These commercials aired on local ABC affiliate KGO on January 20th, 1985 during Super Bowl XIX. Thanks to my Uncle for recording these.
1. Super Bowl XIX Commercial Bumper (Presented by IBM, Miller Lite, Volkswagen and The National Dairy Board)
2. Promo for "Scandal Sheet" (Robert Urich getting some action and Ernie Anderson's voice makes this the manliest promo ever)
3. PSA Airlines
4. Ford
5. Promo for "Defiance" (Looks good LOL)
6. Super Bowl XIX Commercial Bumper (Brought to you by Ford, Computerland, Minolta and Northwestern Mutual Life)
7. Ford Thunderbird (With Joe Montana!)
8. Computerland
9. Pacific Bell
10. Toyota (With John Madden!)
11. Round Table Pizza
12. Volkswagen Jetta
13. Tylenol (This ad campaign was designed to regain public trust after the Tylenol murders in 1982)
14. IBM (Old men talking about computers? Not likely)
15. Promo for "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings"
16. Andes Creme de Menthe (OMG everything rhymes)
17. KGO Super Bowl Victory Bumper

Wow; I saw just about all the commercials from Super Bowl XIII a while back (spread out over several volumes), and here are more Super Bowl commercials! I can't help wondering if any of these were made specifically for the Super Bowl and aired just once, as is often the case nowadays. 0:50--I'm pretty sure PSA doesn't stand for "public service announcement" here--LOL! Pacific Southwest Airlines had a catchy jingle back then. 4:33--I love that Round Table Pizza commercial, even though I'm not familiar with that chain. I looked them up on Wikipedia and found out that they operate primarily in the West (I'm from Iowa; we don't have them here), but they're based in Atlanta, Georgia! 5:33--Tylenol still came in capsules in 1985? I thought they discontinued those after the cyanide scare a couple years earlier.

I loved the "Scandal Sheet" promo! I agree that Robert Urich's action and Ernie Anderson's voice makes it so manly!

Peter Jennings was the best. His coverage of 9/11 was inspiring.

Remember when people were dancing in the streets when the home PC had a whopping 8K memory? Lol.

That's the Golden Gate at the beginning, the Bay Bridge is a double decker. I'm not saying it doesn't have a lot of traffic, but everything would've been especially crazy that day, as the Super Bowl was held over in Stanford. All that traffic is going south.

@MeInTX This isn't every ad that aired that year. My uncle skipped several breaks.

PSA: We got to be tough (and not charge any ridiculous fees) to make you smile! Notice how we don't get these "people working hard" airline ads anymore!!! Defiance DID look like a good movie! at 9PM right after the Super Bowl in the Pacific Time Zone!!! Must have been nice to watch TV out there, sometimes!

Update to my previous comment.... Thanks to that little promo for "Defiance", I was able to find it on Hulu! Watched the whole thing..... kinda predictable in parts, but not too bad. Featured Jan Michael Vincent, Danny Aiello, and the wife from ABC's "The Commish". Good to pass the time! Thanks 80sCommercialVault! :D

imagine being able to say that one news anchor was better than the other. that was stated rather bluntly, lol

Those pacific bell ads are serious business.

I've heard those types of "old men talking about computers" conversations at Denny's. In that case it was smartphones, but similar idea.

was this before the age of the multi-million dollar theatrical super bowl commercials? these just seem like regular ads to me

I have to agree with the earlier poster who said these were all kind of humdrum for the Super Bowl. They're nice ads, but no random celebrities, no giant production values, no wacky punchlines. The only ad that truly seemed like a Super Bowl ad was the Volkswagen one. I guess the full impact of Apple's ad from the previous year hadn't sunk in yet. I take that back slightly. The Apple ad seemed to lead to a whole bunch of computer ads this time around, though IBM's was pretty forgettable.

Damn look at the traffic on the Bay Bridge! Remind me again why I'm moving there? Whats with all the computer ads? I guess the mid 80's where when they really started pushing the home PC.

@Boogeyman80 the home computers were what brought us out of a depression companies and households were buying them like crazy thus all the ads

Could have been stock footage, but I think it's very likely a live shot, or at least recorded earlier that day.

Yeah Golden Gate I meant. I've been staring at too many bay area maps. I forgot this was the year the 49ers had a home Super Bowl game at Stanford. You think that was a live shot though?

3:01--Wow; Computerland! They were everywhere back in the 1980's. Sadly, they seem to have gone the way of Radio Shack (and the passenger pigeon).

35. And the Super Bowl hasn't been worth watching for the game since 1996, the last time my Cowboys were there.

Oh, hell yes. Five stars for this one. This was the first Superbowl I remember watching. 24 years later and the Dolphins still suck.
