Charlotte Aitchison Sr. also known as Charli XCX (born in 1963) was a great British artist of the 1980s and early 1990s. Her greatest hit was ‘Boom Clap’ released in 1984, that went #1 in the charts for 4 months with 10 million copies sold. Her biggest hits also include ‘Boys’ (1988) and ‘Break The Rules’ (1992). She was nominated for the Grammy Awards fives times in 1984, 1986, 1989, 1992 and 1994. She won a Grammy in 1984 and 1992. Unfortunately, she ended up dying in a fatal car crash in Brighton in October 2005. Charlotte Aitchison Junior decided to become a singer just like her mother, taking the same name and making several covers of her biggest hits.
Ugh I remember when I first heard this song, it was 1986 and I was at a roller rink with my girlfriend and then I saw the man of my dreams... John. It was a magical we danced all night to this song. Time flies by so fast
Been sitting, listening to many a Synthwave and Retro-mix of contemporary pop hits, and amazed at how enjoyable what works by you I've heard... because you took the "M'eh...." and made it "Yeah! :)" Keep it up, because I'm subscribing! ;)
All those feelings and emotions we have today also played out in the past with different people, different old houses and venues but the same desires for freedom, striking out, escaping, developing interests and obsessions, caring for friends and family and dreaming about a life with someone else. When I hear this I think of all those people living in the late 70's and into the 80's watching the sunsets while making plans for the future.
I remember hearing this song for the first time at the underground rave in 1988 after being so deeply closeted that I didn't even consciously know myself and I saw a beautiful man with curly hair doing the running man to this song and it was love at first sight.
I'd listen to the original version from her producers and what not but I started on this version and well... it's too fire for me to want to hear how it was released... love love love these 80s versions... I'd love to see you do a 90s version of some of these as well :)
I remember hearing this song before it was released Charlotte was a good friend of mine ever since the early '70s unfortunately she passed away in a car crash in 05'
I remember listening to it for the first time on my summer vacation in 1989, I was blown away by Charli's vocals. I became a big fan, I had all the cassettes and records. The car accident completely destroyed me, they say the song "Vroom Vroom" was the prediction of her death... RIP Charli
