I just did this with a 3/8 dyna bolt (couldn't find 10mm), some spacers and a larger metal spacer i found at ace hardware to sit flush against the water pump face and washers. The trick is to put the water pump half with the mechanical seal in boiling water. Remove it from the fire and let it sit in the water for 5min. The metal seal came out way too easy. I bet you could actually just use pliers on the seal if you losen up the locktight on the mechanical seal like putting it in hot water.

Not hardly, did you even watch the video? It's called a mechanical seal, not an oring. Definitely not simple at all. But thanks for commenting anyway.

Thank you for uploading this video. I have an oil leak coming out of the weep hole. I assume the oil seal in the housing has gone bad. Do you have any tips on how to remove the water seal 4:13 and the oil seal underneath it? Hammering it out?...

When you install the water pump back on it does the weep hole stay out of the engine or does it go inside? I feel like when I changed mine that something was wrong because the back of the water pump doesn’t seat all the way up to the engine. There’s a little gap where you can see the weep hole.
@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 4 года назад
Weep hole stays outside, that way no water can go inside crankcase and mix with oil. When either seal goes bad, it will leak water or oil out weep hole depending which is bad, but not allow any in the engine. And vise versa no oil mixes with water. You have to make sure you line up the notch in the shaft that turns the pump with the one inside the engine. Then the flange will be flush with engine.

Check and make sure it's not coming from the weep hole underneath the pump halfway to the engine case. If it is coming from the bolt then it must be the gasket

i got quite a lot of oil coming from what seams to be behind water pump, more when it was on the sidestand than when the bike was right up. After quick ride, when hot. Can you ride a motorcycle like this for a mile or two to the service?
@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 Год назад
As long as the bike has oil in it, a small leak won't hurt to ride it to the shop.

brother a question I have that motorcycle in 2007 when I add coolant to the radiator it goes directly to the machine in the magic eye of the oil you can see it mixed with the oil I want to know if I remove the pump and do it you can see what the problem is is it in the pump?
@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 2 года назад
It can't be the waterpump seal because it's designed to leak outside of bike not inside, it's most likely the freeze plug. If not freeze plug, it can be head gasket or the oil cooler. Check out my other video here to understand: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pj2y_q5HF84.html

@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 3 года назад
Sorry just responding, like I told the other guys, I never received notifications about these comments. Anyway I don't believe I made a video of the Installation, but it did fix the oil leak. But as you can see in the other videos of this project, it had a freeze plug that popped out inside the motor and was pumping all the coolant into the oil, so I was able to figure that out, and get that freeze plug back in its place under the cam shaft with no damage done to the engine.

I know this video is old but if coolant gets inside the motor does that mean the engine is not fix or usable ??? Thanks
@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 5 месяцев назад
If you catch it quick enough, then flush all the contaminated oil out and replace with fresh oil after the repair, then you will be ok. However if you don't catch it soon enough and run the bike with the coolant cycling through your bearings It's most certainly going to do damage to the bearings. Now that could be slight damage or it could be severe damage and start causing a knock issue. A knock is when there is so much damage to the bearings that it has actually caused excessive clearance between the worn bearing and the crankshaft that allows the 2 to slap together and that's the knock you hear. Now, even at this point, the engine actually still runs, but as it does it will eventually get worse and cause catastrophic failure. I know people who have got small knocks in there engines and added thicker oil and took it easy on there engine and still rode them for years like that, but eventually they always get worse until they final die. So in summary it's possible to get coolant in the oil and never do damage if caught quick enough, it's also possible that if it did slight damage, that the engine would still run for years, but you would always be waiting for that day when it just let's go on you. Getting coolant in the oil can also damage cylinder walls, piston rings, camshaft, ect, any parts where lubrication is critical. Hope this answers your question some what. Thanks for watching 🐲

@@thedragon2299 thank you. I just got my bike ready for the spring I have had no issues amd then bam i have coolant in the oil so now I am trying to figure out what to do. To replace the engine and install it would cost as much as i paid for the bike. So I'm torn between just trying to find the issue and replace the oil. Or get a new engine or sell the dam thing. I did the oil change like 3 months ago and didnt see any coolant and only rode it a hand full of times because of the weather. Them I went to take it out a few days ago and it started ruff then idled bad then died. That's when i found the coolant in the oil.
@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 5 месяцев назад
@joshferguson2870 ok, well that's good info for diagnostics. Ok, so usual something like the freeze plug or water pump goes bad and causes coolant to mix with oil, but that does not affect the way it runs. The other way coolant mixes with oil is through a blown head gasket or cracked head or block, which can also cause coolant to get into combustion chamber and affect the way the engine runs. You can pull out your spark plugs and 1 or more are going to look funny because the coolant may be getting on it. That's one way to check to see if that's where your problem is. It sounds like you caught the problem quick enough that it didn't hurt the bearings, but you may have a bad head gasket, or even a bad head. Another thing you can do is a compression test or leak down test to find out if you have a bad head or head gasket. The problem most people have is they can't figure out where the coolant is mixing with the oil, this bike in the video was easy because it was just a freeze plug that I had to re install. I didn't have to pull the head or anything. But you saying that the bike ran bad and then shut off makes me think coolant fouled out a spark plug or 2. You didn't say the engine locked up, so I assume it still turns? I would start with a Proper compression test. There are many videos out there that show how to do it, the testers are cheap and sometimes auto zone will loan them for free. Let me know what you find.

So if there is coolant in the cylinder could it still be the water pump ? And I seen that the hole in the water pump stops it from being the coolant issue dang do understand what I'm asking smh

hi, i recently bought a 2007 600 gsx-r in a poor condition, so i replaced spark plugs, oil, coolant, filters etc ... i'm having a similar problem... oil seems to be fine, things is, after i finished with the bike, fluids level ok and everything, i took for a spin and i noticed my coolant level really droped, and cant figure where that coolant went... should i check the water sealant on the water pump?
@elmerbalentina5574

IF the waterseal from the waterpump is bad, than it should drip coolant out of this small hole.
@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 3 года назад
So sorry for just getting back to you, never saw the notification for your comment. Probably too late, but this bike ended up having a freeze plug pop out inside the engine which allowed all the coolant to be pumped into the oil. That could be where your coolant went. Hope everything worked out.
