These commercials aired on KVOS on November 11th, 1989. Because these aired in northern Washington State there are a few Canadian commercials. Apologies to those who might be offended.
1. "Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers" Commercial Bumper
2. Looney Tunes Happy Meal toys at McDonald's
3. Beach Blast Barbie (With Venus DeMilo, who was later on Nickelodeon's "Salute Your Shorts")
4. Libby's Alpha-Getti (Canadian product)
5. Micro Machines
6. Shriner's Hospital (With Pat Morita. As a child he had spinal tuberculosis and was hospitalized at the Shriner's Hospital in San Francisco)
7. "Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers" Commercial Bumpers
8. Cabbage Patch Kids with Growing Hair
9. Ring Raiders
10. Flying Fighters
11. Transformers Ultra Pretenders
12. Lite Brite (Now this is a classic. I ALWAYS wanted one of these as a kid but never got one. I guess I turned out OK)
13. "Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers" Commercial Bumpers
14. Hot Lixx (Of course when the black kid picks it up it turns into a funky bass guitar)
15. Lil Miss Dress Up
16. Squeezit
17. "Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers" Commercial Bumper
18. "Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers" End Credits
19. DC Comics Super Heroes/Batman Action Figures (I definitely remember seeing that Penguin figure warming the pegs in toy aisles as a kid. I had a few of the Batman figures, which incidentally were released by ToyBiz in the US)
20. Promo for "The A-Team"
21. "DuckTales" Commercial Bumper
22. Typhoon Hovercraft
23. Keypers
24. KVOS/Jr. Canucks Fan Club
25. "DuckTales" Commercial Bumpers
26. Squeezit
27. Jenga (I like the box art. Irwin Toys was a Canadian toy company and was the first company to release Jenga. In the U.S. Jenga was made by Schaper Toys, which was later bought by Hasbro...who now produces it worldwide)
28. Sweet Valley High Board Game (Learn how to become a back-stabbing ice queen)
29. "DuckTales" Commercial Bumpers
30. Post Raisin Bran (With the California Raisins!)
31. Nabisco Shreddies (Another Canadian product)
32. Sweetie Pups and Sweetie Kitties (LOL that cat looks angry and confused)
33. "DuckTales" Commercial Bumper
34. "DuckTales" End Credits
35. 3-Minute Ice Cream Maker
36. Tyco Turbo Hopper
37. Baby Shivers
38. Promo for "Dennis The Menace"
39. Zaks
40. Lego (Jack was soon ostracized by the other kids at his middle school and quickly became known as "that weird Lego kid")
41. Promo for "Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers"
42. "DuckTales" Commercial Bumpers
43. Oopsie Daisy
44. Barrel Of Monkeys
45. Corn Flakes

Love the vintage "Squeezit" bottles. Not nearly clear plastic, but also, not quite solid. And who else remembers twisting the top off, and sucking that little bit of juice left in the cap? Great group of commercials!

Really surprised there weren't any NES commercials on this block. That Lite-Brite commercial just kicked me right in the nostalgia :D

The Lite-Brite commercial was classic. I remember it being on TV in the early 1990s too. Side note: my sister had a “real” Lite-Brite and I had the poseur knock-off as a kid. While they were a lot of fun, those little pegs hurt if you were unfortunate enough to step on them.

Wow I remember the Alpha Geti commercial! I remember it because it was one of the commercials recorded on a VHS we had with Looney Tunes, Tiny Tunes, and America's Funniest Home Videos on it. Memories :)

Ah, the late 80s, when groups of rappers would just come into your home to explain how your kids can eat a certain cereal, then leave as abruptly as they showed up. Good times.

Yeah, I always hated when that happened. Another thing about the 80s - Ninjas were everywhere, and made no attempt to conceal themselves

Some goooood memories here. The Alpha-Bits commercial was hilarious. It's ages since it crossed my mind, but now it's like yesterday that I saw it...I must have seen it many times back when it aired.

I like the white cat in the 'sweetie kitties' ad- 11:38 - knows something is up and begins to narrow eyes in suspicion and disapproval, craning neck to better ascertain the approaching threat. 11:44 - slowly backing away and scanning for nearest exit.

The next morning the sweetie kitty is found on the front doorstep with all of the fur torn out of it...claw marks all over its decimated plastic body.

@7:19 I had that. It was perhaps even cooler than depicted in the commercial. The rechargeable NiCad batteries were a major bummer though.

That Sweetie Kitties jingle sings about how they look so real, yet they show one with unnaturally yellow fur... At 6:39 - Ooh, the Cola Cult Song. Whoever watched this show will always have this song stored in their brain. Feel the fizz!!

My sister said that sometimes, kids who weren't given everything they wanted turn out better than the kids who are given everything they want (especially after throwing a tantrum to get it). Though we did have a Lite Brite, but there were lots of toys we were denied (such as Play-Doh).
@aaronasher445
@aaronasher445 8 лет назад
Wait...did you just say that you were denied 'Play-Doh'?!? That's just cruel! No kid should ever be denied 'Play-Doh'! Just...NOPE.

Hmm, I'm from Massachusetts and I definitely remember seeing ads for toys from Irwin...I didn't know it was a specifically Canadian company - interesting to know! Obviously we're a northern state, but my town is still about 250 miles from Canada! In any case, I enjoy the mixture with Canadian ads in this volume, so totally not offended. ;)

I remember having both versions of the turbo train. The original ran on an actual model train type track and worked really well. The newer one was just a slot car set and the cars would never stay on the track.

That Tyco Typhoon looked pretty rad, but about two years too late for me. Anyone named Zack or Jack in school was a LEGO Maniac. Chip & Dale was a lot of fun! Another great Disney Afternoon show.

Oh boy, the Transformers Pretender line that was about the end of the original G1 toys. The cartoon had already been canceled and the comic was on its last legs. I believe the next year they had the action masters, which were transformers that couldn't transform and finished off the toy line until G2.

I had a P.J. Sparkles, only I called her "Peachy" Sparkles. I got her for Christmas in '89. My mom still has her. I don't understand Baby Shivers, though. Why would you want a doll that looks & feels like it's having a seizure?

Video Driver sorta reminds me of a game I heard about was in arcades called GP Race by SEGA, it was laserdisc footage of real tracks but overlaid with video game graphics (that sorta looked like Pole Position) somehow I don't recall ever seeing that toy though, it sounded neat! (but then probably couldn't compete with the NES so it probably disappeared in a hurry! digging these retro ads!

It's cool to guess whether the ad is going to be American or Canadian (odds are, if you never heard of it, it's Canadian, also the French words and the different toy companies help too) I will say being out west and having all the cartoons and kid's shows on crazy early must have SUCKED.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 8 лет назад
Even some of the ads originating in America have some different voiceovers here (The Twin Turbo Trains ad for example). Not sure what you mean about cartoons being on earlier in the west coast.
@DanZero77
@DanZero77 8 лет назад
This station was on Pacific Time and I saw an ad here that was having one at 11:00AM. Unless this was a Saturday? I was saying that in Pacific Time a lot of stuff would be on at a regular time in the east but then would be on 3 hours earlier out there.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 8 лет назад
Stations on the west coast don't air things three hours earlier than the stated time, unless it is live programming such as the news. If it says it aired at 11:00AM it aired at 11:00AM, not 8:00AM. That's why there are separate west coast and east coast feeds.

I'm a full-blown 80's kid and I honestly don't remember even hearing about 'Ring Raiders'. They must have been a come and go type of toy.

"Remember, if it doesn't say 'Micro Machines', it's not the real thing!" Was there some sort of copy cat's out there copying Micro Machines or something? Must've been.
@Vebinz

I'm in the minority, obviously, but I always preferred "Rescue Rangers" over "Duck Tales". better characters, better chemistry between them, better stories, better adventures, better dialogue, better comedy. Plus, Uncle Scrooge always struck me as kind of a jerk.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 8 лет назад
The early seasons of DuckTales that actually dealt with treasure hunting, globetrotting and real historical myths (all hallmarks of the classic Carl Barks Scrooge McDuck comics) are awesome. Once they introduced Bubba the caveduck and Gizmoduck the show went off the rails, turned into something else and fizzled out. I liked them both about the same as a kid, but Rescue Rangers definitely had better, more interesting characters. I think Gummi Bears beat both of them though, especially once it developed a less episodic serialized plot in the later seasons.
@Vebinz
@Vebinz 8 лет назад
Yeah, though as a kid I could never shake the feeling that Gummi Bears was just the Smurfs mixed with Asterix the Gaul, both of which I loved.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 8 лет назад
Gummi Bears as a general concept was definitely taking liberally from the Smurfs, but the writing far surpassed it. The episodes that specifically deal with the technology and history of the Great Gummis are better written than most Saturday Morning cartoons.
