Hello ! That are very good 8 ideas ! They are nice choice ! Your tips are very understandable and to work for Japanese trip! And, your necklace and dress are so cute ! Please make great plan of your next Japanese trip !
Thank you! I don't know when I'll be able to go to Japan next, but I was thinking of maybe staying on the Izu Peninsula. It looks like there are lots of beautiful places to go!
@@cakeswithfaces Thank you for comment back. Izu Peninsula is very beautiful place. it's warm than Tokyo. So, cherry blossoms open early than Tokyo. Izu Peninsula have sea and mountain. That contrast is so beautiful ! I recommend it. Please have fun ! And, please come to Japan again .
The best on the list is Nikko, imo, especially in winter when the local towns and surrounding areas are covered in snow. The frozen waterfalls are the highlight for me. Hiking around Mitakesan is also recommended.
I visited Mount Takao in November of last year. It was gorgeous. The trees were a beautiful Autumn colour and the view of Mount Fuji once you reach the summit is well worth the exercise. And don't be scared of the chair lifts. Ok, be a little scared. But that's what makes them fun to ride. I can't wait to visit it again in a couple of weeks! It was one of the highlights of my trip.
Yay for the chair lifts, they're fun! :-) I'd heard it's beautiful in autumn - I was there in October, too early for the autumn leaves, but I still loved it too!
Mt Takkao is my number 1 nature location to go to in Japan! Especially in the Autumn! I saw SharlaInJapan's video on it years ago and actually your channel as well to see it during a different season!
There is a train from Tokyo (Shinjuku I believe it was) on weekend mornings, that goes all the way to Okutama Station without having to change train along the way. Same on the way back in the afternoon. Nice video :)
I did a day trip to Yokohama my first trip to japan, and it was so good i stayed for a week on my next trip. there's a lot of museums and historical things around (many with tourist discounts also).
Wow, did you find it a good place to stay? I liked the feel of the city - it felt a lot more like somewhere you might want to live than in Tokyo where it's so hectic!
Great video and lots of useful information. I went on a day trip to Mount Takao but it was raining and cloudy when I got to the top so I didn't see much. Still a great day out though.
My day trips outside of Tokyo were in Yokohama and Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort. I love Yokohama! I will definitely check out the other day trips in this video when I return to Tokyo.
There's so much to do in Yokohama! And a totally different vibe to Tokyo, even though it's so close. It's great that you can get to so many interesting places easily on day trips, even if you're staying in Tokyo for your whole trip!
If all goes according to plan, I'll be going to Japan next year with family. It'll be my first time and their second so hopefully some of these ideas will be new to them. Your videos get me very excited in anticipating the trip! Thank you for all the tips 😁
Fantastic! Day trips are a good way to see more new things on your second (or third or fourth!) trip so there should be something you can all enjoy! :-) Happy Japlanning!
Day trips are a great for repeat visits to Japan - I always like doing my "best of" from previous trips, but the new places I go to are always the highlights.
I don't think they could really close the trails as it's open to the public - there's no ticket to get in or anything. (Maybe they could close the chair lift/cable car, although I couldn't say if they're open all year round or not). I was surprised how it wasn't that cold in February (compared to the UK) so you'd soon get your body heat up with the hiking!
The Nippara Limestone Caves are an awesome visit as well and only a couple hours outside Tokyo. Also if you love aquariums, the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is a must go.
If you don't have quite as much time, on the way to Okutama on the Ome Line, you could get off at Mitake and take a 2km walk down the river to Sawae, where there's a sake brewery. Beautiful setting, beautiful brewery: Sawanoi Ozawa. The tasting room has sakes from 200-500yen and you get to keep a cup for every sake you drink. I walked out with five, and was quite happy in every regard. Sleepy on the train home, though...
trip 1: i wasn't on takao but oyama there's a temple part way up and a shrine on the top. walked up to the top but you can take a lift part way up to the temple(shrine is not open all days of the week). oyama is sacred so be mindful that you shouldn't run while on it. it's recommendable to go on one of the mountains.
I recently discovered your channel and I have to say I love it so much. Great content, very INFORMATIVE (not like other channels explaining their life...) and funny. I can not believe you do not have more subscribers. Anyway, please, keep doing content like this :)
Aww thanks so much, that's very kind of you! I watch a lot of Japan videos too, and I wanted my videos to be useful but interesting! :-) Great to know you appreciate it, thank you!! :-)
Gala Yuzawa resort is a great place for people who are interested in a day trip to the snow that’s close to Tokyo. It’s only about 70 minutes from Ueno station. Also, about Kawagoe, people should go on the weekends, I went there on the week days to avoid large crowds but most of the places were closed.
If you have chance , go to Chichibu night festival held in December and you will get the unforgettable memory of entire your life. Look up with Chichibu Night festival or Chichibu yomatsuri
Oh, Amy, you MUST go to Nikko next time. So worth it! It was my favourite spot during our last trip. All the giant cedars in the area are absolutely gorgeous (not to mention, the temples of course). Most of the places you mention are already part of our planned itinerary but, I was iffy on Takao. I think you've convinced me! I'm going to try to wedge it into the schedule. Only 2 weeks to go before we leave!
Have you ever visited around the Japan Alps area, Amy? My absolute favourite daytrip in Japan was Kamikochi from Matsumoto. It's absolutely beautiful, especially in Autumn, and pretty straightforward to get to. I'd highly recommend adding it to your long list of places to visit if you've never been! I also did a half day trip to Daio Wasabi farm from Matsumoto and ate lots of wasabi oyaki (couldn't try the ice cream because I'm vegan ...) and I'd definitely recommend visiting one for something a little bit different. For around Tokyo, it's gotta be Enoshima though. Definitely considering Mt Takao next time!
Both of those are good choices for day trips! :-) No, I haven't been to the Japanese alps - I'd love to go though! And the wasabi farm - I've heard of it when I've been trip planning before! I'd love to go somewhere that has wasabi-everything! There's one place that grows fresh wasabi in the UK, and it's so much more fragrant and delicate than what you get in tubes.
I was watching trips reminiscing of my trip last summer and was just thinking about day trips out to Tokyo when I saw this video. I actually wanted to go to Mt Takao but I didn’t get chance to do half the things I wanted haha! So I went on a day trip to Fuji Five Lakes and that was definitely my highlight, along with the Imperial Palace and Akihabara. I think I preferred this as much as I would love to hike it, as I saw a little shrine myself that was so mystical to me and Lake Kawaguchi and that community was so far removed from Tokyo with its little one car streets and wooden houses and the views of Fuji were outstanding. You can book an independent trip to Fuji Five Lakes from Tokyo bus station but you do still have to buy a return ticket with a certain time to return, say 4pm. That took me about 2 hours and I almost didnt make it because I started exploring the area, found the old road to Kamakura (note that Kamakura isn’t near Fuji five lakes, it would take days walking that road, it’s just the old road there) and sort of got lost about an hour before my bus left!
Sounds like an adventure! :-) I've only been on an organised coach trip to that area, but I'd love to go back one day and explore with more freedom. I think you'd enjoy Mount Takao - it also feels very removed from Tokyo - you're surrounded by nature. There's always something for the list for next time! :-)
@@cakeswithfaces Ain't that the truth! I mean there's 101 things I missed doing in Tokyo alone, never mind the outlying areas and then on to exploring Kyoto, Osaka, Sapporo, Hiroshima, Okinawa etc. Maybe I just need to find a job there and move haha!
I went to the tomb of Christ in Shingo, Aomori prefecture as a day trip from Tokyo. A bit far for a daytrip (had to take a shinkansen from Ueno all the way to Hachinohe), but I made it and it was definitely a memorable experience.
@@cakeswithfaces Its so cool that you have always so pretty colorful hair! I have very short hair, so I really can't have a few different colors at the same time... Without looking like a weirdo 😂 so I decided to have pink or pastel pink hair 😊
The only day trip I've done was to Kamakura and it was one of my favourite days in Japan. I'm planning for Nikko, Mt Takao, North Fuji area and somewhere North West of Tokyo if I have time. Still deciding if we can make it a 3 week holiday instead of 2.
I'd love to visit Nikko too - I've heard a lot of good things about it from other people here in the comments! :-) You won't run out of things to do however long you can stay!
@@pekaboo93 Haha I know that feeling! :-) Often we'll walk 10 miles a day and be exhausted! But it's important to remember the point is to have a good time, not see/do EVERYTHING! :-)
um,... ahem,... Chiba, especially Chiba Park in June for the lotus blossoms. There will be few to zero foreign tourists (^_^) ... Chiba Zoo can be reached riding the (actually kind if fun monorail), the animals there seem to be generally happy (unlike in Ueno). The added benefit is English signs and language are going to be minimal,...
Always good to get away from crowds of tourists (even though that's hypocritical as I'm one of them...). I enjoy looking out for the hanging trains in Chiba from the Narita Express!
@@cakeswithfaces it helps if you enjoy boring suburbs and speaking nothing but Japanese (^_^) ... to be fair, Chiba station was renovated a few years ago and it's actually nice
Thank you very much always for tips for foreign tourists to avoid nonsenses. How about Chichibu? Especially, in December , Chichibu has one of the three greatest night festival in Japan.
I'd like to go back there and explore some more! I've only been as a stopover on the Mount Fuji coach trip, but you must be able to see a lot more when you're travelling independently. Thanks for the recommendation! :-)
Thanks! Japan Guide's a really useful website for finding how to get to places. There's an "Access" section towards the bottom of the page: www.japan-guide.com/e/e6918.html You can check train times on Hyperdia (in English) - the station you need is Fujikyu Highland www.hyperdia.com/ Hope that helps! :-)
There are some great ideas for day trips in this video. I've done the majority of them but hiking on the Otama Trail is something I might consider doing the next time I'm in Japan. There's just one thing bothering me about doing these kind of hikes in the middle of the countryside and that is perhaps coming across a bear. That would worry me a little bit and I'm not sure how effective a bell is to warn them off?
That is a nerve-wracking prospect for sure! Go North Japan has a video about it with his tips - he does a lot of hiking in wild areas of Tohoku: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mi9eUjhDc_0.html
did that bus trip to the Kegon waterfalls go on the Iroha slope? im planning a return trip to Japan for 2020 and would love to see the Iroha slope again and spend a few minutes in certain areas without being pulled along by the tour guides. i know Kegon waterfall is a long ride but its the Iroha slope which gets my attention more and im trying to find out if the bus takes the mountain road or not. i saw the Kegon waterfalls from the top station, no time to head t the base with the guided tour group.
I hadn't heard of the Iroha Slope before, thank you! Just looked it up, it looks interesting!! I know how you feel about being able to take your own time instead of travelling with a group. I don't know too much about the bus, but it looks like it might go on the slope, if you look at the blue line and the two maps here: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3812.html The slope looks quite close to the waterfall, although I'm not sure of the scale!
It depends which you're interested in. Some trains leave from Shinjuku, and some leave from Ikebukuro or other stations. If it's on the bullet train, Tokyo Station area is best. Overall, I'd recommend Shinjuku, because it's so well connected. If you need to get over to the other side of the city, you can use the JR Chuo / Sobu Line (quicker than the metro).
Great video Amy! 😊 Your Japlanning tips are so helpful. We went to Nikko as a day trip from Tokyo a few years ago. It was very busy, but worth it. You can get special train passes that go from Ueno Station, and it only takes about an hour. We went to Fujikawaguchiko too, but we stayed there a few days. We definitely want to check out Kamakura, that bamboo grove and Yokohama.
Warm daytime but at night a little chilling. But I am going to go there for marine sports in the end of October. But this year unusual prolonged summer still goes on. It is unbelievable that it still hits 30℃ daytime in October now and summery cicadas still are crying on trees. To fully enjoy Kamakura and Enoshima, I recommend you to watch this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NtTeSQFce2A.html
When I was there in the first half of October, it was like summertime in the UK, really warm and t-shirt weather. It cools off during the month but it should still be warm at the end of October - take hoodies and jackets too though! And you'll see so much cute Halloween stuff!! :-)
It's amazing how far you can get on the shinkansen so easily! I was thinking about including Miyajima as it's so quick to get to Sendai on the bullet train (video coming up about it!).
Hi Amy. .what about Hakone? It seems very close to Tokyo for me 🤔🤔 are you guys visiting Tokyo this month? I'll be there around the 20th so it could be an honnor to meet you...cheers!
@@ForUploadin yes I know but the last time I visited Japan I missed it so this time I'll go there (just to mark it in my to-do list of touristy places to visit)
It’s OK if you want to visit there, but if you want to enjoy better onsen. I recommend other options. In Japan, every onsen lover one’ own favorite onsen, having favorite ‘secret onsen’ that is hardly known to many people.
@@ForUploadin I'll visit Imabari in Ehime prefecture and I see that there is an onsen so good that I have to try...also the famous Dogo onsen in Matsuyama so I hope those don't disappoint me :0/
That sounds good, I want to do bicycle tour over the islands from Onomichi to Imabari. I have never been to Ehime( only been to Kagawa and Tokushima in Shikoku) So I can’t say anything about Matsuyama. But I would love to visit Matsuyama.
