I think I read somewhere that the GameCube controller compatibility on Switch was merely because they were adding a bunch of protocols for third party controllers and making the Wii U adapter work along with that was kind of a happy accident.
It came out the year I was born and I grew up playing it and the n64 which both I just love to pick up and play all the time happy b day GameCube and also my favorite game for the n64 Zelda oot is now 20 so happy b day to that masterpiece
Fun fact: Wii U also has the ability to play Gamecube games, but not with the discs. With the Gamecube iso files. In order to do that youll need to softmod your Wii U and use the Nintendont app.
I DO remember Gamecube's start. There seemed to be a lot of kiddie games for it. Many people remember it as "Disney Cube." However, in the years that followed, Nintendo did release excellent games that made it remarkable. What made it even better was the Game Boy Player that attached on the bottom, allowing all Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and even Game Boy Advance games playable on the big screen! Thanks Nintendo!
I'm 13 I Had a Wii, Nintendo 64, DS and 3DS when i was a child. I Bought A Gamecube today and i hate myself for never playing it before hand i love the crap out of it.

If you press z 5 times and hold B on start up, you open a hidden snes emulator with 4 games on it. Super mario world Yoshi island Super bomber man Pilot wings I was amazed when I found this out.

I got the black model for Christmas right after launch + three games, Luigi's Mansion, Smash Bros. Melee and NHL Hitz 2002, and a standard memory card… Overtime, my game library grew to 30+ Games, four controllers (Black, purple, orange and grey Wavebird), The black 351 block memory card and Game Boy Player attachment/accessory--what a great system.

When people say "wireless controllers", they mean Radio Frequency based controllers. It's the closest thing to today's bluetooth controllers, but this was back in 2001 when wired controllers were the main way to play. Prior to the wavebird, "wireless controllers" used primitive infrared technology, which was nowhere near as reliable, and could easily by someone walking between you and the receiver. I've seen IR controllers all the way back to the NES. It's nothing new. So, even the genesis wasn't the first if you want to get literal.
Robloxer 3.0 game pad isn't good for long gameplays like for example a speedrunner wouldn't want to use the game pad but instead maybe the pro controller I personally like the gamecube controller and snes controller the best becuase unlike the game pad they fit perfectly and comfortably in your hands for a long time

Speaking of gamecube controller compatibility, a while ago I learned that that Dance Dance Revolution games on the Wii can be played with the GNC controller. You use the analog stick and c stick to hit the directions. A cool tidbit for rhythm game fans who don't want to put in the labor or who has siblings who buy you to play with them (I wish I knew this trick when I got the game back then) Oh and the game can't tell the sticks apart so hit whatever one in whatever direction. You will need both for the jump notes.
Love the GameCube. The controller is so comfortable and there are many games that were only released for that system that are absolutely enjoyable. Sure, some of the games have been re-released on future consoles (I.e. Windwaker); but there are still some games you can’t get anywhere else (I.e. the original Luigi’s Mansion & Super Mario Sunshine). However, you are right, it’s way better to just get the first generation Wii Console to play GameCube games because you get 2 consoles instead of one! Wii’s are pretty cheap now too!
Here's a nifty fact about the Gamecube. The DOL-001 model has a digital out port on the back. Nintendo never used it for anything except a component cable (component is analog btw - this means the cable itself had a digital-analog converter in it, which made it ungodly expensive). It was only released in Japan, and Nintendo dropped the port from the DOL-101 model. At the time the port didn't seem to make much sense. But starting in 2017, people realized that since it's a digital port already, it's trivial to convert to HDMI. Thus, today you can get custom made HDMI adapters for the system. I have mine hooked up to my Sony receiver which only supports HDMI and DisplayPort, and it works great. It supports HDMI audio and all the goodies like progressive scan. The next system (Wii) had no digital outputs at all, so it's impossible to hook up to a modern receiver without an external converter box (which comes with the caveats of analog noise).
This console is so goddamn amazing! I'm thirteen and got it when I was 9 and would sit for hours in the basement with my cousin and play Pokemon Colosseum taking turns battling computers and eating snacks.
The game cube was awesome! I asked for one on Christmas when I was 7 in 2007 and my parents put it in a shoe box and I was sad until I opened it because what 7 year old wants shoes for Christmas, but it's a console of my childhood
You comepletely blown me away. I honestly think that a PS3 Layout was the best for buttons but we can kinda thank Nintendo. But... I would give a hug to somebody I like right now i'm that blown away.
Mr.Hiroshi was an still is the greatest of all time for blessing my childhood and now my little brothers' GameCube and Nintendo bonding experience together.
