I absolutely LOVE your channel. I've been lock picking for a little while now. I make all of my tools. I'm not really good at making them, though, and I can't really afford a decent lock picking set. If you have any picking sets laying around that you no longer use, I would love to purchase them from you. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to give us this valuable information. Your amazing.

Those tubular lock tools are excellent. Probably the best tubular SPP option currently on the market IMO. I wish the ends were rounded to make it more comfortable, but that's my only nit.

Yep. I got one after you told me where and I agree its the best tubular tension wrench I've used yet. Better than the sparrows mantis I was using

Wow, these are some steep prices for these picks. Thanks for going into detail about the tubular locks, I did not know how exactly one can pick them but now I understand perfectly.

I just make my picks from hair pins, the spring steel is decent, and it only takes about 30 minutes to sand and file everything down. It’s also pretty easy to make nice handles for them if you have a 3d printer

Hi Bill,i took your advice and went around looking for locks at different places. I found one small Lock Shop here in Huntington Beach that gave me 1 lock that he was going to throw away. all the other people that I went to looked at me like I was crazy and told me no I couldn't have any. I just got done watching a video of all your locks that you have(i forgot to look at the date)I would like to purchase or if you would be kind.Smile.😆 Would love to get some different types(the junk ones ) dimple locks, shuttle lock , anything really I'm a beginner so I don't need any hard locks I'd much rather give you the money then buy them from the store, or i will donate money to the fun appreciation link.Don't know if you go back and reread what people text you on old videos but i left you a message. Thank you very much Bill. I hope I can get some locks I'm in desperate need to practicing more. Have a great day. Stay safe and stay legal.😆

Havent tried it yet but ive heard that after you pick a tubular lock and it starts to turn you can rotate it half way to the next picking position. Role up a business card and insert it into the key way and wiggle it to form it to the pins. Should be able to trick the lock into thinking its the key and make a full 360 with it

I have one of those tubular wrenches, and it's awesome. The single-wafer end also works great for TOK tension on smaller locks and locks that very paracentric.

Its funny how you said this wasn't about picking the tubular lock... That lock was why I watched this one - been curious about how you pick those since I was in school and kids would brag that they knew how to pick the "computer locks" (the old keyboard switch locks - 486 and older). Pretty sure most of them picked them using the keys since 90% of PCs had the exact same locks.

I made my first picks in 19 thou in that 1075 material when i worked in sheet metal laser cut mfg. First one broke really fast, then i found out that this material cracks very easily if you leave sharp edges. Still got the survivors, thoroughly polished, and i use them every single day. Unbendable, very flexible, great feedback. Sad thing is if they used thinner stock they wouldn't even need that much finishing and this would be a great product...that, and the pick profiles suck.

Bill thanks for all you do! Those nuts on the handles are locks not something to grab, get screw tight then run bold down to bottom. Countet turn acts as a lock, if use 2 bolts locking strength increases drematicly

The Master padlock in this video reminded me that really old Master padlocks often had codes (4 digits for #1 model) which one could look up in a code book. You could then cut a key on a code cutter or using depth keys. Especially, if you don't want to be caught playing games with the lock, just take a glance at the lock then go elsewhere to make the key! So if you find an old Master codebook you may want to save it "just in case". I don't know if they are still marking locks with codes (which by the way were usually erasable, but sometimes the original marking was still legible).

We have the offset issue quite a bit at the store I manage. The keys wear out and the index nub part of the key gets really floppy. All it takes is an employee in a rush and the key pops out while it's off-home position. We have a selection of nub less keys (index ground off) for that reason located in our safe.

i live in a building that has locks that have both a keycard and tumblers and i don't believe that they are very secure i was hoping you could do a video on them the handle is free except when you put in the key or the card i have tried to pick it but am not sure how to put tension on the tumbler pins with the handel turning freely it is a KABA rfid and lock combo and i cant find any model markings its not the kind you slide the card in you just have to tap the card it looks like a hotel room lock except it has the tumblers and you can open it with the key as well i think your videos are awesome Lakelizerd

I wonder if there is such a thing as a plug spinner for tubular locks that you could crank down REALLY tight and spin your way open after you pick the first round. Or, at least spin your way through a few times, if not all the way to open.

they have a few interesting ideas but this whole thing smacks of lack of caring. The only thing worth buying out of these is the tubular tension wrench. I used to use the mantis till I found this and been using it ever since. It also comes with a little probe so you actually have something to press the pins with. The probes nothing special though. 3" long piece of metal with clear rubber covering half for gripping. I didn't see it in the video. Did they not put one in with this set?

in theory, yes... that is what a lock spinner does for regular locks. in practice, it'd be almost impossible because you aren't trying to skip past one shear line, you're trying to skip past 49 of them (7 pins, 7 turns)

actually if the lock is turned halfway like that in the housing that doesn't meen it was picked. If you're barrel key has the top tooth broke off sometimes it doesn't turn all the way back up to 12 o clock position
@jameselger572
@jameselger572 7 лет назад
If you move fast enough, the tumblers never drop below the shear line except down into the bevels and bounce out, so it can be a detectable certain speed. Not too fast and not too slow. I know it sounds odd but from one lock to the next each one is just a certain speed and pick it once. You just have to figure out the speed. I can't believe you didn't know that trick..
@jameselger572
@jameselger572 7 лет назад
Just try the speed you would expect it to work at with the key, about as fast as that fast.
@jameselger572
@jameselger572 7 лет назад
If you have 3 stops that land between pins, you pick one at a time, then turn the key with the three stops. But you make a key to pick those. The pins land between the pins so that you can pick them. It takes a file. Then you use the dummy to turn it, like it works. Use the force er something try it at different speeds and you'll figure it out.
@jameselger572
@jameselger572 7 лет назад
I think that over time, as the lock is used it has memory of how fast it was turned. So, after being turned about that fast that many times, that's the speed.
@jameselger572
@jameselger572 7 лет назад
It's a wear memory. It wears a certain way being used at a certain speed because the springs don't really change tension. So, gaps it had trouble crossing are worn down, and that's from use or frictional tuning. It can result in a lock that's easy for one person to use a key in and it doesn't seem to work or is sticky for everyone else.
@jameselger572

Thank you for this. I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. I misplaced a safe key (which is a barrel lock). I believe I have duplicates of that key in the safe (I don't know why I did that, but I did). If I use the tool to open the safe and the duplicates are not in there, to lock the safe, would I use the lock pick but work backwards?
@billjohnson8078
@billjohnson8078 8 лет назад
Yes, you COULD do that, but WHY? Once it's open remove the lock and either replace it with a new one or have some keys made. BTW, there ARE better picks that work faster and also decode the lock for you. Check out any of the lock pick dealers and look for "tubular pick".
