Some children struggle academically, there were schools that best suited these kids needs and focused on their strengths. Schools have forgotten this! Schools with different programs should collaborate more to ensure children don't fall through the cracks. Success breads success, bring back technical school programs Stop trying to use the same die for every child!

Ya you can thank the ANC for that. The ANC thought it was an insult to acknowledge facts. So instead of actually helping kids with learning issues, they chose to be woke and believe that schooling was just a piece of paper...hence the 30 % pass. You can see it with our former president not even having primary school... Schooling is seen as unimportant and the attitude towards academics is almost resented.

The policy states that a child can't fail more than once in a phase. So if a child repeats Gr.1, he can't repeat again in that phase. So he gets progressed every year, even if he doesn't meet the minimum standards. Then he can fail again in Gr. 4 and gets progressed every year again until Gr.7, which he can then fail and repeat. So, yes, there can be learners who technically never progressed on merit, but gets progressed because of number of years in the phase. This is a huge problem and the children are so entitled, they will say to the teacher: "I don't have to learn, because you can't fail me again." In the end you get a whole generation of entitled people who think they can get anything they want without putting in the work. That is the reality. We sit with a generation where a huge percentage of people can't read with comprehension, but they want jobs! They can't think for themselves or problem-solve, they want everything for free. This is a time bomb waiting to explode. This is what the government created with their policies and their education system.

This silly system is churning out adults that are attuned to failing

But this is what the ANC wants. Keep the population uneducated then they are dependent on the government. That way they will always vote for that particular government. A population that can't read and write, doesn't know what the government is doing and can't think for themselves. They can be manipulated.

Teach them basic reading, writing and arithmetic. If you can't read you cannot learn anything. Focus on reading. (On a side note, If your child cannot read fast enough to learn then Tina Cowley Centre helped my children. Maybe the government should consult them to catch up

We need to see this number in context. About 92,000 are in grade 12 this year in the E Cape. About 10% have never passed an exam. They will form part of the approximately 20% who will fail at the end of this year.

This is like the latest changes that forces any person with a criminal record even multiple to be allowed to get a job or be denied retrenchment if staff feel threatened. Now we have to deal with 3%rs since 30 aint low enough... This is why investors are not investing in the BEE redtape the cost of training is billions and the results are pennies. Prezuma education HG/SG we had an average 50% matric rate 1994-2007. These kids of all races atleast had minimum 50% qualifications. Blacks were also easily absorbed in the job market training was also more affordable. 2007 19.6% unemployment rate vs 33%. 1994-2007 2 presidents and a temp who made an average 3.5% economic growth. Our last 6 months had a 0% growth or 0.6 yearly. Its clear zuma and cyrils job was to screw the masses why Cyril celebrated going from 1.4 to 28 million on grants and the crowd cheered.

This is the system in the UK. You progress according to your age and they better educated than SA children.

A child may only repeat once during a phase of 3 years. This is a very bad system. (A retired teacher).

South Africa is a little out of date. UK, Ireland and I believe the rest of Europe, you in class according to your age, no repeating any year. Even if you have never been to school at age 15, you going to the class according to your age. Its amazing how kids catch up in no time. makes you wonder about our out dated system of education.
@bevturner2258
@bevturner2258 Месяц назад
But these children are not catching up, that is the point! When these children are assessed they are failing. The repeated failures prove they have not caught up…

@@bevturner2258 Then the problem is not diagnosed correctly. The point being made here is that progression of pupils is not the real problem, there is something else at play.

@@itumelengseeco2844 Education is a difficult Department for sure. We now have a new Cabinet Minister in charge of Basic Education. I’m pinning my hopes on Siviwe Gwarube of the DA. She’s young, and hopefully she’ll be the breath of fresh air we need.

Sums up SA education: "in 2021, 1,575 unqualified and underqualified teachers were teaching in schools across the country." "only 55% of South African teachers performed at the same level as grade 4 children internationally" BEE employment and 30% education and 20% math requirements showing amazing results. 2014 DA found only 24% of matrics would pass on the older pass requirements. 5x50s 2x40s

Something else at play?-learners with low IQs are expected to perform exactly the same as everyone else,teachers are not properly equipped to teach,little or no qualified remedial teachers(wealthier communities can afford to send children to remedial classes, in poorer communities children receive little or no assistance) the teacher/pupil ratio is crazy(in some cases 1 teacher to 80 learners,)learners are not interested in learning,some are extremely undisciplined and disruptive,not enough text books so that each learner can have his own book,high absenteeism rate,most schools have no fully equipped media centres,no science labs,no computer rooms,many children attend school without having had breakfast or any full meals for that matter,teachers are demotivated because they get little or no support from the education department or from parents,many parents (not all)are apathetic re getting involved with their childrens schooling,to many teachers today teaching is a job not a calling.,the CAPS curriculum,the doing away with teachers training colleges which placed an emphasis on methodology rather than on acadamia(acadamia was important but methodology was also important),lack of teaching materials in most schools,learners not having basics to help them function in the classroom(pencils,pens,crayons rulers,glue,maths sets,pairs of scissors ,parents have the final say as to whether or not their child must repeat a yearWhen this hsppens year after year and the child does not receive early intervention re learning he will never catch up.A rather long list of "something else that is at play."All the best to our young,new minister of education who is expected to fix this mess ASAP by those who are against her because she is DA..(@@itumelengseeco2844
