Rashawn without me knowing all of the details of your project, here’s my advice. 1. I think you answered your question with your question. Keep it simple, or trim the fat in other words. 2. Try taking a step back and look at your project/series from the viewers perspective. Is the information you’re sharing enough to get you’re point across/teach them, without it feeling too long. If it feels too long or too complicated. Chances are it is. Good luck with your project! Keep growing!
I struggle with emotional clutter: I have revisited the boxes and culled even further as I’m progressing on my journey. My beloved Father died a couple of years ago and I can’t see me getting rid of that small box of items: however the other two sentimental ones I have I have further culled. I was overwhelmed when I started my journey but the payoff is so rewarding: when I consider what I have donated and de cluttered in the past year I’ve made amazing progress. We are moving soon which require even further de clutter ing: my space is 90% better than when I started. It changes so many areas of your life.
Your channel is truly a breath of fresh air for the minimalism community. Typically these videos all say the same thing, but yours had more to it. It made me think. Thanks for making this.
so true, a lot of times i swear the minimalist videos just watch other minimalist videos and regurgitate but you really add something, I stop and think after.
Your shirt looks great on you! Sooo tired of seeing minimal guys on YT in black or grey t-shirts I could scream. Live to see a casual but we'll dressed guy.
I literally stopped your video part way through and went into a few cabinets in my dining area and kitchen and DECLUTTERED right there for 15 min. on the spot. :) THEN I finished your video. Now onto another. :)
I had a $450 baby crib that my children slept in once. Each of my children (they slept in my bed) I kept that crib until the oldest child was twelve. used only once . I was so emotionally attached to this item and others that my friend said take a picture of the children next to the crib and then give the crib away or sell it. I chose to give it and many other things away. Friends take lot of pictures it ease the pain a lot. xoxo
I was at a MAD spending Spree at the beginning of my 20s for my First Apartment. My fantasy self. And bought everything I couldn't afford when I was a Teen. But there is only so much one can buy until one is sated. And then I found minimalism. Started to slowly downsize . Use up the products I had and the clothes until they are no longer wearable or things that are broken and not replacing them. Selling things . Smaller apartments and donating excess stuff
Decluttering takes me weeks.I always have to go back and mine the exact same spots to go in and get rid of more things. The lies I tell myself in order to hold onto excessive materials.
Hi. Love the shirt. It's a classic that will never go out of style, the color is neutral and goes with most other colors and you look very clean and neat. 👍
I have all these types of clutter. I have purchased expensive items in the past and struggled what to do with it. I think of someone meaningful in my and give the item to them. It is meaningful to them and makes me feel good knowing I am passing it along.
I'm realizing how beneficial it is to journal; it does help us declutter in a multitude of ways. I have never thought of myself as being a writer. I really I've never applied myself in that regard, though.
The shirt is sharp, professional, uptown, preppy...yada, yada, yada... nice color choice. And yes you make it look good. But you KNEW that. I appreciate that you broke down the different types of clutter... I had only considered tangible stuff stacked on top of flat surfaces and stuffed into drawers, closets, bins, trunks, etc. which is primarily what I am daring to play chicken with me... it's me or the mess. I have the stocking up clutter. I have the bargain clutter. I have the sentimental clutter. I have some "but I spent a lot on it" clutter. BUT THE EYE-OPENING LABEL THAT YOU INTRODUCED ME TO TODAY WAS THE "ASPIRATIONAL CLUTTER"... oh my heavens. You know - I have so many "Suzy Homemaker gadgets, appliances, cookbooks, pinterest ideas, fabric, yarns, knick-knacks - that have been waiting a lifetime for me to "get to them one of these days" because I really INTEND to do it... that are suffocating the life out of me. I totally love the idea of doing them, but really don't know if I would ever have enough time to do half of them or even a tenth of them. So - I guess I am realizing that I have a FANTASY SELF. Never had it put that way and it is as plain as the nose on my face. This is going to take some serious adulting to work through. Again, I am indebted to your plain "beyond your years" advice. Keep inspiring.
I went overboard with art supplies and camera gear. Downsized that. Now several times you mentioned camping gear. I'm trying to keep it minimal, but... I see myself struggling to hold back (you should see my Amazon wish list). I need this for backpacking, I need this for fishing, I need this for overnight / camping out, I need this for vehicle maintenance and emergencies, first aid. Yeah it can add up fast...
Work work work work work... on this decluttering journey... its worth it nonetheless .. thank you for bringing things to light. Oh and nice shirt! It’s clean n simplistic
I am going through my craft stash. Have already rehomed 5-6 big bins (totes) of material. Have to admit the floss has been the biggest problem. Floss that has strayed from the kit it belongs to, skeins not put in their bag, and the ones given me from other crafters. The unfinished pieces, more fun to start than finish. The brainstorm ideas all the supplies purchased for but not the follow through with it time. Yah, and how many glue guns does one need? Crafters will get this. I can’t believe how much there is still. But it is a project I’m bound and determined to totally finish. Thanks for your wonderful videos!!!
I’m glad I found your channel this weekend. I think I’ve finally had a break though with the “I’ve spent too much money on this so I can’t get rid of it” clutter. I’m selling all my bins of extra clothes on eBay and poshmark for about half of what I spent but I know it’s better for me mentally than just donating and not getting any of the money back. Whatever I don’t sell then i donate. I’ve been slowly working through my clothing hoard and have made about $1k so far this year.
Just came across this video as a link from another video you had posted recently. The life changing clutter really hit hard with me. My brother unexpectedly died a year and a half ago, I had another brother who died 17 years ago. I’ve kept things from both of them, and I realize that I rarely look at the items . You are correct, the memories are within me. I’m going to take some time to sort through this in my mind, as I sort through the items I kept.
Just finished the video, tons of insightful advice. I'm working on decluttering while managing my ADHD so I wrote down some notes, for numbers two and eight I changed the names a little to make it shorter and easier to conceptualize. "Expensive Clutter" and "Greiving Clutter" :)
I am enjoying your channel a lot. Much of what you are saying I can see in my life. I am 66 and looking at being more minimal. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yes, the blue shirt looks good on you. It is a classic that 10 year's from not will be that go to piece for all your 'offical' occasions as well as when you just feel like wearing a button front. Now for #8, it is a minefield for many especially when people die, the mourning process must be respected. Most grief counselor's tell widowed partners to don't do anything, the first year. Conversely, military spouses are not given that grace which I personally believe to be horrendous, but I digressed. My point is, not everyone is immediately ready to part with the physical vestiges of a deceased loved ones life. You need to be ready to part with that and respect everyone's grief timeline, as they differ.
Hey now! I noticed the different look as soon as I tuned in. You're fly with both looks. You hot that little boy look lol. I'm working on my emotional and behavioral clutter. I've eliminated the toxic people finally. It took some tests but it was worth the cleanse. I'm doing a daily body cleanse from the toxins inside and out. I knew I was on the right path especially when this video came about. Thank you so much for caring. Much love and peace to you always. Looking forward to your next video.
You look awesome in this classy blue shirt. Great professional style! When wearing this classy blue shirt, do not let your "grey" T-shirt be seen in the neck area. Consider wearing a white T-shirt instead.
ugh--aspirational clutter....you hit me where it was needed....my basement is getting a dose of no more aspirational clutter. I found you a bit ago and am still catching up but this one was great for me. I love your videos...like the best friend this granny needed.
You are really speaking to me in regards to "Life changing clutter." As I was listening to your video (in my mother's house) I was going through her bathroom drawers trying to decide what to keep or get rid of. I felt strong enough today to ATTEMPT to go through her things...just for an hour so I wouldn't break down and cry. I literally had to stop what I was doing to respond to your video because you spoke on the very thing I'm going through today. I'm fighting back tears.
My Mom passed last year and we donated literally a ton of items. I still have some...photos etc. It's SO hard to let those go. 😥 I'm learning so much from your talks. Thank you.
I’m happy that you’re enjoying my content and that the conversations we have as really reaching you. I’m sorry for your loss. I know that’s hard on you! Keep growing and learning.
I liked your video a lot and your explanation of the 8 types of clutter. Getting rid of unnecessary clutter frees up the mind and makes living easier. I like your shirt, it fits you well, it appears to be well made and should last you a long time. Years ago my friend who is a professional Hollywood cosmetologist analyzed my complexion for the best colors to wear to best accent my appearance. I decluttered my closet a lot because I found many items did not accent my complexion and now I only buy clothing that are the best colors for my complexion. This is another way to declutter a closet.
I like the shirt , classic & clean minimalist style. I appreciate your channel because, I’ve been a minimalist for many years and I find myself even as a minimalist building clutter and inspirational videos like yours help motivate me to get back on track.
I just discovered this channel and subscribed. This guys is the sweetest, cutest, handsomest and the most likable and charming RU-vidr I've ever seen. Smart! Oh, yeah, I'm down!
Since I'm only starting in minimalism, I've been going through many videos in the minimalism community and it's almost the same. I just stumbled through your video and your content got me hooked! It's always very direct and concrete. I'm so grateful for the way you're sharing your journey in minimalism, it's like a guide to me. More power!
I love your videos. Your voice is so calming and your advice is right to the point with not a lot of beating around the bush. And I love that they aren't super long. I'm getting lots of good tips from you and I'm going to have to check out your writings if they're in here. Fellow writer here. I always love checking out other people's work. Thanks!
I love the fantasy self idea in relation to items to get rid of. Wow. Mind blown. We are moving into a camper as a family of 4 here next month. And purging again. And your shirt looks great on you.
Good looking shirt. Material looks to be of good quality. Probably washes up nice, too. Don't keep all of the items of a loved one. Only keep a few special items.
I enjoyed the video, you are easy to listen to! I subscribed. I am not interested in becoming a minimalist, but I like to try to remind myself different ways to keep down the clutter. I hate clutter since it stresses me out to have it all in my space, but I am not naturally good at not having it around! It seems to be a long process and retraining your brain! But I’ll get there!
Mijou welcome to the community! I hope my content continues to help you on your journey. Retraining the way to think to form me habits like this can be challenging, but it’s possible. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. Keep growing and learning!
Just discovered your channel today. I love it. I remember one time my brother was trying to help me to declutter but I protested saying that those things are part of my life and I was too emotionally attached to give up. It's good to know that I am not the only one who feels this way. I have just recently started to get rid of my too much stuff. it's not easy but I am improving every day. Bit by bit I'll get it done.
I love that you’re getting started on your journey Anthony, that’s awesome! Keep growing and learning on your journey. And remember to stay true to you during the process!
Love ur shirt!!! U always look great ! Sales have been my weakness but I have learned to ignore them unless I NEED it then. And I finally let go of my expensive items though it was soooooo hard to do. It does get easier. I need the tax deduction to donate them anyway. lol
Hi I’m new to ur channel and I’m so glad I found u 😃 all of these types of clutter effect my life. U put titles to them which are a big help. Thanks for ur inspiring videos. I’m totally going to be able to get rid of my clutter and be more of a minimalist. And, love ur shirt the color looks good on u. 👍🏾✌️❤️
Ronald, thank you for this video, and for being sensitive and considerate towards the feelings of others when it comes to sentimental items (which I have plenty of). Also, your shirt looks nice on you!
Great shirt! I subscribed to your channel yesterday and have been binge watching. Thank you for being such a breath of fresh air and sharing great content! You're down-to-earth, kind, honest and not afraid to drop the necessary truth bombs - love it! Working on minimalism myself and hoping my husband will jump on board too when he sees how much easier life can be with less stuff. 😊
Nice shirt, fits you well😊.I thank you for the types of clutter, I am a bargain clutter, and I spent to much money on this clutter.I have ready started slowing getting rid of clutter, we have had a garage sale and we have donated a lot to VETERANS Disable program. Wow, just having a clear definition makes more sense to help me declutter better. AGAIN Thank you.
Emotional, sentimental clutter are my top two....ahhh yes I also have behavioral clutter. Enjoying the vids! Nice shirt, simple and classic. Thanks for the insight!
First of all : nice shirt ! You look great in it. Second of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts, it’s very enlightening. I think my main problem is behavioral clutter. I do have physical souvenirs I hold on to but since I have learned about the Konmari method, I make sure everything I keep does actually bring joy to my life. Peace & love from France
LETTING GOOOOOOOO!!!!LOL Have you ever bought greeting cards and birthday bags ahead of time too...ugh and I keep things that are sentimental, behavioral, emotional, and paperwork clutter.....much changing to do over here, but I'm new here and you really inspire me, I know God brought this video up for me......and your other similar videos😊 I'm ready for change!!!
Welcome to the community Nye! I’m really happy you decided to subscribe. I’m also excited for you and your journey. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!
Love the shirt 👕 Aspirational clutter is so hard to get rid of! Like it inspires me to get my butt up and workout (Hence my workout stuff) But it’s hard to work out at home with a 2 year old 😒 and I have a bag full of pens and pencils I plan to donate to our local library
I always try to stay active and find time to workout in my schedule. Looks different from week to week but starting to build a habit. I’ve never thought about donating excess pens and pencils to the library, I can definitely do that too. Thank you!
Suggestion to work out at home with a 2yo. Slowly warm up to the idea of getting in shape. Get a big work out ball, put your outfit on one day a week. Wear it 30 mins & watch a show or RU-vid. Instead of sitting in a chair sit on the ball. Work your core by balanceing, then get on your knees with ball in front. Lean over it, put hands on other side, lift one arm & opposite leg. Hold for few seconds & switch. Start a new behavior, eventually it becomes a habit, then you increase to gain momentum. Make it a game for the child & be creative. Search RU-vid for Mom's exercising with children. Best wishes.
Just your channel through your collab with Abundantly Minimal! Love what I am seen so far! Great shirt! I think a blue button down is a classic for any man's wardrobe! It is a pretty versatile item!
