Do you remember Lionel Playworld ? I still remember the whole thing that my Shera talking toothbrush said 😆 " Im Shera, Princess of Power I protect Crystal Castle every day every hour To stay fit for my task I eat food that is right And I brush my teeth morning, noon and night So follow my lead and I know you will be Healthy and smiling and happy like me " 🤣🤣🤣

@@hoursintheattic5325 Lionel Playworld, also known as "Kiddie City", was at one point the second largest toy store chain in the country. Their slogan/song used to be: Let Lionel Playworld turn that frown.... upside down. In the TV commercial the kangaroo would jump on a frown and turn it into a smile while the jingle played. We can't forget about the most popular toy store at the mall.... "KB Toy Store".

As soon as you mentioned a "familiar whiff" i knew you were talking about the bike tires. Could always smell those aisles away. We rarely went to the store. And we bought something even less often. But I still remember loving it. And I could have killed for one of those shopping sprees.

I worked at TRU in the mid 90s. When I think of all of the store-related tickets, coupons, flyers, etc I used to fish out of my pockets at the end of a shift and throw in the trash... Man, I wish I'd held on to some of it. Took me a long time to get past my horrible work memories and get back to my great childhood customer memories.

I was born in 1967. My childhood was spent going to our local 🦒Toys🦒R🦒Us🦒. We had one right down the road from our house, off South 27th Street and Howard Avenue. It was the most special place a kid could go to! I got my MEGO Superheroes Action Figures back in the early to mid 70's. Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Tudors Electronic NFL Football!, TYCO & AFX🚗🏁🏎Slot car racing, and Star Wars figures, ships, playsets, and other necessities.....lol. It was THE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS of a childhood. Hearing Mom or Dad say, "Do you want to go to Toys R Us?" You couldn't get changed or ready fast enough! Even into my 30's, 40's, and 50's I'd still get that chill, that excitement feeling that you'd get when you'd walk in. When they closed for good decades of memories, gone. It was and still is DEVASTATING!

I hated their video game slip system. Even if you were lucky enough to find a slip for the game you wanted, there was always the likely chance they were still out of stock when you gave them the slip at the checkout. I can't count how many trips there ended with disappointment in not getting the game I wanted. Still loved the store overall though. Also, I'll never forget one Easter when I was little. My mom randomly took me to Toys R Us without me even asking and I ended up getting an entire full set of Monster In My Pocket figures. That was such an amazing day.

I do miss Toy R Us. Growing up in the 80s it was exciting times when my brother and I got to go to Toys R Us. We had all the popular toys that they still make this very day. Star Wars, TMNT, Power Rangers, and Gi Joe and we are both avid collectors. I have a mini Toys R Us at my house from all the toys I have collected over the years. My brother the same. You can say we are always going to be Toys R Us kids. So it was really tough seeing the downfall of a great embodiment of our childhood go down the tubes. Sure you have these small sections or remnants of Toys R Us in Macy's stores in the US, but it's not the same. You don't have that same feeling as you had when walking in the big stores. I am happy my kiddos got to experience a little magic before it disappeared from existence. I think Toys R Us would be very successful with big stores again because Walmart and Target really struggle with setting up their toy sections. They have limited space and some collectibles are on the back wall and not very organized. It's just a mess and it's the same at Walmart. So much is scattered. I have some really good marketing ideas for Toys R Us and I believe it can lead to a successful resurrection of the greatest Toy Store ever...

I worked there in the mid-late 90's as a "ticket writer", the person you gave those little yellow slips to at the desk to pick up your video games. I still have all the swag the national marketers for Nintendo and Sony would give me when they visited the store to service their merch and displays. All manner of branded Pins, buttons, pens, toys, shirts, hats, etc. On top of that, I also kept a ton of the promotional 34 x 34 wall posters, standers and displays. It's all back at my parents house up in the attic. No one wanted that stuff then and it was all destined for the dumpster so I took it all.

I remember going to a toys r us when i was 4 and it was amazing for me. so many toys and games and they even had a console set up with mariokart on it, it was incredible! due to it being an hour away in a different city i didnt go there very much. Then one day about 3 years ago we where getting birthday presents for my brother and one of our stops was toys r us, but by then we could tell it was ending. it was just so sad, there where no set up consoles, no cool lighting and nothing that was cool about it anymore. There where emty shelves of stuff wich i thought where sold out toys but they where actually bits where suppliers had stopped shipping goods to the store. Due to the new big and hip toy store on the other side of the city the toys r us was losing business and because of that, losing sales. The building was just so old compared to this new one that it just couldnt keep up with the times. It closed a few years after and replaced by a charity store that only uses like a quarter of the space so you can still see the old remnants. What funny is that due to it being next to the road and one of the sides is on a glass panel (it was built with a new car park) for safety reasons it cant be taken down, and the other sign on the front of the store the charity shop doesnt have the money to take the other one down so the sign still remains there as a reminder of what used to be in that very building

TRU died to me when they switched the aisle configuration and cannibalized large portions for BRU. It became just a frenetic mess boxing the sections in. The last thing I bought was Smash Bros for Gamecube. The owners destroyed TRU starting in the early 90s with so many poor decisions. They refused to merge alongside other companies as well as create friendlier stores and shopping experiences and a decent online presence so by 2000 it was barely recognizable and just a dying company. I met individuals I knew from HS around the shopping center where you'd either hang out or have lunch that were working there in the 00's and they would tell me it was the most miserable experience of their lives.
