Great video, taking delivery of mine in march. So the best and easiest option is to remove the fuse for the OBD port probably.

Great video. I know many people don't, but I keep my car in the garage. If parking on the street, try and park under a street light. Thieves don't like being seen. Get all glass etched with vehicle reg number. If stolen and plates changed they have to change all the glass too. This puts them off a bit. Alpha dot individual parts. Park with front wheels turned in slightly. Makes it hard for them to pick up the whole car and put it on a low loader. Keep keys in a Farraday bag. You can tell I was bought up in a high crime area in the 80's.

This is really helpful, thankyou. I have an ST3, I keep it in the garage but when out and about generally worry about leaving it anywhere. I keep the keys in an RF wallet that stops the key working, also got a disklock based your advice, but still worry about the unsecure OBD. Will defo have a look at the SPS device option as a means of disabling the automotive functions of the car. Thanks again!

I had a hidden ignition kill switch fitted behind the carpet below the door surround. The only indication of it was a red light on the dashboard. No-one but myself and the garage who fitted it knew of it's existence, but remember to tell anyone else it's there who will be working on your car. I came back to see my car unmoved and a confused garage employee saying he couldn't start it. Quick simple and almost perfect.

Following up on my own comment below- I used 1 inch x 1 inch aluminium angle to cover the OBD port, and am very happy with the end result.

The ideal methods are the ones that don't affect you and your daily drive. All this keyless entry stuff to be more convenient but then you need a 12 step process to start the car cause it's the only way to secure it

Great video as always mate and an important one too as there are too many scum bags about these days! Another security option (that has nothing to do with the car) is to install parking bollards to your driveway! Don't get me wrong they'll set you back a few hundred, but there's no chance your car will ever leave the drive :). Luckily for us my dad and I are both engineers so we can just fit them ourself lol.

I got an St-Line x. When it’s parked at work and on my drive, I have a steering wheel lock attached and a small wheel clamp attached. I was thinking about adding an electric shock device 😂

Nice vid! For my mr230 I unclipped the odb port and cable tied it way up behind the steering column, got the odb disabled sticker in the hope the theives can read and not break the windows, I also have the disk lock too to also try and deter them from breaking in in the first place

MBE. Do you have a mk7 or mk8. That large plastic attached to the obd port and short connector on the mk8 makes me wonder if it can’t be moved.

@@paulshepherd1012 I have a mk7, removed the little storage door and tucked it up well away then put the storage door back, I did have a dummy odb port bit removed it. Too much extra wire and realistically when a their sees there is no odb port they will probably move on, having a dummy will just make them stay abit longer to try it, not sure about the mk8 if that's what u have

@@matt12345b thanks. I have the mk7 but am getting the mk8. The mk8 had a massive piece of plastic attached the the obd port as you can see from this video. See the video at 3:30 to see what i mean. The worry is that its too big to be put behind the dashboard and the harness its connected too has very little wire. I think Ford have really dropped the ball here. An expensive aftermarket immobiliser is needed i fear.

Hi Jonny, been subbed for a while and bought myself an ST-3 yesterday and I've come back to your video as I'm a bunch of nerves about theft! What impact does removing the OBD fuse have? It seems like a good thing to do as I can still use the vehicle, does it just prevent obd data transfer? I will also get a disc lock, thanks very much for all your informative video's, it's been fantastic market research!

From what I understand (and I could be wrong so feel free to correct me!), the MK8 Fiesta has a 10 minute OBD deactivation feature from when the alarm is triggered. From my understanding, removing the fuse disables this security feature. Again, correct me if I'm wrong!

I also use a disklok on my vehicle with leather steering wheel I simply fit an old black t shirt on the wheel Before fitting the lock and no mark on your wheel no matter how you fit it. Plus you can store the lock in the T-shirt afterward to hide it up in the car.

Is the issue with the OBD port for just with keyless entry. Or all ST. Just ordered a ST without keyless entry. So watching. Removing the fuse seems like the easiest option.

If you take out the OBD fuse does that have any effect on the security in regards to the 10 minute lockout of the OBD port in the event of the alarm being triggered or any body plugging in a device in the port ?

The legislation is that 3rd parties can access the OBD to do diagnostics etc and not allowing the manufacturers to lock it down. This is why key programming is so easy. If they jist made is so only a dealer can program a key it would make such a difference.

I like the aluminium idea and fuse 10 idea. However if OBD access is required at the annual service... Disklok + anti-theft by your chosen Revo/mountune might balance total security with practicality. Also did you try the ‘OBD Portector?’

Ghost is great and it's not too bad price wise, £399 set price no matter who fits it, and yeah the car just throws up every error code you an think of if you don't enter correct pin. Plus can have loads of extras like valet mode, anti hijack etc personally I think that's the best option but also have a dislok as a visual deterrent. Good video though

Will nicks 96 I think the immobiliser and alarm could be switch off with the obd but I’m sure they would have to do something to your ignition barrel as it’s a physical thing that has to turn. Push starts are the problem.

Really useful video. Are there any day to day issues removing the fuse for the OBD port? Of course it can be plugged straight back in when the port is required, but otherwise surely that is the simplest way to avoid theft? I

I see Ford have released a new Keyfob too for new models. this sleeps after 40 seconds and only wakes up once motion is sensed. QUOTE: The upgraded fob now comes as standard with all new Fiesta and Focus models. In addition, existing owners of these models can purchase the key as an aftermarket upgrade. It would be nice if Ford U.K. now took advantage of being outside the EU by removing the port or making it more secure. What Ford do within the EU is not really our problem, security of these expensive pieces of hardware should be a priority. Drivers shouldn’t face higher premiums thanks to a rather stupid rule created by people in another country who are not effected by the consequences of it.

what about clogging the obd port? You could make non-electrically conductive pins and stuck them in the obd pin ports. The clogging pins should be short enough so they are not visible so the thief can connect their scanner but the pins avoid the electrical connection. Thus the thief is left clueless.

So the point of blocking the obd port is for tune thefts? Or can they start your car with some obd thing? Maybe this is a problem in Europe I've never seen a reason to do this in the USA. But again great video and professional presentation.

Tony Lester Interesting that it’s not an issue in the US. It’s to prevent vehicle theft as the OBD can be exploited to create a new key if you have the right knowledge. So if your vehicle has push to start, it’s not too difficult to get it moving without a key.

Not really, unless a company builds one specifically for this car - I've not seen one yet.

I'm a bit late to this bit Ford nailed the OBD on this. It has some funly gateway tech in it which is the reason your car is useless when its removed. If the car is locked and obd access attempted, alarm goes off and obd locked out.

Whitty850 It’s not just Fiesta’s it’s all vehicles with push to start. The OBD port can be exploited to start the car without a key so it’s a good idea to prevent that if you can!

I bought my st as an ex-demo. Luckily the dealership was installed a ghost alarm system for the salesman who has it as a demonstrator. Also do you know if ford improved the keyless system over the MK7 and if there is anyway to disable it like on the focus st ?

I know on my mates mk3 focus st there is an option to disable the keyless. So you have to press the button to unlock and lock it. There doesn’t seem to be that option on the fiesta which seems strange

You can disable keyless entry - was the first thing I did when I got mine. Very easy to do using the steering wheel buttons and the information display on the dashboard

Mania28 on board diagnostics port. It’s the entry in to the ECU (on board computer) that can be used for nearly everything. It’s found in the footwell of the car. Have a rummage and you’ll find it 👍🏼

Some of these, if i was a thief i would take tools and could just reverse this. I mean i know how these work so as a thief how can't i know how to look for this? I mean it makes it harder but a good old steering lock provides much better protection and you can see it through the window. Id prefer the relocating the OBD port if you can hide it. That would be suffice but a pain in the ass if you need it.

James H None of these techniques are impenetrable, but they make life more difficult for the crims thus increasing the chances of your car still being there. The best security is variation so hopefully everyone will choose different methods or a different combination of methods and therefore it’ll be difficult for the crims to prepare for every eventuality 👍🏼

Best way by far is to place a ralais on the fuel pump power lines, and hidden the switch in a place only you know...... I've done it during a major maintenance on my Focus ST......... Only a crane can steal your car at this point. Best way by far.....

Quick question, got my Fiesta ST today with LED headlights,the headlights switch from off to autolamps on it's own when I push the ignition button,how do I stop this happening? Thanks.

Rob P Hey! I did notice this, but for once I find the auto lights to be quite good so I leave them on. Presumably there will be something in the settings if you wish to change it, but I’ve not looked yet. Try the settings both on Sync and also on the dash 👍🏼

@@JBCTR Thanks,have contacted Ford for help,had a focus ST3 and the lights behaved normally,the Fiesta's lights even automatically switch to auto lamps in full daylight and switches the lights on just weird. Thanks again.

Can anyone help......Just wondering what size wheel disk-lock (referring to the one shown in the video) i would need for my MK8 fiesta ST. I beleave they are available in small,medium, and large. Am guessing it would be small for the fiesta ST ?

Why is no one mentioning that removing the obd fuse would be the best option out of them all? In my mind that’s a no brainier and would save you a lot of money. Is it because thief’s can have their own fuse and simply plug it in?

I was thinking the same. You could just hand tighten the screws when in use to hold it in place. The worry is that the wiring connector would eventually wear and may stop working.

How ridiculous with how far technology has come you have to use stop lock type devices in this day and age and go to such lengths , certainly a backwards step, time manufactures sorted this out
