Bravo ! Excellent review. Maybe i missed it, but how long does the battery last of the 808 #16 before needing charge ? Recording video without audio or with audio ? Thanks again for the review.
Pierre ARBOUR About 20 minutes I think. Not sure if turning off the audio helps at all. Some people use an external power source and replace the battery with a special capacitor to make it last longer. You can look it up on RCgroups.
Just received a #16 camera today and when you plug it into computer for charging the red light comes on but if you push the power button you will get a green light charging took about 1 hour.
Nice video, and nice hobby shop! I am very much not a fan of the fisheye effect caused by wide angle lenses. That effect just makes it look like stuff is wobbling and distorting constantly.
Great demo I'm glad I got the A lense. I've seen this same result from mobius. This picture looks as good as the Mobius and Gopro comparison video of their back to bad they left out a camera for the comparrison. I think these for the money are just fine. I like motion activation for surveilance purposes but hey just buy a bigger card and start it up and walk away. A 16Gb should get you well into 3 hours. Before we find out if the batteries are going to die. The have a 6 day stand by. The Night Owl 808 #16 has alot different setup on the buttons kinda weird. Some of the other things you metioned didn't apply either. Can you use Windows 8.1 with yours ? I can't thought that was weird also! Since we're moving into WIN9 already.
Today I ended up ordering the Mobius for it's 1080p capability, I've been pretty impressed with that cam from the preview vids, hopefully in practise too when it arrives.
I think Im gonna be happy with the A lens 808s that i have coming.. i bought 4 at 3.29 each from china.. i dont know if there is such thing as a knockoff with these? Seems like they are all about the same.. just some sellers pay youtubers to give bad reviews to the cheaper ones so they can sell theirs which is the exact same thing for 35.00
I like the A lens for the aerial use. I'm kicking myself now for not getting one of these earlier. I lost a glider in a wooded area and need one to do a fly over and try to locate it using my Bixler. It rained hard last night so it is probably toast now anyway. Chartered a sightseeing plane a long time ago to find a downed rc plane in the woods and it worked, was cheap to charter back then.
Great review. I am getting the #16 V3 with the D-lens and also a separate B-lens in case I want to have a narrower field of view with a little more detail. After a little research, I realized that the "lenses" are actually the lens and the CCD chip in a single unit that is plugged in to the circuit board with all the rest of the electronics on it. So when you purchase a different "lens" you are getting a whole new and different imaging chip and optics respectively.
***** Yes that is true about the lens including the CCD. This is good. Have you looked at buying the Mobius camera. They are 1080p res and very popular.
***** Thanks. I looked at the Mobius and it is definitely a step up from the #16. However, since I am still a relative newbie and am going to do a lot of flying, experimenting and tinkering with the constant potential for damage or destruction, I thought that I would just keep things a little simpler and cheaper for now.
***** is it possible to unscrew the lens itself only? and swap without unplugging the whole ccd module... i'm about to try this using the lens from a syma x5c-1 whos module i damaged trying to lengthen focus. just wondering if you tried changing the lens alone? or is changing the whole module very easy?
Great, glad I already bought the D a few weeks ago for FPV. Now just waiting for my Dragonlink to get to me in 1-2 weeks. Great job!!! Oh, lets see what Bruce has to say about the DL??!! Seems we are hooked up to the same channels...
Yes I think that's the reason, I think the A lens is a no go on this cam now with the B & D available, the only problem I think I might have with D is that objects in the field of view seem futher away than they actually are.
dmerc00....thank you for providing us with your very informative video on those 808 #16 keychain cameras. I'm waiting for mine to be delivered later from New Jersey. The D version is one I wanted but after watching your A-lens video I may opt to Order that one from China so I'll look at the price/shipping. The extra effort that put in to show the difference in the lenses was much appreciated. I also like your Bixler pusher, I also fly RC using the HK Walrus, ASW28 big 8' wing and the Phoenix-2000. I want to mount the 808 on my Syma quad X5SC-1 to replace the stock camera which from what I have read has poor quality and a very "down angled" attachment. Thank you again.....Ron (Maine)
Hi, I used to live in Mass and went to college in Maine so I know the area. Now in VA. The 808 #16 is still a great little cam when you need something light weight for small aircraft where the Mobius type is too heavy. The 806 A lens has less curvature than the D so makes a better video unless you have to have the wider angle of the D. Just get both :-)
for me, maybye the D lenses good for rc airplane, glider, etc. but the A lenses may good enaugh to use for aerial vids with toy grade or some other drone. That Is wahat I think, thank you.
Hello friend, I am also looking to improve the viewing angle of this camera and got a good result using two fisheye lenses attached, I am now giving a final finish in one of the lenses for the vision to be completely clean. I'm using two jelly lens fish eye green. Thank you for information.
I have the wide angle lens. The whole lens came unglued from the body and now the picture is just blurry when I try to put it back into place. I think the problem was trying to pull the tight lens cap off ended up braking the attachment to the camera body. Now the camera is useless. If I ever buy another it will be with the narrow field of view. I don't much like that view when it would be mounted on my quad copter but I think there is to big of risk with the other lense coming loose and making the camera useless.
dheller777 That has not happened to me yet but it's been a while since I made this video and now I am using the mobius and RunCamHd cameras instead. The 808 is still good sometimes because it is lighter for small planes and helis.
This is where I need your opinion to assess the final outcome of my project, so I got great results but would like to ask you what you think. See my videos 56 and 57 and give me a note for this experiment, see the previous videos if you want to see from where he started the opening angle lens Thanks again for the information and sorry for the typos, I'm using google translator. Bye ...
