I was watching an old video of Earl racing Shane to 100. And I noticed Earl can kick He sure don't miss many hits no matter how hard or impossible it might seem. He's favored to hit it.
@trumanhw
@trumanhw Год назад
Yup. Everyone gets annoyed and impatient sometimes when kicking an unearned safe ... but on top of (as you said) hitting with any speed, angle, spin, etc., is that he chooses routes conducive to either separating the balls, freezing the cue ball, or making the object ball ... as there are almost always easier routes from which to just hit the ball (that'd also sell out far more often). I think Earl prefers pockets that aren't overly deep or flared (spitting out balls) ... as he likes a fast pace rather than those slower, more tedious styles of pool that some people embrace.

Nobody likes watching slow paced players which is about half the player base now days , I wish earl was in his prime playing on todays equipment which the advanced shafts n stuff . Same with Keith mccready, don’t let his odd mechanics fool ya , Keith could flat out play some pool with the best of em .

Honestly, Schmiddy and J. Jones are two of my favorite commentators. I know John personally, too, but, I'd think he's awesome regardless. And John is one of the funniest people I've ever heard when he wants to be. (last, it's nice to hear Jones give credit to Mark Wilson's insightfulness -- I believe it was during the HK challenge at that).

John ... "We can bet." LMAO. Jeremy's super smart, but -- I agree with John here; the CB has no idea what your arm did. Game 10 (Nguyen scratched from 8-9 ball) ... WTF?? All he had to do was hit that with slow high-outside to go above the side.
@Krushard
@Krushard Год назад
Easy to judge from the chair but I actually scratched this exact shot more times than I'm willing to admit, lol. Because of where the 9 is, ideal position is to come below the side but if you misjudge the cut the outside spin doesn't grab enough and cue ball ends up higher, close to the middle pocket. He should have known this at his level, obviously.

JJ is absolutely right. As you stroke the cue ball, the object ball will observe your stroke and will decide if it will skid or not. At 58:45, Phuc moved his shoulder too much causing the stroke to look ugly. The object ball clearly felt repulsed by this, thus it decided to skid. It's simple quantum mechanics folks.

chalk I would say 99% of the time.... that or more.... have seen "foreign" material cause one, too. Like dirt or something other than a well polished smooth finish on a ball. But stroke?? Nope. Love ol JJ but stroke aint never gonna cause one to skid. Maybe he really means "miss" bc a poor stroke can damn sure cause that. lol
@John-jl4to
@John-jl4to Год назад
@@williambarnes-fg3oh you're absolutely 110% right William it's the chalk or dirt or handle or something but it's a foreign substance that makes the ball skids nobody can make a skid happen on demand with their stroke and I'll bet ten thousand on that and you are spot-on
@chriscolabella880
@chriscolabella880 Год назад
Disagree. If you stun the cueball so it's not rotating at the point of contact you get static friction. Very often this pushes the pot thick. When learning snooker I was taught to play with outside or top spin to break the static friction and 'straighten' the pot. This is much more a thing in snooker where the balls are smaller, you use the rail less, and you generally play with much less spin.
@John-jl4to
@John-jl4to Год назад
@@chriscolabella880 exactly it's the friction between the balls is what causes skids it's not the stroke if somebody uses Town chalk you will never get skids I don't care how you hit them which is what Jeremy Jones cannot seem to comprehend

@chriscolabella880
@chriscolabella880 Год назад
Any snooker player would agree with JJ about the skids. If you play a 'soft stun' where the cueball is sliding, not rotating at the point of contact with the object ball, then more often than not, you get static friction, which will push the pot thick. When learning snooker we're actually taught to use side or top spin not to control the cueball off the rail, but to break the static friction at the moment of contact and 'straighten' the pot. It's way more noticeable when the table is bigger, the pockets are tighter, the balls are smaller, the cloth is thicker, you use the rails less and generally use less spin. Precise position is less important, but accurate pocketing from distance is critical.
@John-jl4to
@John-jl4to Год назад
This isn't snooker this is pool if you remove the chalk from the equation then the skids go away and I'm willing to bet 10000 on this
@chriscolabella880
@chriscolabella880 Год назад
@@John-jl4to It's billiard balls hitting billiard balls. Though the equipment in snooker makes these kind of contacts more likely. You're right in that the majority of skids are caused by chalk, but they happen with clean equipment on an off angle soft stun, and the ball will be pushed thick, just as it is here.
@chriscolabella880
@chriscolabella880 Год назад
@@John-jl4to In particular watch what happens when he pots the pool ball using a stun, as opposed to with draw or with English
@John-jl4to
@John-jl4to Год назад
@@chriscolabella880 please don't be offended Chris but I played professional pool for 27 years and I've played tons of snooker ran many centuries on the 6 by 12 the snooker balls are smaller therefore more skids as the chalk takes up more space on the little balls the kicks or skids are caused by chalk which is why the snooker pros are switching to taom chalk.
@chriscolabella880
@chriscolabella880 Год назад
@John Not offended at all: don't worry mate, it's a discussion, we're allowed to disagree! I'm not saying kicks/skids are not caused by chalk. The vast majority are. I'm saying you can get a heavy contact, which will push the pot thick regardless of chalk, if you play certain angles certain ways. Did you watch the clip I posted above? Literally shows what I'm talking about, without chalk, in slow motion.
