Thanks for showing, I love Shinsekai so much ❤ the kushikatsu places usually have a lot of vegetable options. In 2019 we went to one that even had deep-fried cheesecake for dessert 😋
Me and my wife visited Osaka in early May. We walked from Dotonbori to Tsutenkaku Tower where we visited the observation deck around noon. The view over Osaka is great all around the tower. We saw Billken, the god of "what things ought to be", there were even a statue of him in the tower. Thank you for your videos, always filled with useful information. This one brought back found memories from our stay in Osaka 🙂Greetings from Norway.
Glad it brought back happy memories! Walking around the cities is always great - you never know what you'll see, and it can be so interesting just seeing everyday streets, not just tourist hotspots.
Super useful thanks! One thing I don't understand about buying tickets on SmartEx: you first put in your origin and destination. But then when it shows the list of departure times, underneath the time it will show your origin but then a bunch of different destinations. For example we bought Tokyo to Kyoto, but the time slot we picked had Tokyo-->Shin-Osaka underneath. After paying it does show Tokyo to Kyoto...what's with that? I couldn't find any information explaining the help pages. Thanks!
I don't have SmartEX open now to check, but it sounds like it could be showing the train's final destination? Eg the train stops in Kyoto, but then goes on to Osaka. That would also help you identify which train to take at the station, as it'll display the final destination on signs, etc.
May i ask when this was filmed? Just being curios about you two wearing a facemask in Shinsekai area. I know it's common in japan to wear a facemask in specific situations (like Flu season or when feeling sick etc.), so is it just a precaution of you two or are there still areas where a mask is "mandatory"? I visited Japan in Oct. 2022 and had a mask on 24/7, but now almost 2 years have passed, so I'm just curious :)
It's from my 2023 trip (even though I have new videos from this year, there are still a few 2023 videos I hadn't edited yet!). :-) Don't worry, this year it was fine to not wear a mask at all if you don't want to. I took mine but didn't wear it. Some people were wearing masks (similar to before 2020) but I'd say the majority weren't.
When I hear the word “Kabukicho”, I automatically assume that there are dodgy areas and lower quality(cough)(cough)things there. This is my Japanese perspective. I might be biased.
@@melgordon2490 I've only heard that Shinksekai is a "bad area". Crime levels in Japan are very low, and pickpocketing, etc, isn't generally a problem. I haven't heard anything about Dotonbori, but it's such a busy, crowded area, especially in the evening that I'd keep an eye on your bag and pockets just in case (like you would anywhere in a city) as it'd be very easy to pickpocket there. There are lots of foreign tourists who may not be as honest as Japanese people are (generalisation obv!).
Direct flight from Bangalore, India to Japan is little expensive actually. So I had to catch a connecting flight in Malaysia. And it took me 15 hours to reach Japan. Delhi has a direct flight that’s cheap though. Direct flight from most Indian cities takes around 8 hours. But direct flights from Bangalore and Mumbai are slightly expensive.
It's tricky isn't it, when flights are so much more expensive now than they used to be. Indirect flights often cost less, but are more tiring than flying direct.
@@cakeswithfaces yeah. it sure is. But considering the fact that India is much closer to Japan compared to the UK. I mean it’s on the same continent. Indirect flight from India takes same amount of time as a direct flight from UK to Japan. Ngl. But even 8 hour flight time which direct flights take from India is also long tbh.
Thank you very much for this video, I went to the area early morning (7am) before anything was open and just kinda explored. Gonna go when open this trip, and finally going for cherry blossom season next year and see the World Expo in Osaka :D I can't wait
@@cakeswithfaces It was so empty and quiet, was very nice to be able to just look and wander without the stress of a crowd to take the area in. I walked to Shitenno-ji following, little did I know it was during one of their flea market days, that was a treat.
You'll love it! Not sure if you have it already but here's my list of restaurants with veggie options, that you can both enjoy :-) cakeswithfaces.co.uk/japan/vegetarian-restaurants-in-japan/
@@melgordon2490 It's tricky to say which I prefer when they both have a slightly different feel. I think it's worth going to both if you have time - but if you only have time for one, Dotonbori is the "main" area of Osaka to feel the exciting atmosphere in the evening and see the famous Glico sign and canal.
Does anyone know what card she is talking about at 14:23? I rewatched that sentence 10 times and i'm still so confused what that person did wrong to have to re-buy their tickets.
The credit/debit card used to purchase the tickets online didn't have the card details (card number, expiry date, etc) printed on the card. Most credit/debit cards have the card number, and expiry date printed on them. However, some newer cards from certain banks don't have the card number, etc on the physical card (for security - they're available in an app instead). That meant the person at the desk in Japan couldn't check that the card number was the same as the one used to buy the tickets online. Hope that makes sense! :-)
Here it is: www.teamlab.art/e/planets/ It's very useful for checking ticket availability, if you start going through the booking process, to see which times are still available.
Hi Amy, thanks heaps for this video. One of your many gems, which I am now discovering within your website. I have followed your advice and have wrote to Manager Hachisuka of Morizuya and booked and confirmed two nights this coming October, first with meals, second without meals. My wife and I are looking forward to The Dinner and will arrive hungry as you suggest! Manager Hachisuka's replies in English to my emails were easy to understand.
You’re like me very courteous to other travelers behind & very careful when reclining, unlike the “gentleman” in front of me when we traveled to Japan, he reclined his seat fully before the seatbelt sign was off & stayed there for the whole flight, didn’t even sit up at meal times 😡
Ah nooo, that's so annoying when that happens, isn't it! I'm always happy when there are the shell-back seats that slide forwards to recline instead - so much more considerate for the person behind you.
Went to Fukuoka on my first trip and loved it. I still remember a random lady saying 'welcome to Japan' to my friend and I while we were walking on the streets. BTW, it seems like Japan is heavily advertising tourism to Brits..
I'm glad you got to see more of Japan outside the Golden Route on your first trip! :-) They said at the seminar that there are more visitors to Fukuoka from the UK than from any other European country.
Thank You for sharing this video. I like too go too Kanazawa in oktober this year from Kyoto. I will like too making a day trip from in the early leaving from Kyoto and in the evening going back to Kyoto. Is it possible to rent a bike over there in Kanazawa so that can cycling from the area too area in Kanazawa??
Kanazawa has a public bike rental scheme, with ports where you can pick up and return bikes all around the city: www.kanazawastation.com/machi-nori-bicycle-rental-in-kanazawa/
I went to see this exhibition last weekend and I really enjoyed it. If you have not already you should check out blue sky bakery they do Japanese baked goods and they are amazing. I always go when I come to London.
