Thanks for watching everyone! I think this is going to be my new format for videos so expect them to be longer and filled with more topics. Don't forget there's more lost media on my Twitter - twitter.com/LSuperSonicQ Music by jaxcheese - jaxcheese.bandcamp.com/ Animations by Foolish Connor - ru-vid.com
ONE SEASON???? omg that show was ALWAYS ON when my sister was little and i thought it was so boring, no wonder why!!! it’s because they aired the same episodes over and over
I wouldn’t say that Oswald is unpopular either. Sure, it (along with many other Nick Jr shows) isn’t recognized much nowadays, but at least it was a great show for its time Even lesser known shows can still have a special place in our hearts
To be fair, I would say Oswald is average since I will agree on the fact that it wasn’t the most popular show (well here in the states) when comparing it to other Nick Junior/Noggin shows at the time (nor was it the longest running show at the time compared to Blues Clues, Little Bill, and the Backyardigans) but I wouldn’t say it wasn’t popular at all since to be fair it does have a lot reruns on different channels so people can have a chance to watch it!
It always astounds me that Oswald was part of a core four for Nick Jr (with Dora, Blue, and Little Bill), yet it’s STILL one of the shortest-running shows from the network to this day at only 26 episodes. And it’s a shame too, because it’s one of the best (if not THE best) shows Nick Jr ever aired.
@@wishbonefan Though IIRC it never aired Bebop, there was one PBS station famous for airing anime like Tenchi Muyo and Evangelion among a few others. Ofc this was late at night from my knowledge or generally way past the preschool block, but still PBS did actually air anime before to some capacity.
Huh, for me it was the opposite. I was born way after Playhouse Disney was a thing so I grew up with Disney Jr. Though, I can understand how you feel :)
Don't get me wrong, I love Face, but one of my most vivid nightmares ever was about him conquering the planet and killing anyone who resisted. No I don't know why I had a vivid nightmare about a Nick Jr mascot when I was 4.
Fun fact: one of the characters (Johnny Snowman) in Oswald was voiced by the late Mel Winkler, the guy who did the voices for Aku-Aku from Crash Bandicoot 3 to Crash Twinsanity.
@@Astronomicat117Bruh, The super why pilot has already been found including the bubble guppies pilot too. Even the lost media wiki has marked these two pilots found.
I get the uncanny feeling that I saw the Cowboy Bebop-theme PBS bumper back in the day. If I remember correctly, it was just clips of animation with the theme playing over it, and the bumpers were quite short.
@@wishbonefan Bumper material, similar to the kind shown in that segment of this video. PBS Go!'s mascot and/or his sister doing random fun things. Completely disconnected from the music, it seemed like it was used as a generic jazzy track rather than PBS being aware of it's significance to Cowboy Bebop. Not really any other sound effects or audio, if I recall correctly. Just the characters silently doing fun, eye-catching activities that a kid would be able to appreciate while the track plays over it. I'd say most times the bumper played, it lasted no more than 10 seconds.
1. I like this format for lost media videos because it gives more topic variety and incentive to watch compared to something unfamiliar standalone. That being said, I'll watch either way. 2. I *really* like lost dubs in terms of finding them because while they arent technically too notable, listening to different performances of a show and how they change across countries is actually really interesting, especially when songs are involved. Personally, when looking for lost dubs, I really like the idea of "completing the series so that audiences outside of mainstream countries can re-experience it for the first time in years." There is much more to why I like lost dubs but that is the best way I can articulate my opinions.
I recognized the name, but couldn’t put my finger on it until I saw the pig car thing 😭😭 Edit: I also just remembered this, but whenever I used to watch that show I always used to think some of the car animals looked delicious. Like they just looked… edible. And I bet they would taste great still tbh
oswald only had one season!!?!?! damn dude, i remember that show so vividly? edit: wait a sec, im from japan and i 100% have at least one of those oswald dvds somewhere... now i have to go ask my entire family about it lmao
There's a very small crawl space in my old bedroom with a bunch of stuff from my childhood that can't reach. I'll take a look in there for lost VHS tapes. Who knows, maybe there's something there. Update: My cousin crawled in and grabbed everything. No VHS tapes. For those interested contents included: A teddy bear, butterfly clips, socks, a pair of sandals, a pair of tap shoes, jean shorts, an arts and crafts kit, a stained glass kit for kids, two school rulers, a piano book, and a mask from the movie Scream.
@@CharacterMister Yeah we tried that and got a few stuff out. One of my old piano books, a creepy old mask from the early 2000's, Crayons with their 2000's logos, ect. There's a box in the way back and toys in the way back too. We're gonna see if my cousin is willing to go in there and get that stuff
@@stargirlexe same lol. I remember watching it around 2011, but after that I just have fandom pictures of animal car things appearing in my mind and I was like what is this. Now I find out it was an actual show again
@@HarmonyOmega I had the same issue. I had an old VHS recording of Coyote Tales, but couldn't upload it in good quality since I couldn't afford a very good video card.
Children Show pilot creators in the late 90s: Hey how about borderline nightmare fuel for children. Make all the colors dark and mute and give all the characters the worst deadeye stares. Oh, and lets get someone that's never 3d animated before.
Tbh I think there was a real reason for the strange, borderline-creepy, appearance of a children's show's pilot. As stated, the pilot was used as a test to see an audience's liking to a concept, so there may not have been a lot of money or time to develop something, which dampens the quality of these pilot episode.
Face was terrifying to me, took up a solid 95% of my nightmares as a kid. Something about the vacant eyes and uneasy smile put them in the uncanny valley for 5 y/o me-
Literally same bro, used to freak me right out. We didn’t have Nick Jr on our Tv so I only ever saw it at my friends or cousins. Would always run out the room, but I could still hear it from the hallway. Had seriously horrible nightmares for years, such a simple design made it impossible to forget, was literally burned into my young mind. Got a little chill seeing it in the thumbnail actually, dark blue just like the very first time I saw it. Was only 3 years old man, fucker took over the tv and was staring straight at me, talking right at me. Jarring.
I remember being one of the people they tested for Jungle Junction's 2008 pilot. I don't remember much about it unfortunately. I dont have anything to prove this besides my own faulty memory. At the time I had no idea I was watching what would become Jungle Junction, a show I admittedly never watched much of lol, so the memory just sort of faded for me.
I live near the area where the bumpers used for PBS Kids are from the early 2000. So maybe I can watch a few days worth of PBS kids and record every bumper lol
@GG Videos sometimes I don't have cable so I had to set up the ol' antenna to watch some tv. But one time I got verizon I think and it came with the channel. My favorite shows were Jacob two two and Jane and the Dragon, but I watched a lot that I remember fondly today...rip qubo
There was an instance where they actually used John William's Superman main theme on a Super Why! promo which idk if PBS had licensing permission to do or how they got away with it but it maybe small evidence of instances that the station used copyrighted music like Cowboy Bebop on their PBS kids promo.
“Charlie” could also have been made as Caillou is a French word(meaning “Pebble” or “Little Rock”), and they wanted to call him Charlie instead for the English version. I could be very wrong though.
I mean, given how the dub was supposedly made in 2010 (way after the series started airing in the US), I think the unlicensed dub theory is more likely.
That PBS Kids Cowboy Bebop bumper might be the most interesting piece of lost media I've ever seen. I grew up primarily on PBS Kids and Veggietales in the 2000s (I grew up without cable), and I can 100% imagine them using Tank for one of the bumpers. That said, I didn't watch Cowboy Bebop until high school (early to mid-2010s), so I can't confirm or deny anything.
My mom and I loved Oswald when I was little (especially the dog, Weenie) I had no idea it was that unpopular and didn't air for long. It was a very wholesome show and the characters were so cute.
Does anybody remember a Zula Patrol episode with the dialogue: "Is your moustache talking?" "What moustache?" "Is your beard taking notes?" "What beard?"
Unfortunately as a homeschooled kid with a working parent I'm familiar with almost every show/media mentioned in this video, even was a big fan of a good chunk of them lol
Looking back, when I was a kid, the thing I would have wanted to do is stay home and watch TV all day. I hated my public school and no one would go outside to play in my neighborhood. Plus there was so much better content on TV in general. I watched Nick, Disney, Cartoon Network, Noggin, Qubo, Animal Planet, PBS among others. Nowadays, there is very little good content on TV. Like I rarely turn the TV on except sometimes to watch the News.
I just remember how warm and cozy everything looked in children’s television. It was so inviting and you felt that you could step into these shows and they didn’t condescend to kids. Of course, now everything is internet based and cold looking. But, I suppose children’s television has to change with the time, as they have to evolve in this current world just like when we were children. I hope there are parents showing their old childhood videos of shows.
The lost Face promos reminds me of that time I remember watching some Face parody on RU-vid that was made in MS Paint when Face started smoking to the viewers. The video probably no longer exists but it’s one of those videos I still remember to this day.
Oh I know of lost media like the PBS Bumper! It is Jontron appearing in Latin American 'Boomerang'! It was clip of Jontron dubbed to latin american Spanish, and it was the most odd thing ever. Me and my little sister remember it vividly, with Jontron 'reacting' to commercial bumpers with scenes of his videos where he wore black shirts (probably the Night shade video). This piece of lost media bumper has been eluding me so much, and I have no idea who I can talk with to start a search! I could swear someone else would talk about it, but no one ever did.
Isn't really related to lost media, but I remember when I was younger, Face scared the absolute daylights out of me. I have many VHS tapes of Blues Clues, Dora, Oswald, etc. that I would watch 27/7 when I was younger. Every time Face would appear, I would run out of the room screaming. Overtime I came to appreciate him more and more, but he still makes me uneasy sometimes lol.
y'know i really wasn't all that creeped out whenever i saw Face. idk why, something about him was oddly comforting.. i also remember playing this game with him in it that had something to do with the alphabet. i liked Face, not sure why. can kinda see why he'd creep people out, though.
i played the face alphabet game too! the only thing that scared me was the "g is for: green" part because the noise it played made me incredibly uncomfortable, so i always skipped over g. that's the only time face ever scared me. also hello fellow bi/genderfluid person :)
I don't know about the Caillou "Charlie" dub. It seems like some weird mandela effect the original poster had (maybe from them miss-remembering what Caillou's name was). It could actually exist, as there have been unlicensed dubs made of kid cartoons, including Caillou. Also, afew dubs of the show have actually changed Caillou's name (for example, the European Portuguese dub changed Caillou's name to "Ruca"). but for now, I'm not sure. But yeah, for more lost media related to Caillou I know, there's the British dub that aired on Cartoonito. Afew clips of the dub exist out there, but other than that it's mostly lost. There's also interestingly, a lost Turkish Caillou PC game called "Caillou Çiftlikte" ("Caillou Farm" in English). There are commercials for the game out there that have bits of gameplay. There's also a page from someone who worked on the game that shows assets from the game (including Caillou's model). Other than that, I can't find the game anywhere online. So yeah, good video mate.
Wasn't Caillou a cartoon from Quebec? If so, Caillou sounds a lot like a french name, so i'm thinking that a local station in Canada made a dub for the english - speaking majority and it somehow ended up in the USA. That's just a theory, though.
theres a pinky dinky doo japan dub thats lost, as of so far, no clips or full episodes are found of it, it aired on cartoon network japan's [also lost] kids block, ピぽらペポら,
Super why,Jungle Junction, and even Caillou were my favorite childhood shows. I know a lot of people remember Caillou for obvious reasons. But I never saw anyone talking about Super why or Jungle Junction so thank you! 😁
I grew up with the UK version of Blue's Clues and didn't know it was actually a different version of the show. I watched it all the time so it's sad to hear some are lost.
The Tank PBS Kids bumper is one of my most wanted pieces of lost media for how weird the concept is and how it actually existed online for one point in time and the only reason its lost is because a now private Twitter account is the only person who uploaded it online. A lot of factors that come together.
I agree, I got curious right after seeing this video so I just did the only thing that came to mind, to just search it up on yt. If I'm not mistaken, I think I found it on a channel called Yhh Jhj.
Who knew the cartoon my sister sometimes watched on French Disney Junior had such a complicated lost media history? Before this video, I hadn't even *heard* of Jungle Junction (or whatever its French name was) in years!
The different hosts on Blues Clues remind me of how on Sesame Street, they don't dub over Big Birds lines, but rather they've done this lore thing where the different foreign versions of Sesame Street have characters that are canonical cousins to Big Bird.
i like barely do i remembered it's name and that's it i was so young I'm surprised i even remembered it's name, "junction" is a word i would not understand for a long while
I vaguely remember Blue’s Prints. I never saw it with the control group they showed it to but as a small child, I somehow saw scenes where Steve had that reddish shirt. I was 4 when Blue’s Clues first aired.
This was an awesome video! I just wanted to amend something you said in the vid. The Uk adaptation of Blue’s Clues is actually mostly found with only a few episodes still missing, there are more missing episodes of the Portuguese adaptation and especially the Korean adaptation seeing as only 5 episodes have been found. Just wanted to let you know, a fantastic vid overall tho!
The Cowboy Bebop music reminds me of something similar I saw. There was a commercial for a documentary about hockey in the Czech Republic in either the 60s, 70s and/or 80s that used the Neon Genesis Evangelion theme. It was strange because the music was playing over footage of the Czech people rioting and I only know this because one of the people with me was a fan of the anime and pointed it out. I forget what channel it was on, but I saw it late at night in Washington DC in early June of 2018.
...there's this adult game called Paraphore which has a character called Minty, who appears as a simple cartoon face surrounded by a solid color void. They talk to you and sort of lead the main plot along inbetween you exploring the world. I've ALWAYS had this weird feeling that they were familiar for some reason, but couldn't put my finger on why. That was until I saw Face for the first time in 25 years and it all came back to me.
I remember being on that Charlie version of Caillou forum. I still don't know if that exists. As a Dragon Ball fan, it could be a Harmony Gold case? They could have changed the names and showed it on local stations and had it available for streaming in that area. Also, seeing Jungle Junction and Oswald: Childhood memories unlocked lol
That thumbnail reminded me of how terrified I used to be of “Face” back in the day. I grew up on VHS tapes from the 90’s despite being a mid 2000’s kid. It still unsettles me. I hope any piece of lost media relating to that eldritch horror is gone forever. I want every bumper he’s ever appeared in to stay lost
@SpaceBlox well hey when you’re a little kid a lot of harmless things can scare you. I think it’s just that I was so scared of it as a kid that I can’t really shake the terror he used to give me lol
Believe me, Im currently 22 and I still get a bit startled when I see Face. I used to have repeated nightmares about him as a kid, especially when I would watch Nick Jr in the mornings by myself since my mom would always be tired and sleeping from work. I still try to watch his promos to kinda confront this fear, but its different for everyone.
I forgot he existed. We had several VHS tapes featuring him. Of course they're gone now BC my mom never thought anything had value other than collector's edition items :/
I know exactly what you mean! I used to have recurring nightmares about Face when I was a child. I don't know what it is about it but I'm 25 now and I'm still scared lmao.
Hey man I just want to say for years growing up I watched you can constant lost media content creators and it really has become apart of me. It really gave me constant ideas and a different look on media in general. Will always love the content. If I could I'd find a way to find a preserve these such as the smash cards i love smash. Thank you for the content. - Some teenager that hopes to make a change like you Edit: Playhouse disney was my jam
One thing I actually thought was cool about Jungle Junction was that it didn't just feature American voice actors but also featured British voice actors that I'm really familiar with such as Janet James Keith Wickham and Jimmy Hibbert
For some of the listed Nick Jr. Face promos have that or haven't been found on this one site that you mentioned. Some of them are accurate, while some them may not be true. Take the Face is upside down promo for instance, that one had Face upside down throughout the whole promo, & he announced he was gonna watch "The Muppet Show" while being upside down. I remember seeing that promo in a 1995 Nick Jr. commercial break vid somebody uploaded between 2009 or 2010, but unfortunately I didn't know how to download or archive vids during then as a young kid. But that promo is real, & there are plenty of others that possibly people other than myself might not know about yet. Great video btw.
OMG FACE. Whenever I asked anyone about it they didn't know about its existence! I remember playing a game on nick jrs old website, it was a very basic game. All you did was click a color and face would change their expression to match the color. Thanks for talking about this! Now anyone I telling about face won't think im crazy
@@NoGoodNameHelpPLZ it’s a british show. But it got a dub over here with a new voice cast and some script changes along with some episode titles being changed slightly.
