This time on American Viscountess, I’m visiting the beautiful Elmore Court in Gloucestershire. Elmore Court is a glorious sixteenth century historic house on the edge of the Cotswolds - this site has been home to the Guise family since the thirteenth century. Anselm Guise has a very bold vision for Elmore’s future and is opening the house and estate to visitors in a completely inspiring way. Elmore is literally going back to its roots, or I might say, going wild. Join me as I visit some amazing new tree houses and the rewilding project out on the estate.

Thank you, Team Julie, for sharing this story. Years ago, I saw the current custodian as a struggling new heir. He has done a great job and thank you for the update. If you get a chance, I'd like to see how Lullingstone Castle and World Garden is doing. The next heir was also struggling to preserve the family pile. A likeable fellow with incredible vision, work ethic and passion for plant life.

Hi Julie,! A great video! I had another idea. In addition to the Mapperton/Devon Fiddler's Contest, I thot it might be fun to rent the Fairytale Cottage as a package deal with a wedding at Mapperton. It could be a Honeymoon Cottage! What do you think? I was also thinking that if you have a wide hillside for people to sit on, you might have a natural amphitheater where you could have classical music orchestras performing on summer evenings, or present Greek and Shakespearean plays? You'd need bathrooms, parking, a sound system up the hill, and a nearby tent for drinks and snacks/ or emergency service in case of accidents. And you would get a nicer crowd than you would have with a Woodstock Festival situation. And what about First Saturday concerts at Mapperton for wind or string quartets, Madrigal group from Oxford, etc. every month?

So interesting and educational. I live in an area in New York where we cannot stop our town counsel from approving developers who are taking away our wetlands and encroaching on the wildlife. It makes me so mad!!! Thank you for sharing these videos.

My township in NJ is the same. It’s so sad and pisses me off soooo much! Plus the houses are typically plastic and poorly made. In our historical town, they allow brand new plastic siding houses & it takes away from the historical look of the town. If I had the money, I’d buy all the land and leave it wild!

I love the light-colored interior of so many rooms at Elmore Court! Its so bright and airy and welcoming and spacious! It looks fresh and clean. It seems he took a lesson from Martha Stewart color combinations. Very nice! The light walls really let the contents of the rooms stand out and speak for themselves. What a wonderful change from the Country House Rescue days! I really have to say, Well done!

Hi Julie, First I want to make" just be quit and be still" my mantra! I love how preserving the land and rewilding, (just like Julie and Luke are doing.) is so very important and to preserve Elmore court. What makes me so mad as an American, we seem not to care about climate change, not to care about preservation, if there is a buck to be made everything else be damned. I have read so much on the Cotswold's; everyone should be lucky to visit. This was such a great learning curve, thank you so much for introducing us to Anslem and all his good work. Love from N.Y.

this makes me feel so much better about my own rewilding project in my urban NZ backyard lol - it's always been organic but every time I have to show it to people and say, I haven't been gardening it lately... But it's long been full of birds, butterflies, bees and every other creature that sees an opportunity, and the natives just self seed and that brings in the native birds. They all know where to find my house in the middle of town.

Hello, I hope you will be able to see and explore Traquair House in Scotland- it's so magical. I stayed the night there and it was fantastic. I also stayed in Thornbury Castle in England Tudor history was incredible . I hope you can tour one of these for your channel. Love what you are doing for people to see that may not be able to travel or maybe give them an idea to come to Britain to check out the wonderful history, I've been 3 times now. And next time I hope to come to Mapperton to see your beautiful estate and to hopefully see my name on the Alberta project plaque. 😀

I'd like to suggest another market for the Elmore House tree houses: Tibetan Buddhists and Buddhists in general! We are always looking for quiet, removed places exactly like that where we can do three-month-long meditation retreats, or longer! If the tree houses have kitchens, great! The only problem is groceries. Could Elmore House offer grocery runs to retreatants? We need help with that, because we take vows of place and are not supposed to leave the retreat location. Contact the Tibetan groups in Britain and Scotland. If the cottages are affordable, they will be filled right away! If you have a large room, and sleeping, eating arrangements for a group, you could have meditation retreats for all traditions. Think about this. Its a crowd of good people.

What a ridiculous thing to say. She can do whatever she wants with her appearance and no one with a brain in their head should ever think it’s necessary or appropriate to dictate how someone else should present themselves. We must stamp out this horrid, ignorant, casual yet deep seated sexism, and the idea that it’s ok to tell people how they must look.
