Thank you so VERY VERY MUCH for using a contrasting thread color. It makes it so much more obvious what you are doing. I wish others would learn to do this and follow it.

I do that on purpose. I think Eleanor Burns used to do that on her show and that’s where I picked up the idea. I think. Don’t hold me to that. Lol

This is just brilliant! Making your corners nice and neat, plus you are still able to square up your edges! And if you have any carpal tunnel from cutting squares, this also would help with that! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and ideas! Shawna

I learned two things from this video. One: I didn't know the cutting board you were using locks into place. I will have to check mine and see if I have that capability. I've had mine for many years, and it may be a newer feature that was added later. Two: I love this technique of making a square in a square block. I could see putting the sewn squares on point and making a really interesting quilt. A scrappy version would a great stash buster also if you have enough bigger pieces of fabric to start with or using a background fabric with stash fabric. My creative mind is overflowing right now!

My heart stopped when you took your iron to your beautiful rotating mat! I ruined my big mat when I tried ironing pieces on my thick wool ironing mat on top of my cutting mat. Some lessons are more expensive than others 😏 cool technique - it gives me lots of ideas. Thanks!

Donna Jordan did this 7 years ago with a Kid's alien themed panel that she cut up and placed all the small panel pieces on larger squares like you did. She didn't center all of them, but kept them more or less squared up. Made a cute quilt. Her video is called "Panel Quilting Made Easy". Thanks for sharing tiye your ideas,

This is a very good idea for someone just learning to quilt, all the points and junctions match so easily. It's the matching of the junctions that is disheartening, when they don't seem to come together no matter how hard you try at the beginning. Fabric moves and stretches and plays little tricks, just because sometimes. So this technique will help a lot. Thanks for sharing this one 💐

Tim..I've seen the sq in a sq before. Love the idea with the center sq slanted. Thanks for sharing. If you used the wonder under or heat & bond i'd only do a small sq of it in the center so the outside edges would be easier to sew thru. You could do it as an I spy. With the center sqs having different animals, flowers or designs.

I had seen this done using a Layer Cake where instructions are to cut some of the 1O" blocks into four 5" blocks for the centers. To make a larger quilt top (and overall easier) I purchased the same fabric combination in a Charm pack. It costs less than buying two Layer Cakes and having to cut out 5" squares.

Don't scrape your rotary sharp edge against anything. It will dull just like a kitchen knife if you use the sharp edge to scrape cut bits. Kitchen knife: always use the back of the knife to scrape bits. Rotary: use hand to move scrap. ))

This looks easy; but, aren't you adding bulk to your quilt top.? The seams are going to be thicker. You have no raw edges on those sewed folds (which is good if the back is going to be open and subject to direct wear). However, it will add to the weight of the quilt, and you could break needles (if it is machine quilted). No. I am not a quilt police officer. I'm just an old woman who has learned many lessons the hard way. I got too hot yesterday trying to mow the grass with a push mower. I do my pressing on an ironing board in another room (to keep from melting my cutting mat or burning my table top). It also keeps my cat from knocking my iron off the ironing board (which can hurt the cat, or melt the flooring, or burn the rug, and kill my iron). Walking to the other room is good for me. When you get to be my age, you had better be walking (so that you can keep waking).

How about using that thingy it’s a straight edge that you put against say the corners to make straight corners along the baseboard to paint the wall so you don’t get it on the baseboards or maybe at the top of the ceiling it’s in the paint section and it’s silver with black handle I think that would be great for that fold over thing although it would get hot but only if you ironed across it for the fold . OK if you can figure out what my rattling about is you know what I’m talking about but it’s a dollar tree find
