Hi Atomos team... could you please, please convince Canon to enable 4K 120 as well as normal recording in 8K not just limited to ProRes Raw 8K. This would increase the demand so much more with R5 users and consumers wanting to buy the V+.
@@AtomosChannel Seconding Garizaldy's comment. I purchased the Atmos Ninja V Plus thinking that I could shoot both 8K ProRes Raw and 8K normal ProRes. My fault for not checking. But because I edit in DaVinci Resolve and that doesn't read ProRes Raw, I end up not really being able to use the product as I thought I would. Again, it's on me for assuming you could do 8K non-Raw as well. But for workflow purposes, that now means that I have to edit in Premiere which is possible, but not part of my preferred workflow.
Excellent cooperation between Atomos, Canon and Levi! Congratulations! This upgrade completely changed my R5. 8k and 5k ProRes RAWs are amazing and so easy to working with. Thanks for all the team!
Hi Pawel, Thanks for the positive feedback! It's always great to hear your experiences with our products. I've passed this onto our teams. I'm sure it'll make their day! Cheers, Toby - Atomos
@@AtomosChannel Thank you Toby! 😊 I use your products since many years and this is always a great joy! You are all amazing with huge amount of positive and very inspiring energy! Have a great day! 😊
Fantastic job on a lovely production Levi and the Atomos team. Totally concur with everything discussed. Personally I couldn't recommend Atomos gear more. Just like Levi I started with the original Ninja and it literally changed the way I shoot. Atomos gear always pushes the boundaries of what tech allows at any point in time, but most importantly for me, it has never let me down. Powerful, reliable, highly cost effective. Everyone involved - take a bow! 👏
Hi Rowe Films, Thanks for letting us know! We love to hear positive feedback about our products. I've passed this onto our teams. I'm sure it'll make their day :) Cheers, Toby - Atomos
Levi makes good points about relating to the people he's shooting, and about the freedom from white-balance worries when shooting raw. And of course about recomposing with the extra resolution. Good talk from everyone.
I could't find a way to change the white-balance in numbers or with sliders in Final Cut Pro, except for using the pipet in the "Balance Color" tap, which I my case with a grey card is not so precise. Any help?
@@DanielHager expire through the settings options in the info tab For each clip. There’s all these different options and one of them has raw info like iso and white balance
You hired the wrong guy, shadows are crushed, the green and blue casting is awful, the color grading between scenes doesn't match, the aperture used between shots clash, showing nice bokeh in some and way too sharp between, I can even see some clash between exposure time, I don't believe he used the 180° rule, Peter McKinnon has better shoots. I know the Atomos is great, but this demo, doesn't shine the advantages of RAW in the EOS R5, even I recording some macro shoots of some bees in the grass can produce better results. Sorry for the harsh critic, but I was expecting something better.
All good my dude. Thankfully a lot of creative decisions with doc work is subjective. Technical mistakes aside. My choice in grading is stylistic. That by definition means some may not like it. Perfect is the enemy of done and I’m proud of what we made. I’m excited to see the shots of bees you go shoot
@@Levi_Allen love your work Levi... inspiring for me as someone starting out on documentary style of shooting. As ProRes Raw introduces more noise ( base iso 800) I found shooting with the exact same set up - r5 & V+ there is more noise in comparison to shooting just ProRes 4:22. How do you clean up the noise?
@@Levi_Allen It is not personal, let me elaborate in some of the issues. 1. Emotion, excitement and expectations. Casey Neistat is good at telling stories, his videos used to get his audience engaged, here is an example, listen to the music, notice the passing, the expectation at the beginning, : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vt9ROJ4H82g.html Check his video about the Phantom 4, the music, the passing, it gets you exited about the possibilities of using the drone: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BmjQm5MAq00.html 2. Showing the capabilities and possibilities. Here, Peter McKinnon shows how good the stabilization of the EOS R5 is, riding in the mud: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3sk-JWVSS4c.html Here Matti Haapoja show how good the footage can look using the EOS R with the Atomos with 10bit: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8iUSLOt8GJY.html 3. Shining the product, the technical limits. Jacob + Katie Schwarz are experts showing colorful scenes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tO01J-M3g0U.html Master Phil Holland showing the limits of RED cameras: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UN3uF3990Q0.html 4. Lack of information As an enthusiast, I wanted to know the record limit, if the overheating was an issue, if Resolve finally added ProRes RAW in its studio version and how compatible is the codec in all editors, I found that information from ProAV TV, not in the very same Atomos video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q506tHUp5o4.html 5. In conclusion. The deal of showing that the Atomos Ninja V + can record 8K ProRes RAW from the EOS R5 is to provide the user with footage that shows how good can the final product be, how much dynamic range can be achieved, with clear shadows and nice highlights. I understand that some creative choices were made, but again, I think the idea was to show the capabilities aside of the creative tastes, look how Irene Rudnyk shines the dynamic range and quality of the EOS R5 with the 85mm and 50mm f/1.2 lenses: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_byYwav5ccM.html BTW, I know that for C-log (2 and 3) you have to expose +1 to the right, to avoid crushing shadows, or have always a good monitor with a LUT, I believe that was the issue. I know you can do better, I have seen your work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kGDQCpFfbaA.html Again, not personal, it is a harsh critic that I didn't want to make, but I believe that harsh critic help to improve and I wish you well.
@@RodrigoPolo Not going to say you are wrong from a "technical" stand point. I wouldn't know since I'm not a pro. But I will say this: the doc was freaking amazing. The story and emotion conveyed by the characters on top of the amazing shots, the whole thing inspired me in so many ways. I want to be half as good as Levi as a filmmaker someday, I want to go out in nature. That the doc made me feel so good is what truly matters. Who the fuck cares if the bokeh didn't match from one shot to the other, or if shadows were crushed. Literally only technical nerds will pay attention to that. None of what you described was noticeable or distracting whatsoever from the story to the layman which constitutes 99% of typical viewers. I'm sure you can do all the technical things correctly but can't tell a story worth shit next to Levi's!
Rodrigo as I said in my first response it’s all good my dude. I didn’t take your comment personally. Many more videos will continue to be made about 8k prores with the r5. I hope you enjoy some of those : )
Amazing, everyone, great Job! Levi buddy, no words that doc was amazing! That kind of power in such a small package is the dream. I am working with the baby brother EOS R and original Ninja 5 and I love it. After seeing this I am blown away...
Hi Thru Visual Media, Thanks for the positive feedback! We love to hear that you're enjoying our content and our products. Keep up the great film making. Cheers, Toby - Atomos
Was this shot in 30p? Motion looks way too smooth. My guess is it was shot like this to demonstrate that the Atomos Ninja V+ is capable of 8K30p, but 24p would have been more suitable for this doc.

You need this monitor - the sound its fan makes, like a jet engine - inspiring. Adding weight to the top of the camera, makes you stronger, more professional, more top heavy. The micro-HDMI connection into the R5 - fragile, ready to break any moment: shooting has never been so exciting. Thank you for your purchase.

Good idea but, 1800$ + SSD... and we can't color grading in Da Vinci Resolve with ProRes Raw... so what to do with this raw file at this price? ; 2400$ Ninja V+ & SSD + 4500$ R5 = about 7000$... So the price of the total far exceeds a good cinema camera, RED Komodo, Z-Cam, Canon, BM, etc. What interest then?
Hi there, Thanks for watching and providing us with feedback. We appreciate the feedback you have given us. We will take this onboard for future reference. Cheers, Louis - Atomos
I love the Ninja V+ with the R5, but I'm still struggling with the workflow, because I usually do the post in Resolve. I found a workflow with Final Cut Pro, exporting ProRes 4444 8K files, but because of the huge file size it's not so convenient. For a one day shoot I have easily around 2 TB data plus the ProRes 4444 Files. In my case I have always up to 7 projects going on on the same time, that means I need a huge Raid x2. Can anybody share their workflow? I'm also interested about the correct settings in Final Cut Pro (Camera LUT, Project Setings (Color Space etc.)) Thanks.
At that point, you're almost better off shooting internal 8k raw light and just editing directly from the CF express type B card in resolve. I do it all the time and then the footage never leaves the card and I don't have to wait for transfers. Also, editing from the CF express card is a faster transfer speed than editing from most internal or external hard drives. Also, you get Clog 2 and the glory that is resolve and 12 bit raw!
Hi there, The Ninja V+ has 2 options, 8K & 5K. These are the resolutions that the R5 outputs. The Ninja can record 4K RAW from other cameras, but it always depends on what the camera actually outputs to our recorders. Cheers, Louis - Atomos

Sorry Jose, but that’s not true. With external recording (ninja V) I have had no issues of overheating at all. Hours of continuous recording, no problems at all. I shot 3 hours of continuous 4kHQ footage of an event in full sun in August (25-30C), stopping only to change SSD and battery packs, without a single overheating warning. Wouldn’t work in camera, I grant you, but why would a pay for Tb cards when a Tb SSD is so affordable? Why would a try to check focus on a small screen when I can use a professional monitor recorder. It’s a compact, reliable, cinema camera rig and it works. I have every faith that the V+ will do for 8K what the V does for 4K.
@@richardwillis4198 I agree with Richard. Jose, the R5 doesn't overheat shooting with the Ninja V+. I've been using it since the Canon/Atomos firmware updates.
Yesterday I had the overheat symbol on the screen during a indoor shoot. Then I removed the SD and CFexpress card and it was fine. Still the only downside is the flimsy Micro HDMI on the R5.
