There are always surprises even though one doesn't recon with any anymore in those times of PSR and PTC. This time it was the military train W890 that showed up with a lashup that had its own character: All EMD units, the train was led by CSX SD40-3 #4049, Union Pacific SD70M #4563, and Ferromex SD70ACe #4037. It has been a long time since we saw a Ferromex unit on this line... Adding to the surprises were two X581 manifests, one of which had a 2+2 power configuration (two units upfront and two DPUs in the middle), which is unusual on this line. It was likely a combo train as he had one section of mixed freight behind the head units and another long section of autoracks behind the DPUs. The first train in the video is manifest Q582. Enjoy!

Thanks! The Abbeville is always worth a visit, provided trains are running... How much we miss the good ol' days. Wish you an awesome day (or what's left of it), too :)

I'm a UP fan, so I'm always happy when I see yellow locomotives in your video. That lashup is indeed fabulous. The Ferromex engine is pretty far from home. It's good to see midtrain helpers in your area. I think we can say that the last train won't break a speed record. Amazing catches again. Thanks for the update and I'm looking forward to the next German video. :)

So, UP? I also like railfanning UP, but they could really clean their engines and also put some more power on their trains. Some I watched sounded like they wouldn't make it up the hill. I haven't seen Ferromex locomotives in a long time. So this was a special treat, as was the entire power consist. Lol, I agree, the last train could have easily been overtaken even by an aging snail haha. Great you liked this video, too!

Super catch. Three different railroads, three different generations from oldest to newest and all EMD. Excellent video as always.
@mbmars01

That's right, where can one still see all-EMD power from different railroads on one train on a Class 1 railroad. It was amazing and it didn't even disturb that the CSX led. I like the sponge bobs :)

Nice to hear from you, Slater. I hope everything is well. Railfanning this line is still great fun, but like on many other CSX lines nowadays, the traffic level is low. There are only 4 long-haul regulars plus one or another random train in 24h, besides the locals. The video is certainly somewhat misleading.

Hot diggity! Great stuff! i have to agree about that 2x2 setup. That really is a rare sight, just like seeing that FerroMex unit. Really cool catches! I'm curious though about that manifest being allowed to block the road at Hull siding. I was under the impression that a train wasn't allowed to do that unless it had stalled out and didn't have a choice. Been too long since I've seen one of your uploads. Thank you.
@mbmars01
@mbmars01 2 года назад
I think this train in the siding in Hill simply tied down because the previous crew lawed out and the next crew had to be brought in from Greenwood. Railroads care little about blocking crossings. But funny that you mention it, there will be a video soon about a coal train that did stall there because of an engine failure and had to be "rescued" the next day.
@oldgoat142
@oldgoat142 2 года назад
@@mbmars01 Well that makes sense about the legally timed out crew, and yeah, I have no doubt that citizenry over the decades have raised holy hell about crossings being blocked across this country and other places. I'm sure many lawsuits have been filed, especially if an ambulance or police car was blocked responding to/coming from a call and something bad happened. Haha, funny coincidence about that coal train. Looking forward to it!
@mbmars01
@mbmars01 2 года назад
I keep saying that if one lives at a railroad one has to know what one buys into. Actually all roads are connected in the hinterland, so one can go around the block crossing. Sure, emergencies can certainly be a problem, but I would think the first responders would avoid taking these particular crossings anyway.
@oldgoat142

@@mbmars01 I absolutely agree, just like living by a major airport and such. I have no doubt the local folks know how to get around obstacles when they need to.

@mbmars01 I think there's less than 10 SD50 series still left on CSX, lol. Catching one is definitely bonus points. It's more rare than seeing an SD40-2 or SD40-3 these days.
