Good old Diesel :-)

I think it would be easiest if you placed it up high near the window, to let the exhaust get out, and then use the ducting to either draw in cold air from the floor or blow hot air down. It seems easier than dealing with a long exhaust pipe and the problems with condensation.

I might have a new plan,,, my windows in the basement does not open :-/
@dennisolsson3119
@dennisolsson3119 11 месяцев назад
The pump might be touching the chassis, which causes it to bang more loudly. Also, to manage expectations: 1 liter of diesel contains about 9.8kWh, so if it consumes 0.5l/h it is about 5kWh. I have no idea where they get the 8 from :) Thirdly: you have a chimney in the basement, right? It could be used for the exhaust.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 11 месяцев назад
I have also heard that this might be more like 5KW,, But I do not have any way of testing that..
@Alpejohn
@Alpejohn 11 месяцев назад
That thing was LOUDE! Sounds like the pump is directly mounted to the metal casing.. Should open it up and mount it in rubber. That would dampen it alot, also you could put some butyl rubber (the stuff they use to dampen cars and metal parts with) to make it sound less clunky.. 🙂

Its a lot more noisy than other makes Ive seen videos of. With that much noise Id suggest mounting it outside and just have the vent into your cellar.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 11 месяцев назад
Mostly I was surprised, by the noise from the fuel pump. The FAN noise,, was a lot when I was running full power,, but on low it was not that bad,, no noise from the exhaust,, and to my surprise absolutely no smoke!! I was a bit afraid of a big cloud of black smoke.

I would put the machine in a weather-proof case outside, and run the air-intake and heat-pipe inside.

I bought 2x for my garage(2 car garage) last year but without the chassis, set them up running off an old computer psu's..... I was hoping to use used oil on them but they were clogging up too quickly; the idea was to use them for supplementary heat, plan to revisit it but my go to for my garage is a torpedo diesel/kerosene heater, works in a similar way but a lot bigger and does not isolate intake or exhaust......
@plasmar1
@plasmar1 11 месяцев назад
for reference old budget thermaltake 450w~ is able to power the 2 just fine; would imagine probably anything 250-350w would do it:P..... peak power is really only while the glow plug is on when first starting up; I've not looked into these heaters in about a year but some of them have hidden menus to adjust settings/etc....

@@MyPlayHouseI run mine with a meanwell HLG 320H-12A powersupply (12V, 22A). Passive cooled, enough power for 2 heaters and bought used for 40€. Also made a diy-muffler for combustion air intake and bought a hot-air muffler for the warm air (get's over 100°C). And i welded a stainless-steel muffler for the exhaust filled with glassfiber that withstand 800°C with ease. I think this muffler will live longer than any heater. As air-duct i use 80mm aluminum drain-pipes.

How well do they heat your garage? I am thinking of buying 2 or 3 for our 2000 sq/ft shop/garage. It never gets too cold here in CA so I think these would be ideal.
@matthiaslange392
@matthiaslange392 11 месяцев назад
@@life_of_riley88 My garage is about 7 by 4 meters and 3 meters high und not isolated. The roof is wood, the walls are brick and there's a 2.5m swinging-door and also a side-door, both of sheet-metal and not isolated. with just one diesel heater (5kW) it heats up from 3°C to 20°C in about 3 hours. the air that the heater produces is 108°C.
@MikkelSV
@MikkelSV 11 месяцев назад
I would recommend you put it outside. Two reasons, you get positive pressure inside the space you are trying to heat, secondly is the lower noise. There isn’t really anything in it that can’t handle water, cause all the electronics are contained in a inner box right next to the heating element
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 11 месяцев назад
I see your points,, I have thought about it... but a lot of heat will also be wasted in from the heater being outside.
@MikkelSV
@MikkelSV 11 месяцев назад
@@MyPlayHouse True true, maybe make a small box outside for it, and have it draw air from the basement and blow it back in. The clicking gets pretty anoying after a while, idk if i should share, but mix a bit of old oil in the fuel, it REALLY REALLY dampens the pump.

If anyone needs shop/basement heating: Buy a cheap Daikin Minisplit from Italy. They make cheaper models for some reason for the italian market only. Models are ATXF/ARXF, ATXC/ARXC, ATXQ/ARXQ, ATXP/ARXP and ATXD/ARXD. Sorted from cheapest to most expensive but also most efficient (SCOP 4.1 to 5.1) choose according to power prices :D dagimarket is one shop that sells them. They are designed for heating to -20°C.

Remember that also the intake needs to get air from the outside or it will draw all the oxygen inside if it is a closed environment.
@juhokestila7367
@juhokestila7367 11 месяцев назад
His basement isn't so tight that air wouldn't be drawn in from outside to replace the air used by the heater. But that air would be cold and need heating using more energy. So from energy efficiency perspective it is wise to place the combustion air intake outside.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 11 месяцев назад
That is not how it works. You only want to use the outside air, to not throw out air that is already heated. Cold air in,, but that is not as important.

Well for best performances on the heat pump, they have to be set at rather low temperature,, and heating a basement from a 35C radiator for a few hours of work down there, would not make much differences,, and keeping it warm all the time,, for those two hours a week I might use it... this is a nices option. (I try to have as many options for heating as I can,, so I can pick what makes sense)

It's very dangerous how you mounted the exhaust. It reaches over 200 degrees celsius and you put it near the fuel line. The exhaust pipe must come out laterally, the air intake pipe goes behind. Be careful when you make these videos some people might set fire to your house. Just read the manual and have a little logic.
