Sixty-nine retired and been thinking of my two-door post 55 I had from when I was fourteen ($250.00) til Nam. Worked in the pits at the Puyallup 1/4 mi. drags outside of Tacoma, Wash. Did you go... Nam, that is? Damn Nixon, wouldn't classify the conflict to being a war, so never got the funding we really needed.

Awesome video. My grandpa had a 55 with the blue flame motor. I got it after my grandma couldn’t drive anymore. Used to beat the stock 65 mustangs from light to light. Fun times.

This car and the "haunted rod" are two of the most badass cars I've ever seen. There's really nothing I don't love about them. Must be a tri-5 thing...or the pain work...or the drive train. I recently saw a 1956 Cadillac Series 62 sedan for sale and the first thing I thought was how awesome it would look/drive with the kind of treatment you've given yours. Of course, I don't have that kind of money, so it's just a dream, but it makes me smile thinking about it.

My Buddy in high school bought a '55 Chevy. It was a crowd pleaser. Turquoise and white two tone, with a 327, four speed. I had a '69 Camaro, 327, with a turbo 350 (after I took out the two speed power glide) . He graduated 1978. I graduated 1979. We had so much fun building and street racing our cars. He still has his '55 Chevy. I still have the 350 race motor I swapped in for New England Dragway racing. I remember that movie "Hollywood Knights" . It came out in 1980 while I was in U. S. Coast Guard machinery tech school in Yorktown, VA. I must have seen that movie three or four times when I'd get a liberty pass and get off base . Definitely takes you back. Cool '57 Steve. Thank you for sharing.

I was the same. My dad had a 57 but I wasn’t born yet to enjoy being in it. We still owned it but it was wrecked. So I said I would own one someday. So I do. I got mine when I was 12 years old and was tore down so I could redo it but I didn’t have the money to put it together. So I covered it up and parked it in the yard. Then when I turned 16 my parents talked me into getting a cheap car to put together. So to make the story short a tree fell on my 57. And I have been gathering parts for it. I am trying to fix it now but I am 43 now and my son just had a massive stroke and I just had neck surgery so I don’t have the time or the money right now. But I will build it some day. Awesome video. Just welder up.

My stepdad had a 57 Chevy , he was a paperboy in bel air and Beverly Hills back in the late 50’s we lived in the valley, he bought that car brand new from his tips as a paperboy, I can’t remember the movie stars h delivered to but there was a few big ones, we left the valley in 64 for San Jose, he always promised me that car when I got to 16, it sat in the driveway for years, I was allowed to move it around in the driveway, when I was 10, 11, 12 years old I would take parts off that car and clean em and paint em, I loved that car, once and awhile my mom would let me camp out in the back seat, just typing this now brings back all those memories, well my stepdad also found the bottle up there in San Jose, turned out to be a major drunk, he sold that car on my 15th birthday for 300 bucks, I hated him for that, things got real bad from there, he beat me he stabbed me, treated my mother like shit, he was also a hell’s angel, finally his club stepped up and straightened his ass out, the last we heard about him he drank himself to death back in 89, my mom ended up with the Sargent of arms and has been happy ever since, me I never got over that day on my 15th birthday

Ill never forget my first automotive love. Some distant relatives of mine had a 57 chevy with a blower roll cage and wide wide wide tires out back. I was chasing chickens around the barn when they cranked it up. I thought the world was coming to an end! I covered my ears and ran around to the front of the barn. I swear the sides of the barn caved in when that thing reved up! The earth was moving under my feet and i felt like i was being punched in the chest. I didn't hesitate at the chance for a ride. The g force pinned me back in the seat and all i saw was the sky. I was hooked and all il did was draw 57s with big blowers everywhere. I got in trouble for trying to draw a lifesized version in the hallway. My mom was cool about it and put up a huge piece of paper so i didn't have to clean the wall again. That moment started my passion for hot rods and all things fast.

TLDC: Our father bought a 57 Bel Air as his first car. Got kicked out of his house for buying it. Got drafted. His dad sold it for a tenth of what he wanted for it while he was in the Army. Got back home and found out the car was destroyed a week prior to returning, so it couldn't be bought back. Just this year, 2022, learned his 57 had a super HOT hotrod motor. So here's the 57 Bel Air Chevy story as i know it, of my pops. Crazy that I stumbled across this video in the same week that i just learned a wild addition the my dads, already crazy 57 Chevy story. Alright, started off he worked some hardass labor to save up to buy it off a guy in his neighborhood. He was 17, so 1967-68ish. Him and his dad couldn't stand each other already, so when my dad decided to buy this car, his dad told him to sell it or move out. They grew up poor. He said that his dad had already ripped him off a few times money wise. But our dads theory is "If you want something you get out and earn it" and thats what he did, so he was out of there. Idk what engine it had but he told me that after he "dropped that hotrod small block Chevy in, that car couldn't lose! Blew the doors off the whole town. Never once lost" Well pops gets Army drafted in 69. My grandmother wrote to my dad every single day he was over there. He's over there and gets a letter about how his dad wants to sell the car. Obviously reluctant, he finally agreed but dont sell it for any less than $3,000. It sells. Pops barely makes it back alive on crutches. Gets back to his hometown and finds out that his dad only got $300 for his car.... Told me his dad even said "First guy that showed up bought it"........ So here's my dad, F'ed up from the war. Mentally and physically. Then this added salt in the wound. He finds out who bought the car and where this guy lives. Gets a ride over there to try and buy it back and learns that this guys garage burnt down the week before my dad got back.... He said he pulled up to the house and saw his old car burnt to the ground sitting there. Straight up nightmare. More back story. Our dad was a very closed off guy. Only told us what he wanted us to know. But through the years ive learned about some of his skeletons via other people. Just this week I was talking to a childhood friend of his, about car and dads beloved 57 got brought up. Guy said " I still can't believe Ronny (my dad) told us he was going to break into Miller Chevrolet (no relation) and steal that motor, and then went and did it." I had never heard this detail here. So just now learned that when our dad referred to dropping in that hotrod small block chevy engine, that it was actually an engine that was on display at a dealership to showcase the new Small Block400 coming out. Drove it for no more than a couple months before leaving for war. The timeline of when the 400 came out, checks out. Makes sense that back then they'd have an actual engine out for display. And also, dads friend who just told me this has always been a seemingly credible guy. I think i believe it. Planning an engine heist isn't going out and earning it. But i do know that our dad had a few shady stories he was part of. And he was more of a do as i say, not as i do type, too. Yea, dudes kinda a POS for that, but thats a wildass story about a 57. He never did get another 57 in his lifetime either. Thanks for reading. And thanks @welderup for all the awesome content

@@WelderUpVegas Truly is. Probably the perfect title to his biography honestly. He did get a 37 chevy coupe off a friend in the 70s and went all out at that time. Built for street racing. Then knocked my mom up with my older sister. He left Cali with the 37, a 67 stingray, and my prego mom. Seems like becoming a father made his lose interest completely in the car game. Those cars have been sitting in his garage/barn in the same spot my whole life. Seeing them is what sparked my desire to be a car guy. Even though he never wanted to get them going again while we could, Im hoping to do something cool with that 37. Needs that patina paint job IMO. But he did drive it in there, so as they say "Ran when parked" lol But its exactly how he left it. Kinda torn on changing much. True barn finds

57 Chevy Bel Air is my dream car. Turquoise and white was the color of my Grandmas 57. My Uncle totaled it in the early 80s knocking his teeth out and fracturing bones in his face. Wow that’s an impressive 57! I inherited my father’s turquoise hard top two door bel air - was his pride and joy. Unfortunately sat for 15+ years without running and needs a lot of work. Used to be a show winner in its heyday. My father bought it for 20 bucks with a straight six when he got back from Vietnam. It went through a few builds before he was happy with it. It made him giggle like a kid when he drove it. I have it now, a few bucks to put into it, and it’ll be on the road as soon as I can get it ready.

Cut the rear fenderwells (in a tastefull arc) and had 15x10 cragers out back. I lived near Portland Ore, and took it to trade school in Arizona. Came out one morning and found it gone. Man, this gives me inspiration for my 56 Chevy 210 4dr that I saved from the junk yard (first car). Still not entirely sure what I wanna do with it, main thing is just getting it drivable before school is out.

Great that you're enjoying your 57. Just saying though, you need to study the 57s more, like what body styles were, available in what series, if you are going to 'teach' , then know the lesson! Great car! Brought back some great memories! I drove a Inca Silver and Imperial White 2-door sedan Bel-Air in high school. (!969!) First of a LONG line of 57s. Keep on keepin' on!

Hello dude my Mom and Dad drove in a 1955 Buick Roadmaster. Wow guess what I still have the Buick Roadmaster. Mom and dad went to church shopping with the car. There's a lot of memories with this car 35 years had this car gonna keep if I had the money I would like to change things around. . But little bit at a time thanks again for your great stories. Great burnouts. Have a nice day today 😎😀

Went to high school in the early 60's one friend had a 57 Ford Fairlane he stuffed a 352 FE into, his dad owned a speed shop and the 57 was cherry. My other friend had a 57 Chevy Bel Air, aqua color fuel injection, a really cool car. Guess which on I liked cruising in, yea the Bel Air, it was a chick magnet and it would "burn some rubber" all the way down the block! It was just a too cool bad ass car for a high school kid to drive around in back then. I like your 57, too cool. I don't think you would ever find two 57's alike. Everyone puts their own spin on them in one way or the other, weather it's a rat rod custom classic, Gasser, restomod or a fully restored car. 57's will live on forever.
