In the third episode of “The Models,” Vogue's four-part docu-series, runway stars get real about eating disorders, size discrimination, and the fashion’s fraught relationship with weight. Through candid conversations and never-before-shared stories, they describe what it’s like to challenge the status quo and why attaining a healthy body image is more important than booking a runway show.

@@A...M. Hi there. I saw you post this on a number of comments. I hope you know I support models, and adore the women in this video. I support any vocation that women choose. @A...M.
@A...M. 4 года назад
@@stevietricks4954 Thank you for understanding, us models are not unhealthy, in fact we are the very opposite. And the fashion industry is over time starting to promote body positivity, but more so there is a legitimate reason to why models in some big labels are this certain stature; You know how you get fitted for clothes and how womens' bodies are all different. In fashion shows and such, you don't have enough time to get fitted and have clothes altered. It's go, go, go. Therefore it makes it a whole lot easier for models to all be a single on rack size because if major fashion labels did show case a range of sizes it would take too much time to get all the models' clothes tailored and fitted multiple times. There are only 6 weeks of preparation for a fashion show and that is including castings. And by the time they would finish the season would be over.

You are incredible and are capable of wonders. Love yourself and cherish yourself. Please have appropriate action for anything that you know is wrong. Anything that seems bad or wrong in your life right now will get better. Please don't do what is wrong, fighting back and harming others will not solve the problem. Please understand that and do the good thing. It will one day come back to you. The people in the world are so much more than what we know about them, not everyone opens up about the beautiful things and acts they have witnessed, not all those amazing doings are acknowledged. Please understand that and know that. If you feel like no one cares about you, know that I care about you. Together, we can be a better community. the idea of sample size is so outdated to me too. like, yeah when runways was an event that just started off it made sense to have a staple sample size to more easily transport the clothing, but with fashion and runways being a multi billion dollar industry they absolutely can afford to alter sample sizes or have more size diverse runways. and the reality is the primary consumers buying these luxury or couture clothing arent stick thin. they come in various sizes so idk why it would be such a big deal to have models that actually represent the sizes of the consumer base.

Gemma Ward's segment is the part that broke me, tbh. I'm a guy, I've had my own body insecurity issues, whatever. But to see Gemma's situation unfold at the age that I did was just absolutely heartbreaking. She was going through so much, and to get shamed about her body in the midst of it felt so heartbreaking to watch. Women never get the luxury of being mediocre. The luxury of being average. We keep talking about how "oh, it's so awesome, women who are curvy are having their moment" but never the conversation of women being more than their bodies. Women are beyond their bodies. Gemma was more than her physique. She was a human being, and it's so heartbreaking to know that she was at her most vulnerable when the story about her broke out.

Just keep in mind that there are healthy women who, as you said, are """stick thin"""... Be careful using those words, they are just as hurtful as the ones ignorant people use to describe "plus-size" women. A lot of women are genetically more thin (thin-thin btw, or in your words ""stick thin""; not the "perfect ideal skinny" people seem to love), just like a lot of women are genetically more "fat". People should be very careful, because when trying to fix a problem they may create another one. More body diversity for sure needed, but don't exclude """stick thin""" healthy women just because they don't fit with your ideals of beauty... that's exactly the problem you're trying to fix that "plus-size" women have... but, maybe without being aware of it, you're contributing to the same problem the other way around... Thin women are seen as unattractive cuz they're not within the "ideal body type", and your comment proves it...

america soto I go through the exact same thing... what people don’t understand is how bad it makes us feel. People wrongly make comments about us exercising, when doctors tell us we have to do it in order go gain weight/muscle. I don’t like wearing dresses and skirts (even though I like them) because of what people say and think about my body. It’s awful... And sometimes it feels like body positivity is a one way thing, because I see a lot of people praising it and then talking badly about our body type... because “we’re unattractive”, “we don’t have any curves”, “all they see is bones”, etc etc... THERE IS NO PERFECT BODY, BE HAPPY WITH WHATEVER SIZE YOU WEAR. ITS CLOTHES, CLOTHES DON’T DETERMINE HOW GOOD OF A PERSON YOU ARE. BEAUTY IS SO MUCH MORE THAN SKIN DEEP, BEAUTY IS YOUR SOUL, YOUR ESSENCE.

I coveted Gemma’s Teen Vogue issue! For me it wasn’t about her weight-I just loved her energy. It breaks my heart to see her cry because she was such a bright light for me!

I have never got a job before cuz im a student yet being a model, wearing luxurious clothes and walking fiercely on runway have always been my DREAM. Yet, watching this makes me think again abt it. I can feel the hurt and pressures they had. I also appreciate my mom and all people can survive in the competitive job market also.

As a teen I absolutely adored Gemma Ward. I had a folder with her photos. For me, her videos and appearance, she seemed like an angel. When the whole thing about her being fat came out, I couldn't believe it. For me she was this angel looking alien and who were those people who had the courage to body shame this angel? Gemma love you! You still have this innocence about you and truly are as beautiful as always

I am pretty much the same age as Gemma Ward. Growing up, she's been one of my favourite models and I'd always look up to her for being so beautiful and successful. It was such a revelation to see her talking in this series. Thank you, Vogue and Gemma for the stories.

She walked the Chanel spring 2008 show in a swimsuit looking like a healthy girl, but standing next to these younger and thinner girls, the press had a field day. She was going through a lot at that time in her life tho.

I remember this too. Ali Michaels and Gemma Ward were all over Teen Vogue back in the day as an "it" girl - then suddenly, one day. *poof* gone. I recall being a huge fan of them back in high school. Ali Michaels was known for her thick brows and Gemma for her "alien" beauty and being confused when i could no longer see them in subsequent issues.

usually models have to be extremely skinny which takes a lot of unnecessary pain and starving but plus size models are different, they were accepted as a model for being who they already are and staying healthy. so of course they're happier.

I remember watching a documentary with Gemma Ward before she went big and got casted. It was this whole casting audition for the public in Australia where Gemma and her friends in school had joined because her friends really wanted her to make it despite Gemma herself not really being sure. Everyone was so young and bright-eyed and they were just having fun cheering her on. No one was truly taking it seriously, but her friends were so sure that she got what it takes. I remember that she didn't even win the thing, but shortly got casted and made it in the industry.

Vogue puts this out so the company can, in a sense, wash their hands. The company knows pressure is building because the masses are waking up and becoming restless. It’s pretty much - damage control. The business is built to protect and strengthen the establishment. These videos, although cathartic, are used as bread-crumbing. Just my opinion.
