you dont need crumpled news paper ( though I understand the air trappig insulation effect) .. newspapper sections .. at least 8 pages thick between a layer or 2 ( especially the last layer where cold air come through the zipper area 0 .. this has helpped me numerous times .. back when I had a sport bike and only a small area under my seat for storage ..

The weather in Sweden can be very cold in the winter so we have had to learn the tricks. In addition, our equipment must be simple and work even without electric heat, so layer upon layer must work. Can only add a couple of things. It is important to stay dry. When driving hard, you need to ventilate to avoid sweating. Never use cotton wool close to the body. If you are on longer trips, bring a change of clothes, especially socks and undershirts. @Steve00 Alt At least in the province of Quebec it was until recently where certified winter tires were made available. The reason it wasn't allowed is all vehicles required certified winter tires between December 1st and March 15th. Now that some certified winter tires are made for motorcycles, it would be possible to ride, but during winter months, it would take studded tires most of the time as there's snow and ice, not to mention the temperatures that can drop to -40C(which is also -40F)...:) If you are caught riding within those dates, without winter tires, you get a fine, and they could even have your vehicle towed.
Yeah, I have a heated shirt with a battery, maybe options, the ones with wires are a bit cumbersome for my taste, and the ones with batteries rarely last more than 3-4 hours.
In eastern Canada it was until lately, because there's a law requiring winter tires on all vehicles between December 15 and March 15 and before there simply wasn't any certified motorcycle winter tires (now there's 1 or 2 options) :) Anyways, when its -30C its probably not the best mode of transportation, that's when snowmobiles come into play hehe
As a matter of fact. Quebec requires winter tires for all vehicles including motorcycle s in that period of winter months. Ontario does not. However. In Windsor where I live, I get funny looks from cops when I ride during winter. Not a lot of winter riding in these parts
