A must have tank for any serious model maker. The Stug III is one of my favorites because of its super low profile. That made them extra deadly. Great footage once again.

Not officially a tank, but one the best looking self-propelled anti-tank guns for sure, the Jagdpanzer IV, Hetzer, low profile ambushers, the IV L70 being my favorite.

If a model StG comes with crew, remember STGs were part of the artillery corps, not the panzer corps, and the correct uniform colour and uniform pattern was artillery grey, not the black overalls of panzer crews.

Later in the war Guderian (while he was Inspector General of Armoured Troops from early 1943) transferred the StuG's to the panzer corps...@@tileux

The village in the first 20 seconds, I recognize as a village, that a know well. I hade to pass it for my trip to work every day. It's located almost in the center of (grand duchy of) Luxembourg. The name labeled on the Hotel, made me take a closer look. In fact: "Larochette" is the name of the village.

they let me inside a Hetzer at the everett tank museum ....and they were so cramped.... the loader had to reach OVER the breach to load the cannon ...because they had to flip it so it could go left/right a tiny bit more --- I COULD NOT imagine being in one and getting shot at .. ugh ... really really brave soilders back then

They are actaul vehicles in Warsaw, it's from a film made after the Warsaw battle and it's pretty much staged.

There’s lots of Stug stories in the Schiffer Press “Panzer Aces” book. Contrary to popular belief, the short barrelled “stump” was well capable of knocking out allied tanks.

6:30 - clip from Finland’s (note Finn’s armored id -black&white short arm swastika) defensive war 1944 southern Karelian isthmus. Against overwhelming odds against Soviets successful attacks. After major withdraw. Even though people believed Finland won defensive victory. Soviets were able to force Finland sue for peace, as its last defensive lines were almost breached. With German help Finns kept their nation free and independent. Avoiding Soviets taking over whole nation. However Soviets forced Finns to declare war against Germany. While giving Germans six months to leave Finnish Lapland.

That is no original sound. The PK Cameras had no Microphone, the sound was added later in the Studio.

Seems like the StuG should have been the German main mass produced tank...especially with the different barrel combo's, track armor covers and low profile.

It wasnt a tank, but only the pzkwIV was produced in greater numbers. STGs were self-propelled artillery and therefore were manned by artillerymen - even after their armament was changed to anti-tank guns and its primary role was changed to tank hunting rather than its original infantry support role. Throughout the war the STGs were part of the artillery corps and their chain of command was artillery., leading to the odd situation that they became tank hunters but always in support of the division they were attached to as artillery support.

Germsny never figured out how to masd produce tanks, they tried with the Panzer 4 and 5 and fsiled, this also because of the Allied bombings.

Short barrel was the original howitzer variant. That was used for infantry support (since StGs are artillery, not panzers). The howitzer was largely useless and was replaced with a PaK anti-tank gun in late 1941/early 1942, at which time the StGs were largely repurposed to a tank hunter role, where they were very effective.

Thats why you have the mute button. And for your information this is all orginal newsreel sound edited in during WW2, the clip at 2:50 is actual real audio recorded then and there.
