In this video, we swapped out the old K20z3 motor for the Japanese K24a (tsx k24a2). This is a 2005 K24 so i bought and installed a 06-08 TSX intake cam, RBC VTC gear, RBC intake manifold 08 TSX throttle body and K20a2 oil pump (RSX).

the first time I did one on the 8th gen it kicked my ass, the second time I pulled the line out with the master as one piece and then separated them outside the car and it was a hell of a lot easier I know this comment is pretty old but maybe itll help someone thats how honda says to do it in the manual.

I just finished my JDM k24A 3lobe cams swap on my 8th Gen coupe.took me about 13 straight hours from 7am till 8:30pm and had to go to honda dealership twice to get some Knock Sensors and oil pressure switch from K20z3

ktuned makes a header for k24 swap 8gen civic , i had to get it . when using the q300 exhaust the mid pipe hits the chassis

Do you think its worth paying $300 for the intake cam? Also, does the basemap run fine with the 50 degree rbc, k20a2 oil pump, and intake cam? I am about to do the same thing and would like your input sir.

It’s completely up to you but personally, I would not pay 300 just for the intake cam. I think that is a bit expensive. As for the base map, it did not run that great on my motor. I kept seeing knock. It was good enough to get the car running and drive it around but I would not continuously beat on the car with a base map. I think a good price for the cam would be ~150-200$

One side i put on the transmission mount and the other on the passenger side mount bracket.

The plm headers like 300 made for a k24 block i know your going budget but they do have the proper header for this build i done one.

Liked and Subscribed! Hey man good video and sweet setup. I'm in the process of doing a K24A2 with a K20Z3 transmission in an EK hatch, but I'm having some trouble figuring out how to make them work together. I've seen some people say you have to use a different gear selector/gear box and modify the transmission to make it work. This doesn't seem to be a very popular setup so there's not a ton of info on it. My engine and trans are still out of the car at this point as I piece together my build... BTW I bought the trans completely refurbished with new synchros and I'm really not trying to open it up or mess with it because I have zero experience with the internal workings of any transmission. I greatly appreciate any info you could give to a n00b. Thanks!!

I think the trans will bolt right up to you motor without any issues. My best guess is you will have issues on the transmission side mount as well with the speedo sensor. I never did this swap in an EK but I would ask Brian from hasport about the mount situation and about how you’re going to resolve the speedometer problem. Bc I think the sensors are way different than, let’s say the rsx transmission. This just an assumption though.

Did you use k20z3 headers do they fit on a k20. Am doing a swap with a k24a rbb2 and i don’t know what type of header to use. Any help would be great. Nice swap.👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Your best bet is to go with either the ktuned k24 header or the plm k24 header. In the video I used skunk 2 alpha but that doesn’t fit right without spacing the rear mount.

Can you transfer over the K20Z3 oil pump or is it not really necessary? Also can you use the oem Z3 header?

You can but it doesn’t make sense to do that as they’re the same pumps. I installed a k20a2 pump in mine. And yes, you can use stock z3 headers.

I know you have answered many off these questions , but im about to do the swap this weekend and want to prepare my self 1. Did you use the water pump housing from the z3? 2. What engine mounts need modifying or do they bolt right up to the k24 3. What oil pump did you use on the k24

Yes. I used the water pump and oil cooler from the z3. You need the crv engine side bracket, the mount itself stays stock. If you have the skunk 2 alpha header, you will need to space it out or it’ll hit the firewall. I have a k20a2 oil pump in mine. In the video I show how I spaced the mount. If that helps

Yes. You have to cut it. Then you have to plug the oil passageway with a bolt. There’s videos about this. If you don’t plug it right you won’t have oil pressure and that’s not good

To bolt up the engine you really just need a 03 crv engine bracket. You can use the stock SI mounts. Other than that. You need flash pro or ktuner. Transfer the crank position sensor, knock sensor and oil pressure sensor.

Hello sir I want to ask u, what's the best rev limiter for k24 on stock oil pump, is it 7600 or 7400 rpm. Because si k20z3 has I think 8300 rpm, so after doing k24 swap what's your rev limit now on k24?

I wouldn’t go passed 7500. It also depends on what rpm the motor stops making power. If you stop making power at 7200, there is no point to rev higher than that. Need to get it dyno tuned to figure that out.

How did you bolt the rear motor mount to the type s pan? I have a k24a (JDM) which I did the type s pump upgrade to. But it doesn’t have where to bolt the motor mount to :(

You have to use the SI k20z3 oil pan if you’re installing the motor in an 8th gen si. There is no other way to mount the rear without it. You can see in the video I’m using the si pan. I bought an extra one off eBay. I also showed what needs to be done if you’re using a skunk 2 header to space out the rear mount bracket that attaches to the pan.

Basically yes. Need to transfer some sensors like I mentioned and get a CRV engine side bracket but that's about it. And of course you will need ktuner or flashpro to load a K24 map. Otherwise it won't run right.

I am swapping my 2010 Acura csx K2.0Z2 for K2.4A2 Acura TSX would the engine wire harness from the honda civic fit & would it work with the K 2.4A2 motor

Good question. I would say yes. But you may have to move some sensors around. Not sure which ones. Might need to research that a bit. I would assume the oil pressure, crank sensor and knock would need to be switched but idk much about those cars.

All you need is the crv motor side bracket from a 2003 crv. The actual side mount can be left stock. The rear motor mount bracket needs to be spaced if you use a skunk 2 header. If you use a k24 swap header you don’t need to space out the rear bracket.

Are you using flash pro? If you are. There are “race maps” in there. If you hit advanced when looking for maps. You check off race maps and it’ll show you more maps. You can use the one they call stock tsx map. Or even the stock k20/k24 map. Just keep an eye on afr so you don’t run lean. You can then edit the fueling as needed until you get a tune.

Took about 3 days. If I didn’t take my time cleaning, painting, replacing clutch master cylinder, figuring out the mount situation, it could be done in one day. If you have everything ready.

I don’t think mounting the trans is difficult, especially if you have the motor and trans out of the car. But people may possibly have issues lining up the input shaft I suppose

Gotcha. What I would check is to make sure you lined the clutch up correctly, using the clutch alignment tool. If the clutch is off center it might be difficult to put the trans on bc the input shaft will not go in easily.

Definitely don’t force it in. Realign the clutch. And then you sort of wiggle the trans onto the motor but it should not go in by force.

This also makes me think maybe the dowel pins got bent? There are dowels that meet in between the block and trans. People tend to bend them. Once they’re bent, it makes it difficult to mate the trans to the motor. Feel free to send pics of what you’re seeing. Maybe that’s you’re issue?

I believe K24A does not have vtec on exhaust and the K24A2 has vtec on both exhaust and intake cams. Can I use my k20z3 head on the K24A2? Or is it only compatible with K24A?

It depends. K24a just means it’s a jdm engine. I have a k24a and my motor has vtec on exhaust and intake. It’s the same motor that a 04-05 tsx has. If you have a k24a that does not have vtec on exhaust, that motor would be the 160hp version, like an 04 accord, or crv. You can use your z3 head on that. Keep in mind, the rods are thinner, there are no oil jets to cool the pistons and the compression may be lower. I’m not 100% on that though.

The K20z3 head will bolt up to any k24 (excluding the earth dreams versions) just use the head gasket that is mean for the block, not the head and you’re set. The combo of k24a2 and k20z3 or k20a2 head is the most common k24/k20 frank combo. It’ll make good power. I stuck with the stock k24a2 head that was already on my motor as it had less miles and just used 08k24a2 cams.

You don’t “need” a different oil pump. The stock one on the 24a2 will work fine. You will need to swap the oil pan due to where the rear motor mount is. People swap oil pumps for the k20a2 oil pump because they allow the engine to spin to higher rpm without causing oil cavitation

@@chillitown7091 you will not want to run it on the stock map made for the k20z3. Make sure to have flash pro and load a k24 map on it. Then get a tune. I would not beat on the car with a base map. The fuels are most likely off and you could be running lean which will damage the motor.

Whatever the motor in your area costs. Plus flash pro and crv motor side bracket. All else is optional. I did a bunch of extra mods but those aren’t required for the swap

I got the car tuned at xenocron. There is a video posted with it on the dyno and the results. Just search it on the channel I named it something like k24 civic dyno or something like that.

I’m not 100% sure. I do know that I most likely spent more than some people would bc I did optional things like, installing type s oil pump, 08 tsx cams, RBC timing gear, modified crank gear with longer channel key, FIC injectors. Motor cost 1050 but I ended up selling the k20 and made most of that back.

If you already have flash pro, find a k24 and put the k20 head on it. That’s if there is nothing wrong with your head.

Those clutch master cylinders are trash they tend to pop the top gasket

Yeah for sure. Not even 2 days later it blew again. I went with the hybrid racing one. No issues since

It’s just an android head unit from eBay. They sell them specifically for the 8th gen civic. But you will need to mod the harness bc it’s not made to work with the stock amp.
