OK, you've convinced me. I'm definitely going to look into doing a repositioning cruise sometime in the near future. Thank you for debunking the myths and sharing how wonderful, and reasonably priced, a cruise like this can be. Look forward to your Australia videos. My plan is to be in Sydney for the 2025 New Year, so it will be nice to see how you bring in 2024 there!

We are on a repositioning cruise now. And we love our sea days (which we think of as editing days!) we did the South Pacific last year and really loved the enrichment programs they brought on board when we had lots of sea days.

I love the reposition cruise because most of the passengers are matures or retirees, they are quieter, nicer , less noise than the young passengers. And things seems more relax on the reposition cruise.

Another great video! Thanks! We travel so similar to you it's amazing! Currently, we are on an 80 day sit in Winchester, UK. We arrived in Europe via a repositioning cruise in May and are now looking for one like you are taking to Australia. One odd question... like you, we pack very light with 2 bags (carry on and personal item/small backpack) and I noticed at the 3:55 mark there's a lovely picture of the two of you dressed for a formal night with Chris in a fancy dress and Steve in a jacket and tie. I've seen your packing video and can't imagine where there would be room for them. How are you carrying those? Have you found an actual Mary Poppins bag?!
@EatWalkLearn
@EatWalkLearn 9 месяцев назад
Haha! Mary Poppins! That was a pic from one of our first repos. Twice now we've scouted goodwill stores the week prior a cruise and Steve has purchased a sports jacket, worn it, and donated it. I think his total investment in dinnerware has been $20. He got one jacket at a Mexican tinga for $1! Chris (me) does carry a casual dress with her regularly which she gussies up for formal nights. Our shoes (Keens/Tevas) get inappropriately worn. We don't do this for every cruise, but Steve does try to dress up as much as his current wardrobe will allow for formal nights. Otherwise, we skip them and go to the buffet. worn...

Great topic, we've got a similar video coming soon, because repositioning cruises are the best way to cruise! It is easy (and tempting) to upgrade everything, but with a little self control cruising can offer a lot of perks over just flying someplace.

Thank you. When we have the time, we'll pop into a Goodwill before a cruise and grab a sports coat and dress, then we'll donate it at the end. There's no room in the bag for Steve's jacket; Chris carries a casual dress with her.

The vast majority of cruises we take are repositioning cruises. We like the price, the longer cruises and the fact that we see some ports that ships usually do not go to.

If you look at the menus on Vacationstogo, there's an option for Repositioning. Also you can search by trans Atlantic or trans Pacific. But if you're new to cruising a long repositioning cruise may not be the place to start.

Hi, I just discovered your video in my search for repositioning cruises. How long does it take to get off the ship with a ton of other people, especially when the port stay is maybe 8 hrs? Does that cut into your port time significantly? Thanks.
@EatWalkLearn
@EatWalkLearn 5 месяцев назад
Sometimes the ships are near capacity, but we rarely have to wait getting on or off at ports.

I've done one repositioning cruise, and liked it, but I would be reluctant to spend that much time in an inside cabin. I knew a passenger who came down with covid on the ship (Celebrity Line) and was confined to her cabin for five days. That would be touch in inside cabin
@EatWalkLearn
@EatWalkLearn 9 месяцев назад
Yes, there are certainly pros and cons to inside cabins.
@welltravelledlife
@welltravelledlife 8 месяцев назад
While covid restrictions were pretty tight for the first year that ships were back and operational, they are no longer requiring masks, tests, or quarantining sick passengers. And when they were quarantining them, they were blocking off entire sections of the ship with balcony rooms, so the sick guests were moved from their rooms to the balcony rooms. (Some thought of it as a free upgrade!)

TBH, I have never heard some of these myths but HAVE taken 54 cruises, including 3 “crossings” (not cruises as Queen Mary 2 enthusiasts remind us ad nauseam) across the Atlantic, 4 repositioning cruises across the Atlantic (Carnival Celebration, Norwegian Epic, Pacific Princess and Oceania Sirena and 2 trans-Pacific repositioning cruises on the Queen Victoria and another Princess cruise). There are several truths about repositioning cruises as well-e.g. there are few children on them, it tends to be an older, more travelled crowd NS the joy of changing time zones gradually cannot be overestimated. They tend to be in shoulder seasons, making for milder weather as well. See you soon to discuss all things nomadic!
