6X passing title holder (record); 5X Completion percentage leader; 4X season leader in passing TD's in NFL; All time leader in QB rushing TD's; 2X league MVP. Super Bowl MVP...#81??? You gotta be shittin' me!
@Miller Mayhem Exactly, but young was just amazing in my opinion. Especially when it came passer rating, leading the league 6x in it, not to mention he's an NFL MVP and tossed 6 TDs in that SB completely torching the Chargers.
Brady, Montana, Marino and maybe Manning and Unitas should be higher rated QB's, but Young ought to be higher than most any other QB. He is criminally underrated. He destroyed passing titles, half of which with a mediocre run game and O line. And that doesn't even begin to measure his scrambling and improvisational skills.
@Savage Cabbage wait you do know I said steve young is my favorite quarterback of alltime I'm a 49ers fan I said steve young is the best quarterback of alltime so dont knownwhy u said that
Steve Young is the greatest left handed quarterback of all time. He carved his own unique legacy in NFL history. We as 49er fans were so blessed to have two consecutive hall of fame quarterbacks.
Prime Steve Young you could argue is right up there with the best ever. His ability to run the ball as well as be an elite passer. Had one of the best Superbowls ever. He just didn't get to play for long. He got a late start as a starting QB(sat behind Montana), and then an early retirement because of injuries/concussions.
Dude made 8 guys on the defense miss...that's got to be some kind of record. But like you said, the key was the blocking. Mcintyre running all the way down the damn field, and Rice coming through at the end with a clutch come back block. Amazing to watch.
***** Really? So you're saying one of the most efficient Quarterbacks ever and Superbowl MVP with a record breaking six touchdowns is worthy of 81? Lol
Imagine being the 2nd most efficient quarterback of all time after Peyton Manning and being ranked in the 80s LOL. Dude had the same yards per pass play as Dan Marino while rushing for 5.9 yards per carry for over 4000 career yards. He was Madden '04 Vick but in real life
@@boland850 definitely overrated and didn’t live up to his potential. Mike Vick had all the tools and but no discipline. Still one of my favorites ever though
1:41 It is EVERY SINGLE PLAYER on that offense showing that they are 100% behind their quarterback. Look at the red jerseys hustling to make blocks. It's a FKN beautiful thing. Edit: timestamp
Verbatim from the video: "His career passer rating of 96.8 is the highest of any quarterback in NFL history." NFL Films: Still rates him at #81 in the Top 100.
Met Steve when I was six at a golf course. He saw us holding some memorabilia and said he'd be right back. A few minutes later he signed stuff for us and talked to my brother, my mom, and I for a few minutes. Super nice guy, I'll never forget how cool he was. I'll never forget that memory.
Hell yes. The call starting at 1:46.. HAS to be one of the all time greatest calls in NFL history. So glad that Young got his chance to prove himself and become a hall of famer. A great player.
I don't think he gets enough respect. he was the best combination of athlete and precise qb ever. I'd take him over Favre any day of the week. that throw to Owens to beat Green Bay was so good
Yeah... lol my Dad played with him at BYU. Pops was a redshirt Sr and he was a true freshman. Said Steve actually sucked hella bad in the beginning. Almost quit football after not getting selected to travel to Hawaii to play. My Dad saw him crying in the locker room and then encouraged him and told him to keep grinding and keep his head up and he'd be a star one day. My Dad goes, "honestly I was just trying to make him feel good, he was that bad." Then sure enough he becomes a HOF QB and now my Dad just laughs at how freakin legendary of an athlete Steve became. Love you Uncle Steve!
49ers have a bunch of guys in the top 15, including Jerry Rice as #1- Steve Young is a great QB, but he's not on the top of the mountain- he's at that 2nd level along with guys like Jim Kelly Troy Aikaman and Kurt Warner. And he's only there because he has won a ring in the 94 season all by his lonesome. If he never won that lombardi in 94, he would be in the 3rd level with guys like Donovan McNabb, Rich Gannon and Steve McNair.
LOL. Steve young to Jim Kelly? And your argument is hilarious " if he didn't win the super bowl in 1994...". What kind of argument is this? He DID WIN it. There is no "if" plus he led the league in passer rating twice and at one point had the highest completion % in NFL history after he retired.
Aikman better than Young? lol There is no way that Aikman should be ranked better than Young using a one on one comparison. Comparing their stats is a joke. Young's career passer rating is 15 points higher than Troy's, he has 67 more TD passes and 34 less INT's than Troy as well as 43 rushing TD's to Troy's 9. Troy may have played for better teams for a few years in the early 90's, but that doesn't make Troy better.
Troy played in a totally different offense, which was mainly built around Emmitt Smith and the running game. He won't have the same stats as Young, who's offense was built around the passing game. If Young played in Dallas, he would have produced different stats. Both are legends so saying one is better than the other is pointless.
1:58 Jerry Rice Blocking A Defensive Lineman. I mean seriously, this is why Jerry is the GOAT WR. I'm sorry I had to say it on this video, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
(1) The Cowboys only beat the 49ers twice in the playoffs with Young as qb. (2) The only time the 49ers got “destroyed,” Aikman was OUT WITH A CONCUSSION, once again proving that Aikman was just along for the ride on a great TEAM. (3) Those two losses by Young were with him playing with a defense that ranked worse than the midpoint in defensive rankings, while the Cowboys for top or near it. (4) The 3 straight Cowboy wins were followed by 3 straight 49er wins.
Bill Richardson: I wouldn't say he was 10 x better, but Young was better. No question. Like yourself Bill, I'm a massive Cowboys fan. Good for you for being objective. I love Aikman, but I too am objective.
@@behrangdarian3278 Btw, quarterbacks never play each other. Maybe in ping-pong or foosball in the locker room, or in one-on-one basketball, but never on the football field. No quarterback beats another quarterback. It's one of the stupidest, most wrong-headed narratives in all of sports, and perpetuated by people who ought to know better (football commentators and writers), but, sadly, the hype sells the game.
No way Steve Young is #81, put him maybe #20-25, but not #81. BTW, Steve Young's Superbowl performance is unparalleled, 7 TD passes, even Joe Cool only had 5 or 6. Had the Niners stayed healthy in 96 and 97, chances are he would have had a second ring to go with the first one.
drlee2 That’s because the real Super Bowl in those days was in the NFC championship game between the 49ers and Cowboys (or NY Giants in the 1980s-early 90s)!
Steve was a true elite legend of the game. We see more QBs today more athletic and runner/passer but none did it better than Young at a time when it was a rare thing. The absolute best passer who could also scramble in NFL history. Way ahead of his time
To think he was 8th string QB at BYU and Homesick. Then rose to what he did at BYU. Always getting better, as he pushed himself through his whole career. His dad was a good but tough dad. Made him think, work hard, be prepared. Jim McMahon ( another awesome legend at BYU and Chicago Bears taught him at BYU how to throw a tight spiral( as he up to that point had a hard time. Then to me still through the tightest and prettiest one) As being a BYU fan Steve among others helped lift the image of the School's Football program. Was also a great example of our faith to the world and we were and are proud of him.. He wouldnt cash his checks as a back up QB until he was forced to I think it was like 9 months worth lol. As he felt he didnt really earn them... To catch recent shows with Steve see BYUtv sports show when he is on ( RU-vid) Like many we could hear him talk all day...
Teared up when he finally beat those great Cowboys team and then made his mark in his Super Bowl... the guy worked hard to earn it and it paid off... that's teachable qualities the man possessed as a QB and player.
As a lifelong 49er fan..... Montana vs Young, I pick Young all day. Don't get it twisted, I love Joe Cool but Steve was a straight savage. Thank you Steve for being so patient to wait behind Montana. Young was intelligent, could throw in the pocket and run like a mofo. The fans (Us) were so spoiled, Montana followed by YOUNG🤯 Side Note: Jeff Garcia was pretty good himself 👍🏼
Steve Young lost 6-7 years with the USFL and sitting behind Joe Montana. With those lost years and the 49ers he would own every quarterback record & won several more Superbowls. If Steve Young played into today’s NFL he would destroy the league. Steve Young is criminally underrated and should be in the top 20.
81? Most underrated web of all time. I don’t know if there was ever a qb that had the running and throwing skills of Steve young. He combined both skills better than anyone ever has.
I think this is top 100 players of ALL time for ALL positions so CHILLAX, ain't no one getting one over on Steve Young at NFL Films we ALL know What's up about this man..
