Man that explanation you gave at 3:16 was amazing. I never realized simply walking tenths made it sound so "true" so to speak. And the way you added in the right hand was awesome
This video was ridiculously helpful, thank you! Just found your content, love these broken down tips, great little chunks to digest and work on bit by bit. Consider me sold/subscribed!
I'm struggling to play jazz and this video was really helpful. I always wanted to learn how to play stride, you are really clear in your explanations. Thank you!
Hey Noah! Isn't it always the very simple devices that are overlooked??? That one little technique of using tenths in the left hand produced a quantum leap in my understanding of how to produce that seasoned sound of a stride player. It's another excellent video. Thanks Will
0:00-0:18 Tasty as fuck dude, that's the sound I want to get in my ballad and standards playing. One of my long term goals is to be able to seamlessly transition between the different styles of jazz piano throughout a performance. Eg. going from rubato Bill Evans kinda intro to Erroll Garner style head then bebop then stride at the end of solo.
Awesome stuff, very cocktailish! Love it, red garland used to move the octaves always with a perfect 5th in the middle, and thinking only of the melody on the outside notes, it also sounds nice! It’s a different approach to the diatonic movement you do in the video :)
David Flynn Hi David- yes, they are covered within the context of the exercises. Each exercises focuses on one or more challenges, many of which are shown in this video! In other words, they’re not these exact tips one by one- rather, these tips are factored into the exercises.
I went to your courses. not sure if your courses require reading music. As I don't read music and refusing do so. are your courses fit me? I am good at number system.
