The editing here is amazing. It's the little things. Not just "It's too quiet" and Mr Peanut that everyone is talking about, but also:
• Oh, would you look at Washington. I'm going outside today.
• Happy 100th birthday. His fondest memory is going to the airport and flying with student pilots [the hyjackers took flight lessons not long before the event]
• molly is 100 too and loves politics [then she'll "love" what happens next] • football health/safety report. "Playing through injury can be detrimental to a child" [CTE anyone? It was about water and staying hydrated, but the idea behind it is the connection]
• Freddie Mac [2008 financial crisis which involved Fanny May and Freddie Mac]
• "It doesn't occur to children that their dreams might not come true" [lives lost, the world changing, and adults never dreamed what would happen either]
• net neutrality being talked about back in 2001 • early days of prescription medication commercials
• Get a second mortgage to pay off your debts! [Yes, more debt to pay your debt, and tie it to your house! Also, something something housing crisis foreshadowing]
• everything said from 12:10 - 13:00 • [reserving this space to edit in more observations]

As of around 0830h, a considerable number of people in the North Tower were just walking into the office and getting ready to start work. If the authorities got it right, Mr Juan Lafuente was walking towards the North Tower with the purpose of going to WOTW to take a look at a conference-exhibition. (He was not known to have formally registered) If Dr Sneha Ann Philip was indeed at the North Tower, which a court much later decided it was likely, as of around 0840h, instead of going home at 225 Rector Place, she decided to walk a few minutes to take a look at WOTW on a whim. Based on timing, it was suggested that perhaps Mr Lafuente had stepped out of the elevator at WOTW for while Mdm Sneha could still be inside the lift when the plane crashed in. I highlighted these 2 cases partly because these 2 persons had no known normal direct connection to the Towers, unlike the people who worked there or 1st responders who arrived. Among those who survived, no one recalled ever seeing them and their remains as of 2024 had not been identified.

I’m from Iraq, I was 6-7 years old so I don’t remember much, but I do remember how my dad was shocked watching the twin towers on tv, and how he told my mom “this will change the world, it will never be the same” and it really changed the world and our family’s world because 2 years later USA came to Iraq and a year or so later my mom joined the US Army because since she was younger she was obsessed with everything related to USA, like movies, music, etc so her American English was perfect and the US Army needed some help from people who spoke both languages so she applied and when they left around 2009 we had to leave with them because my family was in danger, some people hated those who worked with the US Army, I remember us being followed by some men with guns (probably saddam hussien’s followers, because many people loved him and hated how the US Army took him out) at night whenever my mom came home from work we all went together to bring her home (my, my dad, and younger brother) now im not sure if the USA was going to Iraq anyways because of WMD because it wasn’t necessary for 9/11 since Iraq didn’t have anything to do with it and none of the hijakers was from iraq, but I just know that I’m a proud Iraqi-American, me and my brother both finished college. The government definitely didn't cut the feed because it was "too horrific"-- they didn't care about things like that. They used gore on a daily basis for traffic safety bulletin boards, for example. My guess is it had to be political. I’ll never forget it. I was in the 10th grade in California at the time. I woke up at 6am, my grandma watching news telling me that a plane hit the WTC. All I can think about was whats up with all these plane crashes because Aaliyah just died in a plane crash a few weeks prior. I get in the bathroom and then my grandma yelled at the TV saying “no no this isn’t an accident”. I turned on the radio to see if they were talking about it and the radio host said that a small plane hit one building and they were being told that a second plane hit. After they announced it, the song “There You’ll Be” by Faith Hill from the Pearl Harbor movie was playing, which in retrospect was very eerie. I get on the bus everyone silent listening to the radio. This is when I find out that there were both commercial airliner planes and that put a knot in my stomach. Get off the bus, no one is outside and then my friend asked if I saw what was happening. Up to this point I only heard about what was happening through the radio. This is when I saw it live and I remember the fear I had when I saw the towers burning. I’ll never forget when one of my classmates said “Looks like its World War 3” which is effing creepy because in the Pearl Harbor movie when the ships were attacked, the actor said “Looks like World War 2 just started”. I was so scared when he said that because the next thought I had was that if there’s a war, my mom might have to since she was in the Air Force. I went to my English class because the TV was bigger and that when I saw the South tower go down. Still glued, I was praying that the other tower doesn’t fall and when it did, me and probably all of America felt hopeless. The rest of the day, probably weeks everything was just a blur. I was still processing that Ive never seen people die on live TV before. They say “Never Forget” but I honestly think no one could even if you wanted to.

It was the era of the "computer room" where you "went" online, and /offline/; before the internet was sewn into the fabric of daily life. There were Nokia cell phones and cathode ray televisions. It was just about the peak of "monoculture", kind of the defining event in fact, when the whole country and the whole western world had a homogenous experience of mass media.
@PaulGaither
@PaulGaither 14 дней назад
@@loganstrait7503 It’s fascinating to reflect on how different things were back then. What’s your take on how these shifts have impacted our sense of community and connection?
@loganstrait7503
@loganstrait7503 13 дней назад
@@PaulGaither I tend to be techno-cynical, with the integration of internet and cell tech into daily life being essentially a power-grab by the big corporations. It's a way for an oligopoly to dictate the terms of our behavior and create a perpetual "coerced" contract/account with every single American. Like you're practically not "allowed" to just opt-out of having a cell phone and a WiFi connection and 5G and the bills that go with all that. And as people become accustomed to being able to reach any and all of their loved ones at all times, they become unable to make plans that don't involve such connectivity. If I arrange to meet my friend at 3PM on a Sunday, I can't just show up at 3; I have to be constantly in contact with him in the hours leading up to that time. The same goes with dating, which results in people feeling like they can't just trust each other. And don't get me started on online dating. All of this has gotten especially gruesome since the end of Net Neutrality and the transformation of social media and sites like RU-vid into what are essentially just business media platforms, like the old ones but different. And in the world of TV/movies, the streaming paradigm has metastasised into being essentially the same thing as the cable tv paradigm that it replaced. Like we've come full circle. I'm a musician: it's easier than ever to produce and release music, but it's harder than ever to get anybody to listen to what you've made, or to care about it, or to make any money at all off of it. So on the whole I think we're in a worse spot in those terms than we were at the dawn of the millenium. But this is how it's been for my whole adult life; I came of-age during the Trump presidency.

About 20 minutes later our teacher told us what actually happened. He told us how significant an event this was (we were 14 and didn't know much better) and that it would likely be a turning point in world history. How right he was. We carried on with our sports practice, then went back to the locker rooms to get changed. Walking out again to catch my bus, I walked past the groundskeeper's hut where he was listening to the radio and I overheard the news saying that both towers had now collapsed. Got home and saw even more on TV. It was very shocking for me because I'd had my first ever trip to New York in July 2001 and was absolutely fascinated by the Twin Towers. I was 7 when 9/11 happened and lucky to be sleeping in Australia. It would have happened at nearly 11pm our time. I woke up to my mum crying watching the TV. We were able to wake up to more understanding of what had happened and both towers down. I remember my teacher sitting us down trying to explain what happened to a bunch of little kids. Its impact was powerful even over here in Australia. I can’t imagine how painful and scary it would have been in NYC and America

I was only 7 when the horrific event happened, but I always hear people 18 plus and older saying how there was a freeness about society, that changed into a largely tensed and suspicious one and has stayed that way ever since.

still remember my mom, who was 17 at the time, saying she just woke up from a nap as the second plane hit. she thought she was dreaming at first and immediately called my nana to tell her to turn on the radio, she worked in a plant and none of the workers were aware of what happened.

and also i find that the people on the bottom floor were most likely blessed they work there, anyone above or near wouldve had massive injuries and/or ruptured eardrums, and there’s a story of a person who worked in the twin towers who was a few hours late due to severe traffic, heard the event and just turned right around and went home. he was probably relieved.

the innocence of the people when everything just started, not knowing exactly what happened, just wondering and speculating, "it looks like an explosion", "we believe an aircraft just hit the tower", "we don't know if it's an accident", is just heartbreaking and gives me chills.

And nothing has been the same in this modern world ever since that so many us happily took for granted without a second thought; 9/11 made many of us fortunate souls fully aware that life is indeed a present that should never be assumed where a tomorrow cannot be guaranteed..let us count our blessings as we breathe and may joy fill our hearts where we are open to receive it..never forget💙🇺🇸🙏🏼🗽⚖️🦅

The first plane hit, and no one had an idea when watching the programmes on TV or around the world what just happened. Only those on the ground and towers saw heard felt first impact. We've no idea the hell those on these planes feared and faced. Even now 23 years on its still grasp the reality of 9/11.

I was in 5th grade on 9/11 and the teachers chose not to share the news with us until the very end of the school day. I lived in Philadelphia at the time and many of my classmates' parents worked in NYC, so many of them left school early that day, but I didn't really understand why until I got home and saw the news. Honestly, I didn't really understand at the time. It's wild for me to watch this now

I’m from Thailand and got told from my parents, when they weren’t having kids at the time they were chilling and watching the hit soap operas TV together around 9-10 p.m. They were enjoying their TV and also feel tired from their day then there’s a serious breaking news interrupting the soap said from New York, United States, showing the live burning buildings and a few minutes later there’s a plane appears crashing into the tower, people screaming, begging they said they were shocked and people in Thailand just witnessed the historic reality-bending shape-shifting event altogether just from watching the national favorite hit TV show on regular Tuesday night.

I was a freshman in college in PA. We only knew each other for a few weeks at that point. What I remember so vividly is not being able to get a hold of anyone. All day! I desperately wanted to get a hold of my family in NJ. If you weren’t there, it’s hard to explain that before social media, you could really only get real time updates if you could find a tv somewhere. (There was the radio of course, but it was wasn’t the same). It was all just so sad. You would think you’ve ran out of tears, then another family is on the news begging for any kind of update…

I am from germany and was 8 years old. Noisy with my brother in my moms car when we heard the news on the radio. This evening we weren't allowed to watch kids TV and we wondered why. It's so unfair what happened that day. I hope there is an afterlife and every victim (except the murderes) enjoy heaven. We will never forget this day and we should never forget events like this. Things that happen in war nowadays and happened in world war 1 and 2. Too many people had to suffer. We just have this planet earth so do everything you can to get peace...
