Thanks for the encouragement 👍 had trouble finding switch plates like that, only 2 sellers on eBay and the other guys sold acrylic ones… had my eye out for weeks everywhere from b&q to Amazon to all the tiny tool shops and Wilkos…. Some bits are hard to find, sometimes you get lucky 😉👍

Hi, I lost your channel about 9 months ago. Found you again, however you might be happy about it (LOL) What an amazing job you have been doing. Had a thought on your blowouts on the windows. We use to make a thick putty out of yellow wood glue and sawdust from the same wood to fill and in the gaps, then sand to match. Also, for future you could save some sawdust in a jar to make more. Just a thought. But if you are going to put beauty rings on, it doesn't matter.

😀 nice to have you back 👍 I have a tub full of the dust from the sander for the ceiling for just that reason 😉 good call. And Yh I messed up another window this weekend so they’ll definitely have to be covered. But there’s time yet for that, thanks for the comment

Hello Oli, you are so right, it does look wonderful, the feel is so different. Love the light switch plates they are beautiful, I had copper ones in a previous house, hate white plastic. You are doing an amazing job there, well done. Best wishes Christine x

Do you love math?

@olivellanarrowboat4319 Год назад
I appreciate math, the beauty of the secret language that traverses borders and allows people who can’t say hello to each other communicate & how it can be used to explain our world and everything in it… and some math is fun, like a puzzle. But I’ll try to avoid it, I like it like fire, it’s great, from a bit of a distance… 😉

Coming along nicely. The quality laser-cut switch plates look much crisper on surface with the shadow aesthetic enhancement. Take it you plan on clear varnish on walls rather than paint over. You should two coat wood prime all the inner ply surfaces (and the roof lining)to prevent moisture penetration and migration and likewise all hidden wood surfaces need surface sealing that way. Larger diameter router cutters will make the job crisper and easier to do; many make the mistake of small diameters and small bearing guides that can chew away much more readily. Diamond slip sharpening cutters frequently will prolong and enhance performance. Economy router cutters are always false economy as you are probably finding out. Good solid progress.

@olivellanarrowboat4319 Год назад
Yh a guy at the wharf who’s building a boat mentioned he watches my videos and I was burning out the bearing because I had it the router too fast for the small bearings (around 1600rpm instead of it’s 1100rom rating). And Yh better bits are definitely the way forward. Im not sure on the finish yet, what would you do?

looking really good, great job. Glad you mentioned how good your insulation is which it is. Unlike project 58. Im just hoping someone tells James to re insulate his boat somehow.

It’s all the black spot mold that worries me…. But I don’t know if he’s mentioned it but I’m pretty sure someone hasn’t gone over the boat with a black spray paint can… but Yh the spray foam trims off the extremes of temperature, the underfloor foil had a much bigger effect than expected. Tha panels in the hatches too, when you take them off the south side in the morning to reveal the hatch doors, you can feel the heat radiating off them. I wouldn’t even say well needed, I’d say necessary. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

I have an Idea: what if you route it a bit bigger than you need, then fill the gap with black silicone or the like,- it would give it a nice look. ...carefull though it could be a bit messy,- just put some soap water on your fingers and the silicone will be nice and smooth !!!
@olivellanarrowboat4319
@olivellanarrowboat4319 Год назад
I’ve got no idea what I’m going to do for decor, not a moments thought tbh, I’ve been totally focused on building the thing… what would you do? Dark stain and varnish? Paint? Paper? As for the silicone I think that would look amazing, if the gap was even, but I’m no where near that in skill I’m afraid, but the thought of a shiney black outline around those stainless plates made me break out in a huge grin 😀 Yh I made the mistake of buying cheap bits to start with, but I’m learning 😉 thanks for watching and commenting 👍

😀 thanks for watching. This all started because I live so far away, and everyone who I know that asks about the boat are at different points from when I’ve seen them. This seemed the easiest way to keep family and friends in the loop, I figured, if they were interested, they could see where I was upto and ask me anything when I see them. Also, it’s free, massive video storage. instead of taking thousands of pictures, why not stick it on the internet and see what strangers think lol. Thanks for the encouragement. And the comment 😉👍

Haha nice! West and bongo are into headset flying, first person perspective from the drones viewpoint, it’s awesome, get bush to give either of them a shout if you’re looking for a meet up 👍 it’s a bit of a drive to get to kilworth from home, but if you get bored one weekend and want to come check out the boat/yard then just give me a shout 👍 have you guys been out in the water this year?

You can make a template with a large hole in it that the router base sets down into. Kind of like a picture frame. So the router position is controlled by base contacting the template. Then use double sided sticky tape to hold the template against the wall. The best way to get the corners to match is to use the cutter size that matches.
@olivellanarrowboat4319
@olivellanarrowboat4319 Год назад
Yh I thought that, but it’s way too much hassle for a light switch, and there are 3 different sizes of plate, so 3 different templates to make…. Maybe later towards fit & finishing though Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Hi Oli, your boat is coming along nicely. I've watched some of your work when featured on The New Boater channel. Have you seen or heard from Nigel lately? He hasn't put out a video in a while and I'm a bit worried. Thanks

Yh I spent a few hours with him last Friday night, he’s good, just working lots. He’s on rotating shifts atm, some nights, some days, with that and the dogs I don’t think he has much free time at the moment. He was telling me he’d done some work on Bess, maybe we’ll see that in a bit…. No problem, I’d rather you reach out than sat wondering/worrying 👍

What are the props you're using to hold the boards up?
@olivellanarrowboat4319
@olivellanarrowboat4319 Год назад
Ceiling support props, called acro or acrow props. They’re pretty lightweight ones compared to what’s out there. They’re for plasterboard and ceilings. I got mine from a guy who used to be at the wharf. I think he said either toolstation or screwfix. Nice barge 😉👍
