These commercials aired on Music Television in October of 1983.
1. Mountain King (Incredible)
2. Safeguard (I'm simply fascinated by commercials like these)
3. Big Red (OMG at "Harmonize a little longer")
4. Cambridge Cologne
5. 1-800-HOT ROCK (I want a Free ZZ Top Keychain...)
6. The Greatest Hits Album (Easy listening "classics")
7. Pioneer
8. Wrangler (I'm...I'm pretty speechless)
9. Neil Young Pink Cadillac Contest
10. Panasonic Ambient Sound (With Earth, Wind and Fire!)
11. TV Spot for "Deal Of The Century"
12. Compound W (Nice Long Island accent there, wart girl)

Our brother Kevin Mitchell passed away recently-he is the blond guy in the Wrangler commercial with the girls pulling off his shirt.Kevin was best known as one of the pioneers who put his windsurfer in the barrel at Waddell Creek in Santa Cruz,CA.late seventies into early eighties. Before that (and after) Kevin was always an old school paddle-in surfer in monster surf and a ripping harmonica player...RIP brother..we'll be there droppin' in on the bombs with you one day.......

Mountain King and Pitfall 2 blew my mind on the 2600. They both had context-sensitive music cues.

Wow! MTV in its infancy, back when it WAS "Music Television"!

Blows my mind to see Neil Young doing a wacky promo ad for MTV.

This was when he had a contract with Geffen records. Later that year they actually sued him for releasing music that was "not commercial viable" and not sounding enough like himself: faroutmagazine.co.uk/neil-young-geffen-records-lawsuit-commercial/ iloveclassicrock.com/when-neil-young-was-sued-for-not-sounding-like-neil-young/

"Harmonize a little longer" was probably just for that ad only. I haven't seen it in other Big Red ads. I was -8 months old when these aired.

I was born just three short months before these aired...and it is SO weird to see music collection infomercials featuring vinyl. Strange to think that this was the norm when I was a baby...makes me feel old.

They were still offering 8-tracks in 1983? Huh. That Wrangler commercial is hilarious. I can't imagine anybody wearing Wranglers to the beach. I was 8 months old when these aired.

It was. Better cartoons, better TV in general, better toys. Being an 80s kid was fun.

BTW: My mom has that exact ZZ Top keychain. She bought at one of their concerts though not from a commercial promotion.

1-800-HOT-ROCK--the Amazon of 1983! If I was going to start a radio station that my mom would listen to, that Greatest Hit Album would be a good place to start. But really--leading off with the "Hill Street Blues" theme? I thought it was a TV themes album at first. Were those windsurfers windsurfing naked? And what was up with that odd blue color of the jeans? I don't think I've ever owned a pair of jeans quite that shade of blue.

1. Outstanding Atari game! From the company that also made Omega Race, with a custom controller. 6. Would love to have something shipped for $1 now. 11. Sure wasn't movie of the century.

Mountain King actually looks like a pretty cool game. I looked it up on Wikipedia and it sounds cool, too. A remake on the DS would be great.

0:00--I never owned that game, but I remember playing (and liking) it. Either a friend or a cousin of mine had it, and I played it when visiting them. I recall that it actually had 2 pieces of the "Peer Gynt" music--"In the Hall of the Mountain King" and "Anitra's Dance."

I know people with that ZZ top keychain...I tried that 1800 HOT ROCK number just now and it was a busy signal

It half sounded like the The Greatest Hits Album announcer had to yell over the songs for some reason

You're right, they do look very clear. Wonder what tape it was recorded on or if the same tapes were compiled. Also, is Music Television another way of saying MTV or another TV music station?

Is it just me...or the guy who sang for the Mountain King ad sounds a lot like Jack Black?

Music video artists use RU-vid now... why pay MTV to aire a vid? Thus, no more music on music televison.

Nobody would make a commercial like Big Red anymore. What the hell happened to Sessions?

1:00--One of the many great jingles used by Wrigley's over the years. I don't remember that "Harmonize a little longer" line either, but this is a very music-centric volume--probably because MTV was primarily a music video channel back then.

This is back when MTV played all videos. Today they play nothing but crappy Reality Shows.

Hard to believe that bar soap was ever a thing. I know they still make it, but I don't know anyone who uses it over liquid body wash and soft soap.

This is from around 20 years before body wash/shower gel was even a thing.

OK, I'll fess up. I have liquid soap in the kitchen, but bar soap is all I use in the bathroom.

Man! Soap commercials these days are like just watchin' a woman rubbin' it and latherin' up and then rinsing off, then she smiles and a product name comes up. This one just seemed so... one-off. I mean, she was really scrubbin' away. And she got in the shower way heck of fast. Was that their way of using sex to sell a product? :P
