Next thing you know they'll be talking about having a computer send me actual physical products without ever having to talk to a person, unless something goes hideously wrong.

8:10 mark, my wife & I got a set of those same type and color bowls the mother is holding in the commercial, as a wedding gift in December 1991. Next month will be our 30th anniversary and we still have and use those bowls.

Any commercial that features the beautiful Christie Brinkley in any volume is always welcome. She really had a good laugh after getting drenched at the end. Gotta remember to stay hydrated with good, clean purified water.

I wasn't born until January, 84, but The Day After still has to be the scariest movie I have ever tried to watch. It came on TV Land once and I ended up having to turn it. I won't even touch Testament or Threads with a ten foot pole!

I've gotta a couple months of age on ya, but I'd bet we were the same grade in school. I remember doing bomb drills until 2nd grade. We would get under our desk and cover our heads as the siren went off. Between that movie and the schools drills, I was scared to death.

My family's first VCR was a Betamax. My brothers and I recorded a lot of movies off of the pay movie channels back in the day. Also probably taped some movies I probably shouldn't have back when I was 8 or 9, such as the original Police Academy and Revenge of the Nerds movies. Still, we held onto that thing, and didn't upgrade to VHS until the late 80s when it broke down.

well the Beta vs VHS war was still ongoing from this point until the late 80s, when it was clear that VHS had established dominion over the magnetic video-tape space. Wouldn't be until DVDs proliferated before it was successfully brought down like 10 years later relative to your timeframe.

Mine was a Betamax, too. It still works and I still have some episodes of cartoons from 1985 on a tape. It was hard to find a video store with movies on Beta, though.

The twins in the Doublemint ad are Liz & Jean Sagal. Younger sisters of Katy Sagal. They had their own show called Double Trouble in 1984.

Black & Decker Dustbuster-would always joke about these being the inspiration for Star Trek TNG's phasers Arrid Extra Dry-Sam leaped into a deodorant ad..oh boy! Hart To Hart-that car couldve used some of James Bond's gadgets

I have/had the HotWheels police car they briefly show in the panning shot of that McDonalds commercial. But I got mine from a box of cereal around 1988/89.

Black And Decker Dustbuster- I like how the announcer in this commercial's voice sounds like a cross between the announcer from the Smucker's Jellies and Preserves commercials and Arnold Stag (Who voiced the Honey Nut Cheerios honey bee mascot).

Beta failed because Sony was trying to corner the market on the technology and every release had to go through them. It was superior tech but inferior business planning. They didn't learn their lesson but succeeded when Blu Ray came along.
