I found that the Major weak point in the EW was the Crankshaft girdle. It was a Hollow girdle. we had a custom solid one made to handle the power. We spent in early 2006 around $7k building it. I had an 86 Prelude Si with this same engine and trans and I LOVED that car and always wanted to turbo it, but there were never any parts available for it when I had it. The only aftermarket exhaust that was available was a Pacesetter...lmao I could've only DREAMED of something like this, but honestly, fabrication skills aside, this wouldn't be all that hard to accomplish if you knew what you were doing. Lost it due to a wreck some lady hit the wall and I stopped to check on her and some guy in a Saturn rear-ended my car 400ft across the freeway pushed my rear tire under the car complete total loss. My Dad had one of these when I was growing up - it was a GREAT car, and they used to be EVERYWHERE In the early to mid 2000's. Even today in California I still see at least a few a month running around. Fun fact, the A series engine is an amazing well kept secret, these things take boost like champs. The low compression and strong iron block/sleeves means you can get away with running a ton of boost on them. I used to follow some of the turbo builts of these back in the 2000's on homemadeturbo. It's amazing to see this one doing so well. This gen Accord (one of the only 4 doors to have pop ups) and the next gen were some of the best and most fondly remembered Accords ever, by far.

It was my first car that wasn't a domestic three, and showed me the potential for Japanese autos, and FWDs! Great Mileage... I bought mine for 400 with a bad clutch and 218k miles, and would eventually go through 2 engines, 2 transmissions, a clutch, before selling it for more than I paid. I was young and abusive with it, I wish I still had that car. I terrorized Phoenix (I mean Mexico) HAHA, and drove way too fast all the time.

That car reminds me of my old 1986 Prelude Si that I had. It was the original Road and Track test car back in 86, and it was one of the first Hondas produced with PGMFI. It was a Si, so obviously it was a 5 speed manual with the A20A. I really wish that I would've known more about turbocharging Hondas because I could've made something cool work like this. I also owned an 89 CRX that I converted to OBD1 and swapped a JDM D15B VTEC into it as well as a manual swap, a 92 Civic LX sedan with a JDM D15B VTEC swap, 79 Civic 1200 with a 4 speed manual, a 92 Integra GS with a self-built turbo B18A1 that made 258 whp on low boost with a turbo kit that I pieced together, and now I have a 97 EJ8 Civic EX coupe that has a self-built all forged B18B1 with a B16B CTR head, Skunk2 Tuner Stage 3 cams, all kinds of mods that makes 612 whp on it's current tune. One thing I always wondered was if that A20A could've put out some more power. Guess I know now...now that that car's been gone for 18 years...

My 85 is probably gonna end up with an A20 if i can find one. its has the ES2 12 valve in right now. It has some little rust spots but nothing major, still all solid sheet metal. I payed $350 for it with 320k miles and complete service history from date of purchase till 2009 where it sat for a few years then got resold. the next guy kept records up till i got it. I have continued to do the same. Just over the weekend i decided to stick a timing light on the thing since its be a complete dog for the 2 months ive had it. It looks as if it only had about 6 degrees of timing. Now it has the 16 or 20 it calls for, cant remember right off the top of my head (Been a long weekend) It woke that little engine right up. Also had to make some carb adjustments, that little 3bbl was tough to find info on and get right Fun fact. It was purchased in 86 about an hour north of where we now live. Never thought i would love a little Honda till this girl showed up. Also, no leaks or smoke of any kind. Pretty cool i.imgur.com/HVtkYdX.jpg My plan is to bump the power with an engine change up to around the 120hp mark and use my fabrication skills to work up some suspension that will use modern components. I want to make this a damn good little AutoX or track car. We have The Ridge Motorsport Park just about 30 minutes north of us. I keep saying 12 valve but its 16. i.imgur.com/LOu2i06.jpg Edit for the 5th time. Home Boy with the "MmmKay" needs to put that word away. Makes him sounds like a complete Asshole.

I remember this model the nose looks exactly like a prelude, just 4 doors, I used to get around in one back in the day.

could you explain timing a bit more one of these days? like what's a ballpark number you'd go for on an engine you don't trust and how it would incrase throughout the map. i know compression, boost, fuel and all sorts of things contribute to this but an example with actual numbers would be super helpful for the home gamers :D

Beautiful body work on cool garage build, with technology well beyond it's OEM vacuum engine controls. Two thumbs up!

My 1st Honda back in 97 was a 86 prelude si that used this same engine. Torque monsters and came alive with a nitrous kit. I to had the same repeated head gasket issues

My first car was a silver 86 accord sedan. The interior was mint but the body was rusted really bad. Awesome car, wish i could have kept it! Loved the flip lights!

My first car was an 89' Accord. It was carbureted. Miss that car. The hatchbacks are beautiful, my dream car to find one of those in good shape.

I didn't even realize that honda had a 12 valve transition motor between the old 8 valves and the 16 valves 3 valves per cylinder that's so cool!

My cousins favorite car was the 80s prelude had a sick black one and some one rear ended it, then he picked up a red one. One of those would shred with a k.

My dad had a white ‘86 LXi (hatchback version)... looked very cool, similar to a hachi-roku 86! ✨✨ It was the first car I ever wrenched on.

Really digging the overall look of this car, fenders and wheel combo flow very nicely. Also to be complimented on a base tune by Brent would be a daymaker. Also i'm not familiar with 12v hondas, is it two intake or exhaust? Got a gnarly sound to it especially once it makes some more boost.

Love those late 80s and early 90s Honda engines. Not too hard to fix and live forever if you keep it maintained.

I'm late to the party but I'm blessed to have my first Honda be a 2g accord in 2024. These cars are too cool. I have the 1.8l es3 and it makes peak torque at 2500 rpm, it easily does as good as a carbed 3g up to 88. I want to either find an a20 like this or start the lengthy expensive process of swapping a modern rebuildable powerplant into it. Idk what to do yet. Cool video and great looking car though!
