I was there myself, 15yo, my step dad took me. It was my first ever football game, was never much into sports at all prior to this game. After this game i could not stop talking about football, I even played H.S. football and been a diehard Dolfan ever since. Talk about a life changer. Nov 30th, 1981.
I was at the game. I believe it was a Monday Night Game. There were like 200 drug arrests and a fan fight almost every minute of the 2nd half somewhere in the stadium. A newspaper article predicted the Dolphins would lose and in the last minute of the game when it was obvious the Dolphins were going to win, a fan ran out on the goal line, lit the article on fire and threw it towards the stands. Several Miami PD officers jumped on him in the west end zone and beat him like he owed them money. It was the absolute craziest game I ever went to. The old Orange Bowl made Joe Robbie Stadium seem like a mortuary. I remember back then wondering what their father did to them to make the Blackwood brothers such psychos. They were like real life Hanson brothers in a time when receivers weren't protected by a lot of rules. BTW, I remember when the fans figured out they were making it impossible for Jaworski to communicate with the offense. It kept getting louder and louder because more and more people were screaming their brains out. I tried to tell my 7th grade homeroom teacher I was late because I wasn't feeling well when I woke up. She knew from my hoarse voice that I was at the game the night before.
I was 19 y/o I always got there 3 hrs before the game me and my younger brother had become master ticket scalpers for canes and dolphins we didn't miss a game what made the orange bowl great was the metal upper deck it sounded like a bomb what great memories the hurricanes will never be the same they were great in the old orange bowl I miss those days
This gave me chills. I was born in Miami and let me tell you, THERE WILL NEVER BE AN ORANGE BOWL AGAIN. The field was literally right on the turf. So close to the field. Those were the GOOD OLD DAYS. Awesome video, thanks!!
Should have refurbished the Orange Bowl. You can't replicate the design and the noise level that the Orange Bowl had. It was definitely a home field advantage. The passion with the fans back then is so much different than it is today. I see people at football games looking at their I Phones. You might as well stay home.
Well, the refurbished Joe Robbie Stadium with the canopies that extend over the upper decks has created a dome-type atmosphere. I've been going to games at JRS for 30 years, always unimpressed with the noise. But at the Miami-Notre Dame game in November 2017, it was OB-loud, for sure.
One of, if not the most intimidating stadiums for opponents. You're right. They could have refurbished it. Robbie, like so many other owners was greedy and wanted those luxury boxes.
How many times did QBs get away with a delay of game in that closed end of the OB. The OB offered one of the most unique 12th man experiences in the league and dumbass Joe Robbie gave it away. Then the city demolished it and forced the Canes into shitsville aka Miami Gardens
I was at this game and in that west end zone. Screaming until I got hoarse. That stadium was magical. They should never have left. They'll never recapture that magic at the stadium I call the graphitied UFO.
I Was also there 13 years old with my best friend at the time.Man I remember it well Duriel Harris tore his knee up trying to spike the ball over the goalpost I think
I'll always miss that old dilapidated stadium that smelled like stale draft beer and piss. The OB had that majic. Both the Dolphins and Hurricanes had an advantage there. I went to the 85 Bears game and the 89 Notre Dame game. Those two games were the best if the best. They should have renovated the OB. Hard Rock Stadium does not compare to this. R.I.P. Orange Bowl
There’s no place like home when it comes from my Hometown Miami-Dolphins & Miami’s Hurricanes fans Were the loudest voices by far!! WHERE FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI WELCOMES YOU TO OUR HOUSE!! THAT PLACE ROCKS! What makes it even more SPECIAL IS BEING A SEASON- TICKET HOLDER Throughout all of Those MAGICAL YEARS… THE ORANGE BOWL WILL ALWAYS BE LEAGENDERY!!🏈🐬🌴🇺🇸
Between 1981 and 1985, including playoffs the dolphins were 61- 21-1. That included a run of 20-1 (1983-84) regular season wins after Marino lost his first start to Buffalo Bills in 1983. I never seen a run like that - in fact , it was better than the 18-2 dolphins run from 1971- 1973; when they went undefeated. I missed maybe 2 games during that stretch in the 1980s. They were on such a high level of playing as a team. Both offense and defense. Their only lost was 17-6 to patriots on the road during that run.
@Archie Fitzpatrick 3 of his final 4 years, he made the playoffs, including an AFC Championship game. 2 losing records in his entire career. Most teams would kill for that kind of mediocrity.
The OB is where the Fins went 17-0. Never beaten that year. Never repeated. The best team ever in the best stadium ever. Best offense and the best defense in the league in 72-73. No team will ever ever ever be that good in one year.
Whether it was the dolphins or the hurricanes we still had the best home field ever. The reason why the play clock exists is because of the orange bowl. THERES A REASON WHY SOMEONE HAD IT TORN DOWN. Miami has a bad rap for a fan base but we are compassionate for sports. We are usually the rowdiest but no one seems to understand. Hurricanes still carry that 58-0 record at home and the dolphins are still the only team undefeated. Think about it
I was there in the closed end, first row. My bed sheet banner I pinned to the padding got snagged by the field goal netting and yanked it up where it dangled for the world to see. I was just a few feet from Duriel HARRIS when he hurt himself while celebrating. Everyone there thought we should take credit for that INT. It was the loudest I ever heard the old OB....!!’nn
I was there that night. Upper deck, North side, about even with where this took place. One of so many great memories in the greatest stadium ever. There was nothing like the noise generated in that closed end.
I was there too, lower deck under the cover of the upper,South side or what I would call Dolphins sideline side.I'd never been lower deck before then, - always was upper deck seating .I remember going to games with my step-dad and was nervous the first time because when people were stomping their feet and cheering in the upper deck,it actually felt like we were gonna come down it would vibrate and sway a little... Great place to see a great team play back then.
The OB was so loud. For those of who grew up in the Superbowl days of Miami the OB had metal seats built on 1930s concrete. You could feel the stadium shaking and then everyone would jump up and down or bang on the metal row seats you could not hear anything. There will never be another stadium like that ever. It was loud just walking down the ramps after a game. Great old times.
Yes I remember when I was a kid going there with my Dad, the fans where stomping on the ground in front of them the whole place shook. Great memories back then Rip OB🍊🏈
Because of defensive coordinator, Bill Arnsparger. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, just as Dan Marino was establishing himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, Arnsparger left Miami and was replaced with Chuck Studley. The end result? Marino threw *six* touchdown passes against the Jets in a single game in 1986, yet the Dolphins *still lost* because of Studley's Swiss cheese defense. Had Arnsparger stayed with Miami, it's very likely they would have won Super Bowl 19.
People tend to forget , since the 80's the dolphins have drafted horribly , particularly rounds 1 & 2 ...that can set back a francise so far back ! ....drum roll please !!! ....jackie shipp ...lorenzo hampton ...john bosa ...eric kumerow ...sammy "double wammy " smith ...troy stafford ...billy millner ...eddie blake ...john beck ...yatill green ...ed moore ...jamar fletcher ...ron davenport .. Pat white ...dion jordan ...ted ginn jr. ...jay brophy ...daniel thomas ... And yes , throw in charles harris ...1 st. & 2 rd. Failures and flops .
Harry Diaz ...you are correct sir !!! ..they had a safety mike kloszowski ...lol. ..only difference is the "l" in there ...lol. ...i became i dolphin fan (i live in philly) ...when they went to the superbowl in 1981 , because i despised the redskins so much back then !! ...i was only 9 but i thought they were a bunch of cocky players (thiesman , riggins , the "smurfs" , the "hogs" ) so i rooted so hard , that it stuck !!! ..the very next year they beat the skins 35-17 ...and the rest is history , they drafted marino the year after that ...that was the beginning of an era i will never forget !!! ...i could not wait for sundays to come , and watch marino , clayton , duper and a great offensive line ...the killer b's were starting to fade ...the games were always 42-35 or 41-38 ....till this day my money is on marino behind on points and the final 2 minutes of the game !! ....so many great memories harry !!
Lol.. Yeah , alot of these fans in philly are passionate , but lack class ...2 years ago a father brought his young son to a game , the guy wore the oppossing teams jersey ...these punks threw beer on the poor guy and his young son was there ...lowlife punks ...if they were alone they would have not done that ....shameful ...disgrace ...as. For the dolphins harry , i have really good faith about this team !!! ...they have so many draft picks the next 2 years ...5 # 1's ...2020 &2021 ...we are well below the cap to entice premiere free agents here !!!! I really like some young core players ...baker ...mcmillian ...gicsiki ...dieter ...wilkins ...van ginkle ...needam really improved !! ...he can be a factor ... And wiltz also inproved ...preston williams will be back ...x-howard ....rashard jones as well ( but i think he is done for the dolphins) ....i would live to see them get stronger on both lines with some early picks ( 2 d.e. ...a guard and a tackle ...maybe they can get a proven running back in free agency (ballage is embarrasing ) ...i have hope for a quick turnaround the next coulple seasons !!!! ...oh , charles harris is unproductive waste of roster space ...another bust of a no1. Pick ....
Perry Kane 85 Bears were the best.Better than pussy unbeaten Dolphins. The Bears were hung over from being out all night & didn’t give a shit about Miami
@@chitownace777 Are you really that stupid and bitter? The bears got lucky in 85. Thankfully, they had a defensive coordinator who was even dumber than you - repeatedly running the wrong defense out there, enabling them to get repeatedly humiliated by a better team, quarterback and coach.
+Michael Barnhardt - the current team is not a patch on these Dolphins. A team I used to support back in the day. Worst thing ever was leaving the Orange Bowl as the noise evident there. Fans being so close to the field of play gave the team an extra man, ala Seahawks. The franchise is a joke, compared to the heady Shula/Marino days.
@@joegriego3091 I agree with your comment on the current dolphin uniforms. Also, what is up with all three Florida NFL teams? Who designs uniforms in Florida? The Jags, dolphins and Buccaneers have three of the worst uniforms in the league. The sad thing is the Dolphins and Buccaneers used to have two of the better looking uniforms in the league.
Me and my brother Bob went to that game we screamed our ass off I had no voice for the next three days that was one of the best games I ever went to hey Bob if you're out there give me a call brother
What Jaworski did that was stupid was dropping back so far in the shotgun. Of course no one was gonna hear. Should have been under center and just gone with a quick count.
To bad Marino was not the QB, till 83 when the killer bee defense was getting older I remember watching David Woodley and I even got to watch last few years of Bob Griese
Chris Roberts ...yeah man , it was hard watching the killer b's fading ...doug betters had no moves left except jumping with his hands in the air ...sad to watch ...because they were tenacious for quite a few years ...
A few years before the killer b's faded ...it was sad seeing doug betters just jumping up and down with his hands up standing still. , bob baumhauer playing with two bad knees ....and seeing the secondary constantly getting beat deep by stanley morgan ...andre reed ...james lofton ...wesley walker ...al toon ...ahhh !!!
Bill Arnsparger laughing at 6:10 makes me laugh too. They knew how absurd the NFL crowd noise rule was back then - And you weren't gonna quiet those Orange Bowl crowds,- in the 70's and 80's that place was one of the toughest stadiums in the league for a visiting team. I was 13 y.o and was there that night and you could just FEEL the stadium rocking, even though we were lower deck on this night I'd been there plenty of times where I thought the old Orange Bowl was gonna come down it was so loud.
I was at this game. Section 32. Yelling like a banshee along with everyone else. We KNEW we were affecting the game. Irony is that I live in Philly now and hear from them how much more "passionate" they are. Yeah, riiiight. I know better.
The irreplaceable Howard Cossell. Yeah, they brought in another guy but what a step down that was. Even drunk, Howard was better than Fran Tarkenton or the guys today. Madden was awesome but other than that, ... no bueno.
As proficient as the offense was ...it was hard watching judson and lankford getting beat like drums on deep patterns ...why did they stick with lankford for so long ?? ...he was clearly out of his league , so inept ...
@@mikewazowski350 I didn't see any crying. If an athlete thinks there's an unfair advantage ( there clearly was ), he's well within the rules to have the game played under protest. Calling him names from 6th grade really doesn't make a difference to actual professionals, sorry to break it to you.
@@67marlins81 I remember an interview with him years later saying he was trying to get a penalty. He was being a douche. Just play football, not futbol.
@@mikewazowski350 He may actually not have known whether it could be penalized....? Even though I'm a Dolphins fan, at those levels it probably should have been penalized somehow - fair is fair. It could have been worked out for an off-season vote eventually.
Speaking as a Dolphins fan, at some point they SHOULD have been able to penalize Miami for their crowd. When the officials ask for quiet, it should be honored.
