pistons. On that night, he played for against the Nets. During that night, he was chucking up shots and missing. I said to myself they're going to get rid of him. He was visibly upset. And the next day, they did get rid of him.
@@fury_021, it's not his expectations as always that results to failed decisions. It's his the decision itself. Well imagine drafting Kwame and a bunch of nobodys in Charlotte. He might even win a championship had not he used that 1st pick overall to retool the Wizards roster and compete against the Spurs and Lakers.
@@fury_021, yeah indeed. But he's the owner. Maybe someday he will draft a future superstar. However, I might be surprised if Jordan will draft Bronny 3-4 years from now (assuming Charlotte will still be a horrible team in the next coming years).
@@fury_021, that's one of the "what if". If Jordan drafted Bronny for the Hornets, then LeBron might go there to play at least a season then maybe go back to Cleveland or Los Angeles to finally retire. But it's the future, it is still uncertain as of date yet LeBron and Bronny playing for Michael Jordan will definitely be a very interesting thing to happen.
I thought you were going to mention 8 different teams of the Knicks :-p Great video! Maybe it would have been interesting to go back in time even further but that's a lot more research and "bad/average" players of former eras may not be known by most of us so it would maybe be less interesting too. The Bulls Chandler + Curry centers and the Wolves missing on their guard picks and staying bad forever were the first think that came to mind when I read the title, I think I would have put the Bulls rebuild ahead of the Suns one, albeit Phoenix remained bad for longer.
I wanna flag something: Brandon Jennings started kicking ass when Smith was waived. ...then he got an achilles injury, right when the Pistons were just recovering from the slump with J Smoove.
Terry Rozier was balling for Hornets and they look good and have a young core. Julius Randle is tearing up New York right now. Two teams off the list :)
Tbh there has not been a team like that. But I suggest that maybe the next video you should do andy are teams that were supposed to rebuild that season but ended up making the playoffs.
The Celtics nearly fit your criteria. Traded away Pierce, Garnett and Terry in the '14 season, playoffs the next year. Same with Detroit lost Grant Hill in '01 and missed the playoffs, '02 went to the second round
This comment hasn’t aged well. Who’s the joke now. I’ll make it easy. You are!!! I swear to god if your cheering right now we don’t want you nor need you. So go cheer for one of the 8 teams on this list because you ain’t shit.
Mqrlen_ I didn’t say it was success, I was just pointing out that they were not rebuilding during that year, so they haven’t been rebuilding since the beginning of the century
The 13-14 Suns had a 3 headed PG rotation that ultimately blew up in their face. Dragic was gone, IT flourished in Boston, and Bledsoe became a team cancer. Things are looking up now for the suns however. The Brooklyn Nets. How to throw away your future 101. Giving up 3 first round picks for a trio of past there prime players. Ouch.
no doubt, Simmons has got to go in my opinion, and even if they get rid of him they don't have much help Joel is a star no doubt, but he can't win it all by himself
Anthony agree, they should already be here cause “the process.” It took way to long and was based on tanking for picks every year just hoping they’d get lucky. Finally they did and now they can’t even manage that!
Hi andy! Can you make something about what happened to Larry Sanders? I think this is a good time talking about him.. a guy with so much potential to be one of the best rim protectors but vanished due to depression.. please see my comment.. i notice that you may be running out of content and some are a bit redundant in my opinion.. maybe a story of larry sanders may spice up your content.. i dont know if you featured him when he played in the cavs but this time when players are having mental health issues in the bubble, i think larry sanders topic can open up something about depression.. I always watch your videos 🙂👍👍👍
At least the Knicks are back in the Playoffs having make it twice now in 2021 and now 2023 and currently playing their biggest nemesis Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals series.
Mqrlen_ I’ll get you banned from RU-vid for calling me soft when I’m not, and I’ll get you banned from RU-vid for saying I have anger issues when I don’t.
It is sad about the Knicks and Charlotte... I was fan of Knicks in the Melo era. Where they made playoffs and was fun to watch. But now it is so sad....
Why are hornets on this list and not the pelicans. You said the Pelicans had good years with AD but The hornets also had good years with Kemba. We made the playoffs twice just like the Pels.
@@LifeCoachKenn but the main goal of all the teams in the nba is to win it all. You could say the suns made a progress but the knicks had been a dumpster fire for more than a decade so surely they wont be happy on just making a playoff.
@@procopiomacaspac3087 not necessarily true. I don't think that's the Hornets' goal. Lol. But even if it were, horribly wrong still isn't correct. Again, the title isn't failed but HORRIBLY WRONG. Also, when you're rebuilding, it takes years. NY and Suns are still in the process. So this isn't decided yet.
@@LifeCoachKenn not when you have a good front office and owner. It will only take a light rebuild and still play in the playoffs. There are teams with a very good ownership and management. But unfortunately the knicks has been stuck with mediocrity and bad management. Only now theyre rebuilding and its making progress, but throughout the years theyve been stuck with a very bad front office.
After the Bucks traded Brandon Jennings in 2013 I remember looking at the new Milwaukee roster saying they had potential to make a solid playoff run and boy was I off. R.I.P. Uncle Cliff.
quoting: "I'm hoping Knicks will be great again... at some point in my lifetime!" .. jeez; we're talking decades here. and still so little hope. sad but true.
