Pin palette is definitely a lowbrow watch but would still love to see you give it a service. These watches gave style and basic function for so many working people. Like Timex, Ingersoll epitomized the American ethos of cheap, mass production so everyone could have a watch. Stylish on the outside, fast and rough on the inside.

Hi Mike, congratulations on your Bulova! I nearly cried when you pulled out that second Ingersoll (the Triumph) - my dad wore one when he was a navigator on V-Force, Bomber Command in the 1950s. He put it in a draw when he got his Seiko but after he died I wore it for years until one day ... I still have it and would love to see you bring yours back to life so I can learn from you. You're looking really well, I hope you and your family are happy.

The timex would be a great short video. Open case, hands off, face off, DIP, dry, face on, hands on, clean and polish case, wind movement, runs (👍🎉) or not (😱🥺), load into case, snap back on, DONE. And not much editing to the video. So this is why I vote for the Timex. As for all the bands, I would not wear any of them. They all look like the hair puller I had early in life. Cursed them all out when any type of movement with my wrist.

LOL i was saying the same thing as soon as i saw the wristbands all i was thinking damn hair pullers back in the day .. as for the Timex just clean it up a little spit and polish and you're good that Timex is a really nice work or a daily user but the best part you can say whatever you want about a Timex out of all the watches the Timex was the only one that was still running LOL but the old military watch was really nice like to see that get restored

Don't worry about radioactivity. That meter shows micro Sievert, which is extremely low. The yearly dose of radiation emitted by the building materials in your home can be up to 1000 times higher. Just take care not to ingest or breath the radioactive lume if you scrape it from the hands or the dial. You don't want the stuff trapped inside your body.

The dial and markers of the Benrus are very similar to my 1963 Belforte, a Benrus budget line of that era. Indeed, the hands on mine also have radium. However, as best I can tell, the movement is a 21J Seikosha. Very enjoyable video. Thanks

Waterbury Clock company in Connecticut USA made Ingersoll clocks and pocket watches for the US market. In Europe Ingersoll was made by someone else. Waterbury later started making wristwatches and called them Timex. US Time Corp. They used a hard metal alloy called Armalloy for bearings instead of expensive jewels starting in the 1940's. Timex and Hamilton were US companies back then that made watches for the US military during WW2. Hamilton was bought and moved to Swiss in about 1969. During the 1960's, 1 in every 3 watches sold in the USA was a Timex. They built factories in UK, France, Germany, South America and Asia. Cheaper watches from Asia killed Timex during the 70's and 80's. I don't remember ever wanting to buy a Timex. LOL

Glass and plastic and metal are a significant barrier to alpha and beta radiation. Old radium will go brown. Its the dust you have to watch, from inside the dail case. There is no gamma on these so no real danger unless you ingest it or breathe it.

@@captainhaddock2137 i think the main 'fault' is they were a cheaper alternative so they're more likely to have bare metal pivots rather than jewels so more wear and more friction on the pallet pins than on pallet jewels so less potential for accuracy. On the Bulova A-11 I recommend you to decode the sign on the movement to obtain it's manufactured date then shop around and match it's manufactured date with the serial # back case (after AF there is two numbers that represents the year. example AF43. 1943.) This watch more than likely if manufactured 1945 or prior may have been in combat. You do as you please but if this was my watch, replating would erase it's possible battle damage history.

Love all those watches. On the bands... if they are Speidel they are worth something in the 'scissors' type. That was the first type they made and did so from maybe 1950 to 1960 I paid a lot for a mint white gold plate one made in the 50's to go with my 1949 Omega Jumbo... Jumbo means these were huge for the day at 37-38 mm and more dial than a 44 mm dive watch. Also I am a sucker for small seconds. I am 6' and anything smaller than say 33 mm looks pretty small on me. Also on these old ones that will never be worth much? I paint the hands and 12 oclock Europium rare earth lume.. not as good as luminova but willl still glow after maybe 6 hours in the dark? it is far better than some products I have bought in the past.

Mike, well done with this lot! You can easily learn to plate, it’s the removing of the chrome and polishing that’s trick but I have a feeling you will be good at that with your background. WW2 watch please! Have you thought about a video showing what gear you use to make these videos? What camera do you use?
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches Год назад
I plan to do a bench tour soon if I can figure out how to put it on film in an interesting way. This could include the camera setup. Not sure why people would be really that interested in that other than if they plan to film themselves. I currently use 2 iphones and a Lumix G7 to film plus a F2.8 100mm canon lens for all the close stuff. That lens is not cheap !

I got on a watch kick a while back buying and selling etc. I would often buy 'lots' like you did cause I spotted at least one I wanted. it was always exciting to open the box. Ones I bid on were Wyler then Hamilton then Bulova and the Accutron line... then some of he more interesting Russian dive and work and alarm watches (all of the russians were pretty cheap) Sieko and citizen and orient only if they came in a lot.. never liked em much..still don't Got rid of most but still have 50 or so after giving a lot of em away to family and friends. Daily wear is Omega and Hamilton and to change things up a tuning fork Accutron once in a while. Also some wind up swiss watches that are not well known. It is a lot of fun and I recently got back into what I have because my son is here now... you know how it goes.... he will mention some watch and I will say "yeah... think I got a couple around here somewhere" in the process of organizing now.

Sounds like you had some fun and found some nice watches. I find here in the UK the joblots are not what they used to be plus when a good one does come along its spotted by everyone and that puts the price up. This lot I posted on my facebook group and many commented they were either watching it or had actually bid!
@doranmaxwell1755
@doranmaxwell1755 Год назад
@@MyRetroWatches It may be that here in America there is a bigger market? and that there are sooo many things to bid on and many people want something specific and ignore the lots? I do know that often things I want are not listed properly in the not quite right category. Say for an Omega Jumbo.... I ran through the list but '265 movements' gave me more.

Hi There, great content and lovely watch you got there. Some weeks ago I picked up a vintage watch on a secondhand market for 15 euro. It looks from the sixties or seventies and Its an automatic 25 jewel day/ date, with no hand winding with a gold coulered dial. I did some search on internet for the brand but cound't find much about it. Its said GC on de dail in a small triangle. It has a bubbleback case and dial size is 30 mm. Its swiss made, because on the 6 o'clock its printed T swiss made T. Idont know exactly what that means. So i dont know anything about the movement because I didn't open it up. Do you know anything about this brand or movement, and does T swiss made T mean?
@MyRetroWatches

T is for tritium. It’s the lume. Less radioactive than radium.

Can you tell me if it's best to store a watch for a couple of days fully wound? i.e. using the hacking function, or is it better to let it run down and re-adjust the date / time every few days? I have several Automatic watches, and like to wear them every few days for variety.
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches Год назад
I personally do not see any issue with having them hacked but I guess the movement is at stress whilst being held.

EBay is not what it was 6-7 years ago but still a good place. Too much competition now

@@MyRetroWatches Finding it hard to judge prices, I would love a vintage example but new models seem to be cheaper and obviously less of a risk. The search goes on!

many vintage watches are not stainless steal. they are nickel plated. do you think that nickel plated watches can cause cancer or some kind of harm?
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 10 месяцев назад
I have no idea but remember it’s not the caseback that’s nickel only the case. I’ve had prostate cancer already at only 50 but it’s unrelated. Same with the radioactive lume. I don’t really have that much worry.
