None of the 1979 Trans Ams had 403hp. The 403 you mention was one of the available engines as in the Oldsmobile big Block 403 Cubic Inch V8 that was used snuck in with some models as it was a little more efficient to get the average emissions down. It was also the only available big block V8 in California. The most powerful one was the Pontiac 400 CI motor which was published to have 220hp probably under-rated for insurance reasons and because General Motors has an unwritten rule that no car can have more power than the Corvette. Based on the power to weight needed to get those Trans Ams acceleration realistically it probably had closer to 260ish hp. The weaker big V8 was also used because the stronger Pontiac V8 had ended production in 1978 with a surplus for the '79 model year and they only had so many to go around using the 403 Olds V8 to fill the gaps but it was rated for just 185hp. There was no way with emissions choking, catalytic converters, carburetors, low compression, low tech and low octane fuel of the day a car could be made to meet emissions and generate much more power than that as in 1979 403 horsepower (and Cubic Inches as the 1980 model year with its turbo would show) were things of the past killed by insurance and federal regulations.
0:01 My best friends girlfriend had one just like that in silver back in the 90s Turbo just like that with same wheels and T-tops too. Hers was a 4 or 5 speed ( i think 4 ) . I dated her sister as well . We did a lot of partying while double dating in that car :)
That's offensive for me, just for movie you guys must have blew so many Trans am in your RETAKES!! Already poor Charger is down to few units, thanks to Dukes shooting !!
2007? What is this a period piece? Never heard of this movie. Instant cult classic if I've ever seen one. Oh, the end was actually 1980, makes sense now.
@@V8AmericanMuscleCar Yes he did know how to drive, he drove like a 50 Chevy rag top. Albeit he wasnt a good driver, but he drove. He also did not like to drive modern cars.
McQueen's character in _The Hunter_ , Ralph "Papa" Thorson, knew how to drive a car but had a hell of a time with that Trans-Am lol. He seemed to be a better combine driver :) All that action is right here on this very channel and that particular video is getting close to hitting 300,000 views !! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ISgI7TKX7xA.html
Some great camerawork done with helicopters here. Something you won't see in today's movies because they probably use those stupid drones. Drones can never beat the intense shots that helicopters can do. Terrible music, though.
