8000 Miles to Alaska: A Journey Along the World's Longest Border | Free Documentary Nature
Watch 'Newfoundland - On the Shores of Canada's Most Spectacular Coast' here: • Newfoundland - On the ...
What is America? Just a huge, spacious and naturally wild country - or is it still a project? And who are the Americans? A torn nation of people without roots and history - or more than all of this? What unites, what divides, what characterises and what changes them? How different are their daily lives, even now, in the icy cold, snowbound winter - depending on whether they live on Maine's remote outer islands, or in arctic Deadhorse, near the Great Lakes or in the prairies of the mid-West, in the Blackfoot reservation in the Rocky Mountains, or on board a yacht from Seattle?
To discover America's characteristics and their transition - always with a view to the people and how they perceive "home" - Klaus Scherer travels through his host country on a route hitherto neglected by previous reporters: along the north border. Thus, a program event is created, whose highly visual landscape and nature photographs, along with personal experiences, connect with those we meet, visit and accompany along the way - from the dwarf school on Monehegan Island, to the head gaffer of the Niagara Falls; from wolf and bear monitors in Idaho, to the ice fishers at the Arctic Circle.

To Discover America's soul, America's people, America's traditions, its character - our reporter Klaus Scherer travels through the United States on a route hitherto neglected by most of his colleagues: 8000 Miles to Alaska from East to West along the Northern Border to Canada. This documentary conjures up an event of breathtaking landscapes, untouched nature, along with personal encounters of the human and the animal kind. There are some friendly bears there. And friendly people too. Our reporter helps answer the eternal question: what is America? More than just endless stretches of land between some of the coolest cities on the coasts - east and west. There are cool people in between too. Reporter Klaus Scherer delves into the issues that unite and divide a people with many different roots, backgrounds and life-styles. How different daily lives can be - living in the icy cold, in sparsely populated farmlands or on a yacht along the shores of Seattle.

Your reporter is not even American! And he just insulted 90% of the Alaskan people! We are not "GUN FREAKS!" We have less gun crimes than the lower 48 and are more responsible. We have never had any kind of shootings and other garbage like down there. And do you know why? Because most Alaskans are armed, people tend not to want too rob, steal, and murder honest hard working people who pay taxes, own their homes, and work for everything they INSTEAD OF HAVING IT HANDED TOO THEM! Stop with conditioning of the masses. Next time if there is a next time, have a real Alaskan do the narrating, you will an honest look at what Alaska truly is, instead of labeling us all a bunch of "gun freaks". I thought this a documentary, not an attack on Alaskan Freedom.

I loved this documentary. We, in the comfort of our homes in the lower 48, do not realize how good we have it. We complain about the cold, price of gas, whatever we can find to complain about and the native Alaskans are the opposite. They are thankful for every little thing. Bless them and their strength.

Not just native born Alaskan’s appreciating what we got up here! Best fishing, scenery, wilderness, wildlife, lifestyle, low crime, clean air on earth! Take a poll, ask Alaskan residents if they born up here! Most weren’t! Most moved from other states, realized how unique and awesome it is and stayed!😳😳😉

Native populations almost always have the use of their own lands right on with what mother earth would have done it herself.becuse they have had thousands of years to get it right.... right is what makes natural processes do better for themselves, and 🚫 especially for mankind, native people and plants, and animals, people being in the animal group. The last member to join all of the rest only so recently. Within the last 100,000 years. Human beings are the newest thing to be placed on earth. As it's own secret entity. But, everything on planet earth has to get along in harmony with all others needs to. Or will never work long enough to bring peace back to my seriously sick planet. And the only way to save it. Is to save it All,, or it's no going to work.

I think the word « losing » is narcissistic a bit.. not too much… a bit… he should’ve said « we learn in time, what time learn to us » because losing is something hard for everyone, learning is something everyone can accomplish and we together as humans needs to learn that we need to save the earth. we need to learn therefore we will accomplish. haha im weird sometimes

We need to learn how to listen to each other, learn how to love, we need to learn how to trade with each other equally, learn the respect, learn how to treat each other equally, I pass on a lot but we will with time learn all of this, I don’t think we will ever lose anymore 😌

I liked the documentary however, I feel the narrator calling hunters "gun freaks" around the 54 minute mark was unnecessary. There is no reason to put that in there only to offend the outdoor type of people that are more willing to watch this kind of documentary.

We need more people to get involved in ensuring that the Breed of the Horses survive. Because like other animals that have become extinct. Once their gone their gone. Nice production and love the people up there in Monhegan and all the other stops along the way. The correspondent on the other hand seems to make the subjects of the questions uncomfortable for some reason. The way he asks the questions or something---- feels condescending by their reactions. I have a tough benchmark---Charles Kuralt----he traveled the country especially rural---- and people always responded so warmly to him no matter his question because they could feel his genuine respect and interest in them and the unique way they lived...never felt they were being judged. Sorry I am judging the correspondent/interviewer but just had to be honest.
