In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead.
Male-pattern baldness
Women tend to lose hair along the part.
Female-pattern baldness
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) is sometimes preceded by itchy or painful scalp.
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)
Repeated stress on the hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.
Traction alopecia
t's becoming increasingly common for menopausal women to experience frontal fibrosing alopecia, in which the hairline moves back.
Frontal fibrosing alopecia
Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.
Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:
Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.
When to see a doctor
See your doctor if you are distressed by persistent hair loss in you or your child and want to pursue treatment. For women who are experiencing a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia), talk with your doctor about early treatment to avoid significant permanent baldness.
Also talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your or your child's hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.
People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out.

Hi Jake, what hair system would you recommend me if I do a lot of sports? I am thinking about getting a hair system but I am always a bit nervous about the posibillity that it could fall off during a football (soccer) match or while going on holiday (for example to Greece or Spain, where it's hot + see water). I am not rich and definitely don't earn as much money as ppl in the US. Therefore I can not afford one buying every 2-3 months.

@freddie7145

Hi Jake, I agree with everything you said. I wore one for many years. I started in the 90's and back then you did not just use the tape. She used to shave the top of my head and then she would make a braid with fishing line. Then the inside of the unit all around the edge was rubber and she would use a sewing needle, insert the fishing line through the rubber, and into the braid all around the back of my real hair. The front piece she used sticky tape on both sides with some glue added to the tape. My scalp at times used to get so itchy when I would pick the front up to change the tape before I glued the front back down I had a separate toothbrush and I would dip it in a bottle of alcohol and brush the whole top of my head and go back as far as I could to kill the itch before retaping the front. I brushed it very gently because the hairs do fall out and of course don't grow back. The sun and washing the unit would fade the color so you had to color every month. She charged me 20.00 for each color. I watched her do the coloring and I started to color it myself. i told her my niece was a hairdresser and she would color it. i did a better job in the color than she did. The maintenance fee every month back then was about 45.00 plus the tip. I stopped doing it like 13 years ago. Screw her. Today I see on YT people put them on themselves. I am still not bald on the top of my head but the hair is thin.

I like v-looped ultra thin skin systems because they're the most comfortable and have the most realistic hairline, but I CONSISTENTLY have problems with the side part, at least on the stock units. They're advertised as "freestyle", but that part is NOT adjustable. It won't budge from where it is, and it's usually not in exactly the right spot and doesn't look right. Is there anything I can do about that (OTHER THAN slicking my hair straight back with gel to hide it)? Would a custom unit be less likely to have this problem? Would I HAVE TO order a permanent part?

Dude, the hairline looks great raised! I, personally, do the four finger test (index finger to pinky placed on forehead), and I place them above my eye brows. I dot my hairline right above the last finger. As for salons, I did my research. I read a ton of reviews. My place offers a fair price, and they do an excellent job. However, I know a good 10 of them that are horrible. One pretends to be a “luxury salon”...yet the pieces look awful lol. Great vid and info!

I get a year out of every system by taking care of them. I remember a friend telling me it looked like I was losing hair because so much fell out. and that was on a swiss lace piece I got at a salon with bleached knots. with the exception of this piece I got in September that this stylist destroyed, I couldve gotten 2 years out of the same model. threw it out unfortunately. I have never had a swiss lace that retained most of its hair until I ordered this model on Amazon. Thé piece I had on before thé one thé stylist ruined(same model as before) I couldve gotten 2 years out of it but like an idiot threw it out. I actually abuse this piece to get the hair to thin out. Ive used Ross and Nancy on Amazon..not the best but serves my needs def wanna try lavivid. I almost always go for thicker density because I know in 6 months hairs gonna fall out...yes you have tp dye the hair but you can definitely get 2 years out of them. A 90% density a year max. A 130% density is harder to style to look real but can be done...thick hair on the sides and thick beard and knowing how to make them look thinner in thé beginning..unfortunately my expérience with nonsurgical hair replacement stylists is that they know how to blend and do a template but cant style. I am wearing thé same piece since I started commenting on your channel a few months now ..tweaked it along thé way grew my failed undercut out and cut the basé à little..parting it To thé left instead of to thé right..less bangs and compared how I look now compared to the pièces I had cut in at salons for 12 years and looks just as good. I know in one of your vidéos you mentioned how theres always more of a challenge on thé side you part it and notice you never show us that side..show us..I agree with you.just intérested how you do thé part. I think because I forgot To get bleached knots thé last few times (I always assume mistakenly when I order thé knots will automatically be bleached).. I am an H1b..even with bleached knots H1b is still détectable in thé front...Im thinking of getting a very blond piece and dying it dark brown to be able to wear thé hair up for once. Guys with super blond hair have it easier to wear it up. I think because bleached knots make the hair fall out quicker.

Also I'd add that hair salons try and push their products, as if they are the only ones suitable for a hair system. Experience has taught me this is not always the case and that there are equal if not better products on the open market, available in general stores and at a fraction of the cost. Hair salons never tell you about deep conditioning the system to prolong the life of it which is something I do to gain an extra few weeks out of the unit.

Sad you personally have really experienced some decietful salons! I am sorry as a hair client you had to endure this and be lied to so much. That must have made your hair journey more difficult. It is ashamed ever so often some of the good ones never get credit for trying to be vigilant and truthfully. Example......like the young lady you have in Florida she really seems like she would be incredible. Consider I know where she got her start I applaud her. But just like her there are a few of us that are knowledging not screwing people. Ashame.................

Salons are just grifters who exploit customers insecurities. The only one in my area charges members $1200 A MONTH which is insane

Ok here we go- I wish this very realistic and informative video’s title was “Realistic expectations “ not lies stylists tell you. As a stylist and business owner I can tell you I never guarantee Anything, because everything I do And the client does plays into longevity of Any service in the salon. Stylists are generally the helpers of the world. We love to help people. Please don’t paint us as liars.

This is spot on. I went to a local salon that specializes in hair systems for haircuts and she was cool at first but would always try to sell me her overpriced systems. I used the clip-on things at first when I had enough hair but when I transitioned to tape/glue she wouldn't help me at all! Basically kicked me out of the store cuz I kept asking her how get the tape to stick and the best glues/tape for my system. She was like "you obviously have been watching RU-vid about how to do it so just go watch more videos. I can't help you." I was willing to pay this bitch for the first install. Like I get it, you have a business to run but I'm a DIY guy and you coulda made a little money off me anyway. She was like "if you can't afford it, don't wear it" and "you don't buy parts for a car and tell the mechanic to install those". Saying it was insulting for me to bring in my own stuff for her to use. Lol. Yeah can't afford it from you, I told her. And it's not a car it's a freaking hair system lol. I wanted to cuss her out so bad but I didn't lol. These salons need to get with the times or loose business. And there's nothing wrong with doing it all through them, just not for me. I've always been a DIY guy. Anyways, I eventually figured it out myself from awesome channels like this. Thanks Jake!!

She kinda has a point, she has years of knowledge and expertise that you want imparted for free - she didn't get that knowledge for free, youtube is where you get "free" info. Kodak used to be the giant on the block in film but is now out of business because they refused to see the changing marketplace, these stylists may be making the same mistake but they if they move toward the DIY person they still should be compensated for imparting the knowledge

My local salon just butchered my new 0.03mm poly system by cutting into the hairline, leaving a short stubble from the front row of hairs. I'm so disappointed and seriously considering taking it off in a few days and going back to shaving my head. I've been happily wearing for 6 months and now feel so uncomfortable wearing one.

Josh, I did that to my new system, take a pair of tweezers and pull out the short cut hairs, it will save it some what and make it wareable.

I do have a backup unit that's 4 months old but I only found out about the hairline after they reattached this new one. Won't it irritate my scalp if I take it off too soon?
@joshuamorton1701
@joshuamorton1701 4 года назад
After looking at it again it's not just the front row, there's hairs from about 1cm behind the hairline that have been cut flat. I was able to pluck a few but I think it would take hours to get rid of them all. Thanks for the suggestion though, it really helps having other people who can relate to me.

that really sucks to hear. especially if you're paying a pro, then you shouldnt have bad results. they need to be held accountable.
@mattyd4841

Joshua Morton I have found that taking it off early doesn’t irritate it, it might be a pain in the ass, but working a little at a time I think the hairline can be brought back to somewhat of a normal one given you have enough length from front to back and the patience to pluck..... but I agree with Jake as well..... this is something a noob(like myself) would do..... not a so call professional you spending hard earned money on!

Wait, this guys hair is a hair system?!?! Wow!! It looks so real. Also - if someone happens to figure it out, who gives a FUCK?! You can so easily turn it to your favour by 1. Laughing about it to show your humility/strength of character. 2. Self preservation shows you care :)

I don’t no where you are getting your information or what you are doing but hair systems last over a year easily, not 5 months , your judgement is on your climate of your country and how much you are washing it

Here are my feelings on hair systems. But you need to do what makes YOU happy. I am balding, and definately don't like it! But I don't wear caps, and I don't do the Donald Trump whirly twirly comb-over thing either, I just keep my hair short. The problems I have with wearing a hair system/toupee is the deceit. Example, if a hotty comes up to you and compliments you on your hair, what do you say? If you acknowledge her compliment, you are lying to her. And if this encounter turns into a serious relationship, at what point do you tell her? If I was a women and the guy I was dating was wearing a hair system and he kept it a secret from me for awhile, I would question what else he is hiding from me.

Number 1 - there's no such thing as hair system!! These are wigs, toupees( still a wig!)or hair transplants! " my darling, your hair system looks really pretty today; did you wash it? Oh, no,I've sent it with the shirts, so don't know what they did! You got buttons along the parting, so that's why you look cute as a button!!
