80486 DX2 Computer Startup 

Heh, I still have a 486BL-75 tower and an SX-25 desktop, both running as DOS gaming rigs. They're quite awesome machines, perfect examples of the saying, "They don't make 'em like they used to."

I like those old WD CAVIARs. These are my favourite Drives!

This was my first computer I ever had. We gave it to a smll store accross the street from where I live (about 10 years ago). The store owner took it too the dump yard when the closed a few weeks ago. It was still fully working right up until a few months before they closed.

yeah. 486's were really revolutionary PC's. Unfortunately, my first PC was Celeron900 with XP. That's why I'm so interested with old PC's.

Nice vid. I still own my 486SX/25 I bought in '92 for around $1395.

I remember my old Ultra brand 486 processor computer with Windows 95 and a total of 12mb of ram. Should've never tossed it. I do still have a compaq with a pentium pro. 88mb of ram.

@Eep386 Yep. I've got an old 540MB Conner that started out on a 386, and it's still going in my 486 today. :D

220 watts psu, wow thats huge for 1994, thats like getting a 2000 watts psu today

i don´t know why, but i like loud computers... i love the loud noises of my wd black drives, and of all those fans in my pc

What modern modern distributions in general, and how well could it do? Could you pull off things like playing videos? I wouldn't have guessed.

I think I've tried DSL before on my '97 Pentium II 233. I don't think it would do any videos if I tried, but I don't know for sure, though.

Oh the days of the 486 66MHZ, 16 megs of RAM and 120MB HDD. Wolfenstein 3D flew on that machine. Most of you don't even know what its like to surf at 2400.

lol I remember when 4mb was a lot, in my day you were rich if you had a 486 dx, most of us had 386 dx's or 486sx 25mhz. I remember upgrading to 2mb and then 4mb. It was like this for years then all of a sudden everything just went crazy and people had 256mb, then 512, then 1gb! I think it was the pentium that really started things off.

If you increase the RAM to 24 to 32 megabytes that 486 will really work well.

I think that 5.25" drive would be a 1.2 MB drive (HD) or a 360 kB (DD)

i have this same computer, but i somehow got it to run xp very slowly!!!

@elzabbul well, that's called not cheating, but upgrading :P I have connected 80 gb hdd to it, discoverable by bios) can't remember if win95 was able to see it.

no, there is no partitions, only two HDD, and he use all ~2540 MB. And I dont know really, what version of win95 is there)

Of course, not In all cases :) This PC can't handle 80gb hdd or 512mb RAM because he is too old. But really, this PC isn't really very old. 8086 or 8080 - that is really old.

where do you see Cd-Rom there ? And what can hadle PC is depends only on Motherboard.

I think, he is not lowder then a IBM server at 100% coolers :D

i have got 1 exactly the same and myne runs xp profesional verry verry slow but i find it a grate challange to doo something with thees old pcs like put 80 gb hard drives and 500 mb of ram up there ass if thats posible but not in some kases lol

try upgrading the ram to atleast 32 mb (64 or higher will be better) and install Windows 2000.... it will probably install/boot :-)
