The Omega Speedmaster Professional is a true addictive watch… I have tried different models and brands in the last 6 years but after just 5-6 week I come constantly back to the good old Speedmaster… Great content! Thanks for sharing!

For me, what makes a Speedmaster Professional so hard to let go is just how versatile it is. I have no other watch in my collection that’s as much of a strap monster as that one.

Mine 3861 Sapphire was faulty out of the box. It is still in repair as we speak and it was barely a month of owning it. So far - I am still to be impressed... I also own 124060 so I wanted the Speed to be the other solid pillar of my collection. 2 very expensive and solid watches. Now I know without a doubt if I am forced to seell - I'll sell the Omega without even thinking about it. They are readily available and hopefully will work as it should out of the box

In general, I agree with most of your comments. The only thing to keep in mind, is that it's a privilege to be able to keep watches and just add to the collection. A privilege that not everyone has. If the budget is limited, it comes down to which watch do you want more. Thank you for the content.

Does it matter if the Speedy is on an alligator strap or steel bracelet to sell? If one has the leather strap one, but wasn’t able to get a steel bracelet one that’s discontinued?

Unfortunately, unless it's a Rolex, selling watches even to Del Rey is a rip off experience. You lose so much value...keep what you purchased. As my collection has grown and became higher horology, I have a secondary watch box for the watches I acquired early on in the hobby.

This is so true! I got my first watch, a submariner from AD in 2014 to mark my engagement to my fiancé. This alone hit many of the points covered. Haha.. Had to absolutely sell it as I had no job when the oil market crashed in end 2015 and I had a daughter coming. Sold it at a huge loss and kept thinking about it now and again. End 2017, I was back on my feet and went on a hunt. I found the exact piece in 2018 and got it back. At a premium of course. But it’s worth every dollar. It’s never leaving me! 😎

Great advice which I largely follow, with one exception: I sold a special limited edition watch to a good friend as he loved it and I had just bought another watch of the same colour. Every time I see him wearing it I get a pang of regret. At least it is on good hands 🙌

you're right... I sold my first Swiss watch - an Oris with pre-red mech case-back... to fund a Charmex 20,000ft and regret it big time as well as my Omega Great White and Seiko Spork... 3 watches I will never be able to obtain again... one of the watches I will never sell... also my 114060, you are right again, my no date sub... also my Ploprof 1200m cal 8500... and my one and only Tudor, a blue pelagos... also a Panerai PAM24 that my dad swapped with for my 216570 explorer 2 that he wears everyday... also my first Omega a SMP300 Chrono white dial, and a black dial backup... one remaining Oris XXL big Crown chrono... also my new Garmin Instinct 2X... it has the handy complication of TORCH... and heart rate monitor and step counter "complication"... might be selling my Planet Ocean chrono cal 9300, PAM 219 and DSSD 116660... maybe... idk... having planet ocean, ploprof and seamasters... i crave for a speedy sandwich... for years now...

My first non-Timex was a Omega Moonwatch I bought one in 1965 in Bern for about $150. It had a leather band. It is a "pre-Moon" version. I don't know if this has any effect on value. I used it as my daily watch for 20 years. The timer got used for developing film; to help when navigating in car rallies and flying (I was a pilot). It got cleaned a few times and somewhere along the line one of the timer buttons got changes and it does not look quite right. I would like to get it get it spruced up, but don't want to hurt the value. Can the face be cleaned without damage? Should I send it to Omega? I have always regretted that I could not afford to get the bracelet at the time I bought the watch.

First and second generation digital watched have already gone up in value, but IMHO, they will just keep getting more and more expensive. I just love models from the early 70's when digital watches were as expensive as a Rolex that had the build quality that matched that of an expensive brand. LED models are already expensive relative to the later LCD models, but not prohibitively so and perfect examples the first generation Seiko's and Casiotron's can still occasionally be picked up for around $100 (around same price as contemporary good quality digitals). I jusr recently bought a Casiotron X1 and 03-502 for $79 each that are in near NOS condition. Even LED's that are broken are worth getting because there are a couple of companies that make / repair modules for most early models (search 'LED PLT1' and 'LED spareandstrikes') for around $150. I currently own most of the early Pulsars and several Seiko's and Casiotrons and have never paid more than $120 for them. I also have a '69 Speedmaster that I bought in the early 90's for $750 of a watchmaker that serviced it for $250 and supplied a period correct NOS 1171 band for $250 (the watchmaker was a friend of a friend so got a good deal bc they were going for around $2500 at the time). Funny story, when he showed me the band it was very loose and I told him that I wanted a new band and he assured me that it was new. I also balked at the price and he again assured me that he was giving it ti me at cost. I kinda didn't believe him until just recently when I came across the exact same NOS band on eBay going for $US1100!!! (my earlier quoted prices where in AUD).
