I'll be honest, as a native Tucsonan, I often take the diverse access to cuisine for granted. Sure every city has its problems, but there's beauty here too. Though I'm sure videos like these aren't targeted at people who already live there, I appreciate your content all the same
I can’t believe you mentioned Seis but didn’t talk about their neighbor La Estrella! Best Mexican bakery I’ve ever tried. Amy’s Donuts is more of a gimmick with those weird toppings. La Estrella has real donuts and other pastries that deserve a shoutout
I know exactly what you mean. I'm from Tucson, living in CO. Amy's Donuts has been in CO long before Tucson got a location, and I remember all the hype about it. La Estrella in S. Tucson is an amazing bakery. I literally brought a box of pan dulce home to CO today.
Oh man... Born and raised in Tucson and the food is what I miss most. Great video and the only other thing I'd add would be the Mexican restaurants on 4th Ave in South Tucson... It's like a mile of no wrong choices. (You got Tucson instead of Tuscon this time! Yay!)
I was raised in Tucson and sure do miss it. Amazing Mexican food. I brought my friend from CO to visit the Old Pueblo for a wedding. Arizona and my family provided the best hospitality, he loved it.
I live in Tucson & I can confidently say that BOCA is my absolute favorite restaurant! Everything on the menu is delicious but i have to say the best thing they offer is the chips & salsa starter dish (i know it sounds crazy but trust me!). It comes with five different unique salsas that are switched daily & made in house as well as fresh chips to dip. I highly highly recommend giving this place a try!
And folks, if you haven’t been to Barrio Bread before, wear comfortable shoes and expect to wait in line. But that’s also where you meet lots of great people. All of Don’s breads are wonderful, and all are sourdough. But don’t expect any pastries; it’s bread and rolls only. And those lines? That just means he has many loyal customers. And we keep returning, week after week. I often have nibbled on a loaf before I get home, and I know others do too. He opens at 9 and stays open until he sells out, and that’s more often than not before noon.
I heard Eegees was going national. They're food hasn't been as good the last like..10 years and they're sandwiches are half the size of what they used to be. If you go national at least make it like it was. Hogie House used to be amazing too but now is the same way. All bread and lettuce, no meat..
Ok so I’m from here and I think I’ve only eaten the sandwiches 3 or 4 times but I get their drinks at least once a week depending on the flavor of the month like right now is watermelon yummy!!!
I'm from Phoenix and get to visit Tucson often. It seems strange to me, but along with the outstanding Mexican food spots, we find great Chinese food there too. Not sure why, but the Chinese food I get in the valley doesn't even come close.

I've been to Tucson several times in my life and another place I remember from back in the 1990's is Pinnacle Peaks . That place was awesome too but I know that there are many others . I think they've been gone for quite a while now . I'd love to visit the city again with my wife . Go to Sabino canyon and Saguaro monument . Beautiful place .
Pinnacle peaks is still there and killing it man I lived in Tucson for 10 years went back 20 years later and it's still the same place Tucson is timeless
Our kids went to college there. We were there a few weeks ago. My favorite place is Beyond Bread. My husband likes Lindys. Frankies and Lolos were favorites back then. Guadalajara Grill is great for large groups. We had 27 in our party once and no problem for them. Great college town.
I'm sorry to inform you that Eeggees is no longer just in Tucson. The owners sold to a huge corporatio and they plan on taking the Tucson icon national. Although they claim the ideals of original eeggees will remain intact.
Eegees actually sold out decades ago. You'd get a chunk of fruit in half of your spoon dips when they first opened. That lasted just a couple years, and since then you are lucky to get fruit in one out of 20 spoon-fulls.
A few more recommendations from a local: Sher-e-Punjab (Indian), sa-ing (Thai), kogi (Korean), Zemam's (Ethiopian) and North Italia (okay, that last one isn't only a Tucson thing but it's really good). All of them are absolutely phenomenal!
one place that is always left off these lists from Tucson is Canyons Crown great English style pub food like the delicious scotch eggs, Guinness pie, pasties, and the best fish and chips in town and a bruised pear to wash it down followed with a sticky toffee pudding for desert. I live clear across town and make the 45 min trip regularly.
el Manantial on the corner of Park Ave and 36th have the BEST Sonoran Hotdogs and the chili they also wrap it in bacon and is stuffed with cheese...nom...nom...nom!!!! they also sell Tortas Tacos and Caramelos. Only Cash is the only downfall but the food is really good and great on the pockets!!!
Though I agree with some of the choices listed, not mentioning "The Little One" (formerly Café Poca Cosa) is downright criminal. Best Mexican food in town, period.
@@racevanandros2916 Café Poca Cosa on Pennington & Scott is, unfortunately, closed. However, The Little One (formerly The Little Poca Cosa) is still open and has sensational food.

@@stockhowj The two were different. Café Poca Cosa was more upscale, changed the menu all the time. Also sensational, but it wasn't your prototypical mom and pop style Mexican restaurant, whereas The Little One sticks to more traditional dishes. Their menu is pretty steady though they do have everyday specials. It's less formal and only opens for breakfast and lunch. Their "Cochinito en Crema de Chipotle" is one of the best dishes you'll find anywhere in the country. The other offerings are not far behind. They are located on the SW corner of Alameda and Stone. Everything on the menu is absolutely legit Mexican food that is absolutely sublime. You should check it out. I eat there as often as I can, and alternate between breakfast and lunch.
Neat. One that I'd like to see is a video on some of the cafes around town. Baja Cafe has got to be my favorite. Another good one is Le Buzz with their amazing scones, pastries, & cookies and even locally roasted coffee. Yeah.... Tucson Cafes are another level.
It changed ownership some years back..I'm 30 and a native Tucsonan and let me tell you, it is NOT what it used to be. It's very generic now, and they're seemingly more focused on expanding out of Tucson than the food quality. However the original owners have a place called Slice & Ice and it's VERY much like good old Eegee's, the way I remember it from my childhood!

Funny story! I lived in Tucson in the mid 70s. Eegees started in a step van!! As they grew, they sold the stepvan. My uncle bought it!! He used to drive me to school( Alice Vail Jr. High) in this step van!! It was white with a huge lemon on the side!! I think I was the most embarrassed kid in Tucson!!! Hahaha!! I miss Eegee's Rootin' tootn' Rootbeer. Moved from Tucson (due to a sucky job market) over 10 years ago. I do miss the food and stores. Not much of anything else though.
I would say La Estrella is the superior bakery in Tucson! They sell traditional Mexican baked goods and tortillas in addition to the typical donuts you would find other places.
Native to Tucson me and my wife eat at all these places. I recommend 12 ave. They have a lot of restaurants and food trucks supposedly best Mexican food in the U. S. which wouldn't be surprising since Mexico is half an hour away. I recommend starting at Rollies

In case you didn't what a mochi donut is -Mochi donuts are a hybrid between cake donuts and chewy mochi, Japanese rice cakes made from glutinous rice, also known as polished sticky rice. Eegee's was a Tucson institution, it was bought out by a corporation in 2018 and has gone down hill ever since. Slice and Ice on Grant Rd. west of I-10 is run by a former Eegee's owner. Very very close to what Eegee's used to be.
Right after I moved to Tucson, I met Don of Barrio Bread (friend of a friend sort of scenario). Super nice guy. Barrio Charro is a great lunch spot that I've gone to multiple times. Seis Kitchen also has a location on River Road & Campbell...just so happened to go there last night for dinner! I haven't been to Amy's Donuts, but right next to it is Monument Camera, which is one of the neatest used camera stores around. Vintage lenses galore!
Spice Garden arguably has some of the best Indian food in Tucson, even though it’s a bit of a drive to Cortaro. Also, Cafe Desta serves delicious Ethiopian food and is centrally located too

Also visit "Poco and Moms Cantina" At Sabina Canyon Rd and Tank Verde Rd. New Mexico Style Mexican food. They are also known for their Green Salsa, Hot, but not rediculas hot, but lots of Flavor.. Also serve American Breakfast and Large Hamburgers..💯😁
Heading to Tucson from Buffalo, NY soon. Can anyone recommend a good New Mexican restaurant in Tucson? Was in Albuquerque in March and their Christmas Style (red & green pepper sauces) New Mexican dishes were amazing!
PSA coming from someone who has lived in Tucson for 15 years: If you are going to get a Sonoran hot dog, don't go to El Guero Canelo's. They get all the publicity from non-locals, but if you ask anyone who lives here, most will tell you they're on just okay. Haven't been in years because he moved his cart to a different side of town, but my favorite was always Sammy El Sinaloense (Not to be confused with just El Sinaloense which has like 5 carts). The good carts toast the bolillo on the griddle with either mayo or butter, and wrap the chili guero's (the yellow pepper's that come with the hot dogs) in bacon and stuff them with cheese. Most carts have better hot dogs than El Guero's or BK's, and are usually run by immigrant families that will probably appreciate your business more than Bk's or El Guero's will. This isn't to throw shade at either of them, because they both started off with carts too, and paved the way for the rest! Just feel like the product at the carts is usually better
Also on a random note, next time you visit you absolutely have to try Baja Cafe for breakfast if you haven't already. Legitimately the best breakfast I've ever had in my life. The strawberry pancakes are one of the best things I've ever eaten, and aren't a simple strawberry pancake like you are used to.
I completely agree with you. Anytime I'm back in Tucson, I look for the best Sonoran hot dog. Right now, for me, the best is Ruiz Los Chipilones on 6th Ave and 22nd St. I've heard of Sammy El Sinaloense, where in Tucson can I find them?
