Siskiyou County is located at the top of California, right on the Oregon border, and is full of amazing hiking trails. The county surrounds Mt Shasta, which is the volcanic peak that is the areas focal point and the hikes range from waterfalls and lakes to massive granite domes. While this is by no means a complete list, it should help you to find a new hike in the county and help you see how stunning the area is to explore. Let me know what I left off in the comments.

Those ultra mountains on the west coast are a sight to behold on TV, I would probably bawl like a child at viewing from the top of Mt. Shasta.

I took the east vista point trail in castle crags state park. I was on a road trip and just needed a bathroom break, a picnic spot and to stretch my legs. This fit the bill perfectly. It’s a beautiful trail up to a nice view of the castle crags. Also had a good view of Shasta from there as well. It’s a very easy trail for almost any level. Only about a quarter mile long. Elevation gain is like 33 feet. Nice dirt trail. Well maintained

I had the pleasure of climbing Mt. Shasta back in 1996 and I can say it was definitely the highlight of my climbing career. We climbed it June of 96 and had 20ft of snow just at the parking lot at Bunny Flat and it did not get any easier from there, even though it was June there was still a real avalanche danger especially on the accent to Helen Lake at 10,000ft in avalanche Gulch. I remember the climb up the Red Banks during the early morning as both super cold and super thrilling, one wrong step and it's a long fall back to base camp. When you do make the summit the view from the top is one of the best in California because your over 14,000ft with no other real mountain around you. I have climbed other peaks with awesome views like Mt. Whitney, Mt. Dana, Mt. Hoffman, Mt. Tallac but Shasta definitely had the best views. I am not sure if the Trinity Alps are in Siskiyou County but it's in the same area bur that's also a incredible beautiful place to hike and backpack. I recommend the hike to L lake in the Canyon Creek area because it's one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen and I have backpacked a lot of the Sierra Nevada and Big Sur and the Trinity Alps are spectacular.

Thanks for the comment and for sharing your experience! I agree, the views up on Shasta are stunning! I want to explore more of the Trinity Alps but I haven't had a chance to do much there yet myself.

@@californiathroughmylens thanks Josh! I definitely would recommend the Trinity Alps because they are like a "mini Sierra Nevada" with granite peaks , lush forests and even a small glacier on Thompson Peak which is the only glacier in the entire California coastal ranges( there are glaciers in Olympic range but that's up north). I highly recommend the Canyon Creek area, believe me you will get your mind blown🤯 but in a good way😆

I just did a road trip from Ventura County to Silverton, Oregon. Took the 5 all the way and finally saw the Northern part of California. The Mount Shasta area is awesome. I stopped in Redding to see and film the Sundial Bridge that you pointed out on your video of your trip from Portland to L.A. Northern California looks way different then Southern California. Awesome as always Josh!

Castle Crags State Park is one of my favorite spots to camp and hike when I’m traveling between Oregon and SoCal

We've done several of these trails and love exploring this area. McCloud River Falls is one of our favorite places to have a picnic and just get out for an easy stroll in nature. Also hiked the dome trail at Castle Crags (that's definitely more strenuous). Another one to check out is the hike from Castle Lake to Heart Lake. It's not too long, but it's all uphill to Heart Lake. The payoff, however, is a spectacular view of Mt. Shasta. I highly recommend!

Check out Burstarse falls in Castle Crags, it’s my favorite hike after Castle Dome. I’ve been up to the dome a dozen or so times, and it never gets old. You can camp at the base and watch the sunrise from behind the mountain if you’re up early enough. Super cool to see you highlight my county.
