The two finest Christmas specials ever made from sitcoms were Blackadder and Father Ted. I will die on that hill.

I was once having a day out in Teignmouth. My girlfriend and i were watching some street performer in the town. I looked to my side, and there was Bobby. (I guess he was just spending time wandering around during the day with a show in the evening). He smiled at me and commented favourably on the act we were watching. I'll never forget that moment. Thank you Bobby. I thought you were brilliant on TV and when i met you for those few seconds, well.... You were brilliant. Thanks for the memories. All of them. God bless you and all your loved ones. Rock on Bobby ❤️

Morecambe & Wise were most likely the biggest hit at Christmas back then. May explain why a few on here are forgotten about. I did like the Victoria Wood special but that was probably around 92/3. Such a shame most of the stars are gone. Thanks for the memories ❤️

Ronnie Barker - a genuine British gem. On the other hand, I never cared for Little & Large, Canon & Ball (Bobby Ball personally barred me from his club, Braces, in Rochdale), The Crankies, or Dame Edna. In fact, Dame Edna reminded me of Maggie Thatcher. And I hated Cilla Black (or Cilla Lack as I called her, on account of lacking talent). It's a shame that Frankie Howard associated himself with her. I did also have the odd pint at Bernard Mannings bar in Middleton, though I never met him there. Such a shame. Hinge and Brackett never did it for me, either. Surprised you didn't feature Danny La Rue (came to mind because he bought the pub next door to where I worked in Oldham, and where I went often, so I did meet him). Finally, Kenny Everitt, what can I say, Toilet humour at its worst, and not particularly funny.

Cilla is actually a lovely human and also sang with Marc Bolan. She may have been a cheese fest in the 80s but it wasn’t always that way.

Dustin Gee. Him and Les Dennis were part of comedy, back in the 80's. Until his untimely death, of course. Although, Les Dennis did manage to find his own niche, afterwards. The 80's was the last decade when variety shows were the go-to for light entertainment. By the 90's, they were consider too old fashioned and passé. I can see both sides of that argument. They were kind of long in the tooth as far as family entertainment was concerned, but they were generally good, wholesome stuff that, although a bit formulaic and cringey at times, guaranteed a sense of homeliness, tradition and togetherness, especially during the festive season.
