1. News4LA Update

3. Social Security Teleclaims
4. Carpeteria (Nice pants)
5. Mischa's Restaurant & Cabaret
6. Carpeteria (She looks like somebody's mistress)
7. Alcoholism Councils of Los Angeles County PSA (I think this ad actually caused more drinking than it prevented it)
8. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints PSA (Because Mormons are totally hip with the young people)
9. Foundation for Children with Learning Disabilities PSA
10. Forest Service PSA (Fire: The untamed element, oldest of man's mysteries. Giver of warmth, destroyer of forests. Right now this commercial is on fire!)
11. Nursing Has Changed PSA
12. LA County Animal Care & Control PSA (If you don't have a dog you'll be murdered by thieves in the night! Dogs protect you from DANGER. Don't walk, RUN! to your nearest animal shelter)
13. High Blood Pressure PSA (The most funkadelic song about high blood pressure I've ever heard)
14. Promo for "News Conference '82"

First of all I would like to say that you did an incredible job showcasing all these 80's commercials. As a person who grew up in the 70's and 80's in socal, it was a pleasure watching them again and reminiscing. I would like to reiterate what TerryT1976 said in that this is "Retro SoCal heaven" I thought I would never see the Norton Simon Museum commercial again. (Still knew most of the words) Thanks for the uploads!!!!

@blugreen123 These aired during a rebroadcast of the news at 2:30 AM, hence all of the local ads and PSAs.

This must be the early morning/overnight period, with random news bulletins and commercial breaks full of poorly written and produced PSAs, add that to the time period these were made in, and you got yourself one classic video!!!! (btw, WNBC was just as infamous for doing these overnight as well!)

I grew up in Vegas, which also had a few Carpeterias...I swear to you, my entire childhood was filled with these creepy Carpeteria women. Pretty sure the "Carpeteria Showroom" doubled as an entirely different kind of show at night!!

A couple of days after this, Johnson & Johnson would issue a national recall of Tylenol. Given that the first death had happened only a few days before, that's remarkably fast. I know when I go out for fine dining, I want to sit in a tiny closet. I think the Mormon PSA is the only ad in this entire set that cost more than $10 to make. I'm fairly certain the guy in the pet adoption PSA played the governor on Benson. Just how many people stick entire full saltshakers in their lunchboxes?

@lisamaria1972 No that was a later case. The police think the woman got the idea from the original Tylenol poisoning case from 1982.

@OzzieAstaroth Not really worth getting offended over. "Brains" is commonly used in a non-literal sense. Animals generally cannot manipulate fire and therefore do not have the "brains" to start a forest fire.

What is the name of the musical piece in the Norton Simon Museum commercial?! It's why I came here, it has been in the back of my head for years, and I love it. I've got to know!

Yes, and apparently she was prosecuted because her own daughter testified against her. There are now strong doubts about if she did it or not. Even people who were involved in the case say she probably didn't do it. The case was handled very badly and they paid the daughter a very large sum of money for her testimony which automatically makes her testimony suspect. I sure hope she did it, otherwise an innocent woman is rotting in prison right now.

I can't remember the woman's name but she put cyanide and anti-mold (or whatever it was for) granules that are used for fish tanks into numerous Tylenol capsules and somehow managed to put them back on the shelves. She had an ill husband who took some of these Tylenol and died shortly after.

@lisamaria1972 Pretty sure they've never had any serious leads on the case.

@kari00ws6 Given that LA has a surplus of out-of-work actors, you would think that even the makers of a low-budget PSA could afford to hire three competent ones.

Poor choice of words in that Forest Service PSA. The ones with the brains? I guess the animals in the forest don't have any.

Not much that I recognize here, as this was a late-night local program in California, and I'm not from there. Still interesting to watch, though. 0:00--Back when Family Feud was good! I used to love that show, but I can hardly stand the Steve Harvey version because it has become way too risque for my taste. Mercifully, Buzzr reruns older versions, although they are currently running in a bad time slot for me.

@kari00ws6 Yes it was. My thoughts exactly. Is this the best they could do for an alcohol PSA?!?!?! .....And that acting....ugh

The Mormons really pull out all the stop when it comes to advertising...where do they get all their money from?

I would think the LDS church would want to present the image that Mormons are normal people. That ad didn't do a very good job of it.

The KNBC announcer isn't a very fluent reader. I'd hate to have to listen to news read by him on a daily basis.
