I Built cabinets out of Extruded Aluminum 80/20 for my Toyota Tacoma Truck Camper. This is the first video of the series. Make sure to take many screenshots because that is how I was able to learn what I needed to build these. I have also provided links below and wrote out in detail what exactly I used.
Enjoy!

Nicely done! That combination of aluminum and lightweight wood paneling is great. Seems nice and sturdy and also isn't super heavy. I was thinking of doing an all wood build in the back of my truck but you have me rethinking my build. 👍👍

Curious as to how likely 10 series is to bend. I built my drawers using wood with some really heavy duty drawer slides but right now the whole thing is coming in at hundreds and hundreds of pounds. I’d like to start reworking things using aluminum, but I also don’t want it to end up bending…

i currently have custom slide our drawers in my truck bed, so it's nice I just open tailgate and pull out sliders and have access to camp kitchen on one side and storage/tools on the other side. i'm considering getting a wedge camper but this kind of set-up you have here does make me a little nervous that it'd be kind of inconvenient to get things as it seems you'd have to crawl in there to access what you need, ie. fridge/etc. for example if you just need to stop for lunch on the trail, are you opening the camper wedge 100% so you can actually stand in there?
@jonnytacooutdoors
@jonnytacooutdoors 2 месяца назад
I had a similar setup before with slide out drawer. Opening it up to stand in there. I hang out in there when weather is bad that is the advantage. I use the storage cabinets to put my plastic storage pins and everything is accessible. Tell Topo Toppers I sent ya if you decide to go with them. 😎

I LOVE your build Out! Starting to plan something along these lines for a gen 3 Tacoma 6' bed with a popup camper shell. Can you tell me if you cut your pieces of 80/20 yourself, or provided measurements and had them cut for you. Also what did you use to attach the insulation to the sides and front of the truck bed. Do you feel that area wise that provides you with enough extra insulation as opposed to also covering up the wheel wells? TIA for your expertise !
@jonnytacooutdoors
@jonnytacooutdoors Год назад
I ordered everything to size from tnutz. Gave them the measurements. The 1” home insulation is good enough for a house it’s good enough for my truck bed. The insulation I didn’t attach it was a firm fit and it held in by itself. It’s covered with the cabinets now so that also holds it in.

@jonnytacooutdoors
@jonnytacooutdoors Год назад
Thanks! I used these along with some tacoma bed rail nuts and bolts purchased off Amazon. Drill holes in these and slide the nuts through with a washer. www.amazon.com/Senfei-Security-Bracket-Connector-Channel/dp/B08QN4G6GX?crid=S79MRLDO46QT&keywords=senfei+heavy+duty+bar+holder+shaped+connector&qid=1678746422&sprefix=senfei+heavy+duty+bar+holder+shaped+connecto,aps,165&sr=8-2&linkCode=sl1&tag=jonnytaco-20&linkId=2405053fe4c1247bcc5bbdc17dd42870&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl If you have instagram reach out and I’ll send a picture . I used four bolts on each side. The bolts heads were hard to get to so I actually had to grind down a wrench to fit in there and SLOWLY tighten them down. Hope this help.

@ghosttooth6226 8 месяцев назад
I have questions. So from bottom to top.... 1/2 inch insulation (on the truck bed), on top of that 1/2 inch plywood. Does the insulation get dented by the ridges of the bed? Or is it firm enough to stay flat? Then... did you only use 4 of the truck bed bolts to secure the whole thing? Did you put washers under the gaps?
@jonnytacooutdoors
@jonnytacooutdoors 8 месяцев назад
There’s six bed bolts, not sure on the insulation what it did. No washers were used.

Cool build and great video! How has the 1/8" birch held up to use in the slots of the aluminum? I'm planning to do the same thing but had concerns that it was a little flimsy and might fall out if accidentally kicked. Going back and forth between that or using panel retainer brackets to securely attach 1/4" birch.
@jonnytacooutdoors
@jonnytacooutdoors 8 месяцев назад
It’s been holding up great no issues. I do wish that I painted the wood instead of putting the paper on it but it is what it is. The world is thick enough and doesn’t fall out. If you get the size right I haven’t had any issues with my panels falling out not even the sliding panel.
