D-Day 80th Anniversary - Normandy Then and Now footage 

Went to the 70th and the 73rd. Gonna miss the 80th which I reckon will be the last of the original guys. Big hugs all those that make it back 80 years later. We owe you our freedom!! Xx

Our Dear Friend, Bill passed away Yesterday. The day he was going to travel back to those beaches he fought at 80 years ago. He was at Juno. Bill I believe was a Landing Craft Operator. He later received the French Legion of Honour…for his role. A Gentleman, of the Highest Order…Bill was aged 100Years. With Respect and Love…We wish You Eternal Peace and Our Gratitude. Surrey B.C. Amazing work to combine Normandy footage it brought tears to my eyes thinking of my Father who spent 6 years fighting the Nazi's but was getting officer training in Sicily and Italy before rejoining his unit in the Netherlands. Years later he took my Mom to follow his WWII footsteps always regret Not going along

I was there with my girlfriend inJanuary, unfortunately the museum was closed, but we made the most out of our time there. We stayed in Rouen and travelled a couple of hours to the Normandy beaches, where we spent most of a day exploring Omaha beach. We walked across it (from the memorial to the mulbary harbour area of thebeach, and went up to the village. Walking along the lane above the cliifs during sunset was amazing. We rushed to Gold and Juno beach, but it was hard finding Gold beach in the dark. I remember pulling up to that hut (which I had no knowledge about prior), and got out to read it and pay my respects. It was quite spooky there in the dark because it didn't seem like we were in the right spot where people go to park up, so we left and went to Juno beach. Even though we achieved a lot that day, I have so much more left to see of the Normandy beached/D-Day sites.

Went to Omaha- everyone wanted to look in the museums… I had to breakaway from that and get down to the beach itself- it was momentous!

I will be there 4th - 8th June for 80 yr commemorations.

Like the sands of Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Okinawa, Peleliu, Guadalcanal, and many others, where soldiers from America and other Western Nations came to end the force of evil- These beaches are sacred. The blood they left on the beaches has permeated the sand, and the remains of those in whom it once flowed can be seen in the cemeteries not far away. I pray we never forget them, or their courage to sacrifice their own lives on the altar of freedom. Heavenly Father, grant them eternal rest and let your perpetual light shine upon them.

I've started reading a book called D Day minute by minute but it doesn't talk about the build up to D Day and the various operations. Can you suggest a good book please and a documentary to watch?
