This shows us that despite being hit by an 800mm shell, the hatch is still intact. Thereby, I propose an upgrade to make the entire front plate with Stalinium.
ah yes, so that the moment the shell hits the front plate, it crumples and crushes the entire tank behind it, you'd have to make a box out of it or one point will crumple
Igor: I think there's an 800mm shell coming our way. Petrov: Haha, can't you think of anything more stupid to want to scare me? 800mm Shell: Here I am T-34 and the crew: mom help us ..
It'd be interesting to see a closeup of that. I imagine the ballistic cap isn't powerful enough to punch through on its own but still energetic enough to deform the sloped ufp. So basically you push the drivers hatch through the Armor as a path of least resistance. It would've most likely shattered after hitting the engine and the solid core of the shell catching up though.
IRL something similar happened - german 37 mm AT guns tore those hatches from their fittings and flew with them into crew compartment. The reason for it was the fact that hatch (and +-5 cm of armor around it) was one huge weak spot due to welding implemented.
Giving me PTSD from how indestructible these hatches were on War Thunder. When you read historically German ANTI Tank Gunners would aim for the driver hatches, yet on War Thunder even with a Tiger Tank you know to avoid the hatch. The devs went the polar opposite on how strong these hatches were.
Hatches and view ports on all tanks act weird take the Tiger's driver and machine gun ports both I have personally see bounce apfsds due to players taking them into high BR battles just to troll. Sherman machinegun ports both normal ones and E2 variants are a gamble sometimes a shell will go right through othertimes a shell will bounce even if it is a shell that normally has enough pen to just go clean through any spot of the front plate. Then you have things like the r3 t20 that have no armor that will occasionally bounce shells off the windshield which makes antisense.
Ive eaten a 122 with the Tiger 1's driver port....just as I've survived a FAB 5000 in the Jagdtiger. So too will It bounce my Tiger 2's long 88 from point blank range
I'd love to see a P-800 missile vs the battleship Iowa main belt. (Not an armor piercing shell, but it's doing Mach 2.5 and has a 700 lb warhead) A harpoon and 360 mm AP shell for comparison would be cool as well.
it won't make much damage. There isn't any modern conventional weapon can destroy Iowa/Yamato through its belt in a single hit except for the bunker buster bomb
That's why I kept cringing back in my firefighting days. Imagine the cool israeli bulletproof door (Structurally built to be bulletproof from one side only, you can return fire through), defeated in 3 sledgehammer hits and one crowbar nick. And it's a weekly occurrence.
@@CAHiredGun I don't know exact manufacturers. All I know is that these are sourced from Israel and these are easily punctured if you do it from the right side, with chunks yeeting off. Do it from the other side, however, and you get what you expect from metal.

800mm shell all like "Oh hey, dont mind me, just passin through." crew: "(whatever sound bodies being turned into instant particulate sticky mist make)"
"As you can see comrades, when the shell hit the hatch,a wave pulsed through tank, transporting crew temporarily to a pocket dimension before the shell could fully penetrate the glorious soviet tank, that is why we see no crew inside when the metal was getting ruptured, though the tank is destroyed, the crew is safe."
